Unit 1 The flight was late.
Teaching Type: Listening and speaking
Teaching aims: (1) To understand the conversation with regard to
“travel”
(2) To talk about one’s holiday and new term. Important points: (1) To learn some listening skills while listening to the
conversation.
(2) Talk about someone’s holiday.
Important point: Talk about someone’s holiday.
Teaching procedures:
Step I. Warming-up and lead-in
1.Talk about the transport of travelling.
2.Show some travelling pictures of the teacher, have the students
finish the form, and practice the sentence I like …by …because…
in groups.
3.Students talk about their travel.
Step II Listening
Listen to Tony and his father and answer the questions.
1.Pre-listening Have students read through the three questions
which they must pay attention to while they are listening.
(1). What form of transport are they going to take?
(2). What has happened?
(3). What do they have to do?
2 While-listening Play the tape through once while they just listen and focus on the questions.
Play it again for them to note the answers.
3.Post—listening
Check back the answers from the whole class.
Listen again and complete the table.

Step III speaking
Pair work: Ask and say what they did during the holiday.
Make an example for students, have them make the conversation like this, then show it for the whole class.
Step IV Listen and read
1. listening
(1). Pre-listening Have students read through the chart to focus on what information they need to listen for
(2). While-listening Play the tape through once while they just listen and focus on the questions.
Play it again for them to note the answers.
(3).Post—listening
Call back the answers from the whole class
2. Reading
Have the students to read the conversation after the tape, Pause at appropriate points after sense group and have them repeat the phrases. Then read the conversation together.
4.Writing
Have the students complete the chart and chose the best answers according to the conversation.
