As we all know, graduation is exciting to many people, but my graduation day was not.
I remember that weekend two years ago. My parents and many friends came to 36 the celebration. But just
like everyone else in my class, I had watched the 37 turn from bad to worse in my senior year. Almost all of us graduates had degrees, but very uncertain 38 .
The weeks ahead weren’t 39 . I knew my small university town couldn’t offer me any
opportunities, 40 I packed up my car and drove to Southern California to find work. But what I
thought would take a 41 dragged into two, and then four, and 100 job applications later,
I found myself in the exact same 42 as I was before.
You know that feeling when you wake up in 43 ? That feeling became a constant in my life.
Days felt like weeks, weeks like months, and those many months felt like everlasting 44 . And the most annoying part was no matter how much I tried, I just couldn’t seem to make any 45 .
So what did I do to keep my good sense? I decided to 46 . Something about putting words on paper made everything seem a little clearer —a little brighter. Something about writing gave me 47 . And if you want something badly enough, sometimes a little hope is all you 48 ! I put my 49 into a children’s book. Beyond the River was the story of a little fish, who 50 to give up his dream.
And then one day, without any sort of writing degree or contacts in the writing world — just a lot of hard work and determination — I was offered a 51 contract (合同) for my first book! After that, things slowly began to fall into 52 . I was offered a second book deal. Then, a few months later, I got an interview with the Walt Disney Company and was 53 shortly after.
Don’t give up. Even if things look 54 now, don’t give up. If you work hard, things will always get better. Often our dreams lie in waiting just a little further upstream ... all we need is the 55 to push beyond the river.

It is well known that the Japanese people’s love of fish is almost as strong as a bee’s interest in honey. As fish
populations were decreasing, fishing companies were forced to fish further and further away from the shore. Then
they had a big challenge — how to keep the fish fresh for longer. So they decided to keep the fish stored in freezers
on the boats. But the public did not like frozen fish. So again the fishing companies had a new bigger challenge.
What they decided to do was to have fish tanks on their boats. After catching fishes, they would put them in the
tanks and keep them living there until they got back to shore. But in this protected environment, lacking predators (掠食者), the fish stopped moving around. The Japanese public felt these dull fish did not taste fresh, which had an unpleasant effect upon sales. Once again the fishing companies had an even bigger challenge …
Stop for a minute! Before we go any further, I would like to ask “What are your challenges? How do you handle an unexpecte d challenge? ” May I think it this way that you should try to attack your challenges? Conquer them with a Swiss Army knife. Take the most proper and simple tool that you can adopt to deal with your situation.
Now back to our story. How did the Japanese finally figure out the fresh fish problem? Sharks! You might think the same. Sharks were caught and put into the tanks with other fishes. Don’t sharks eat fish? Well, they do eat a few fish, but they did also keep more fish active and alert (警觉的). The fish stay fresh because they are challenged.
Now, try to keep yourself fresh by finding your own shark to offer yourself a challenge in your own business and career.

There is no doubt that the United States has entered a brand new age, because Donald Trump, the country’s 45th president, is very different from any president before him.
Unlike Hillary Clinton, his opponent, and most former US presidents, who entered the election after years of being politicians, Trump, 70, was a New York real estate businessman.
And he was not a presidential candidate who worked hard to keep a perfect public image of a man who was always caring, fair and wise.
Instead, Trump is famous for being bad-tempered, arrogant(傲慢的) and hateful toward those who disagree
with him. He also hates immigrants, both from Latin America and the Middle East, for many problems in the US. This has caused a dangerous division in the country—a country made up of many various races.
But to his supporters, the fact that Trump is not a typical politician is actually one of his advantages. His habit of never hiding his opinions is also considered by many to be a sign that he is not a hypocrite like many politicians are.
“We have seen our country take a downturn in the eyes of the world. We need to go in a different direction, ” Binyomin Weisswasser, 39, a man from Chicago, told the Chicago Tribune. “Trump’s not a politician... I like that he is not always politically correct and speaks his mind. It gives me the feeling that what you see is what you get. You may not like it, but you know what it is.”
But interestingly, many who elected Trump actually followed the “lesser of two evils” principle—one that people use when faced with picking from two unpleasant options—simply because they didn’t think Clinton was a better choice.
“He’s the candidate I disagree less with, ” Jack Stucky, 20, a student at Norwestern University, told the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t think I’d say Donald Trump is going to be the best president ever, but I did think he’d be better than Hillary Clinton.”
It’s true that the US is entering a new age. It’s just not clear yet what kind of age it’s going to be.
62. What’s the difference between Trump an d any president before him?
A.He didn’t try to keep a perfect public image
B.He was a businessman before the presidential election.
C.He gained popularity by his bad reputation.
D.He is not always politically correct and speaks his mind.
63. The underlined words “a hypocrite” is closely related in meaning to _____.
A. a caring person
B. a dishonest person
C. a shy person
D. a selfish person
64. Where can we put the following paragraph?
“But no matter how people feel about him, Trump is going to take office as the US president on Jan 20, 2017.”
A.Between paragraph 3 and paragraph 4.
B.Between paragraph 4 and paragraph 5.
C.Between paragraph 6 and paragraph 7.
D.Between paragraph 8 and paragraph 9.
65.According to the passage, many Americans elected Trump because _____.
A.they expected Trump to lead the US out of its downtown
B.they considered Trump as the best president ever
C.they were convinced that their historic choice was right
D.they thought that Trump was more caring than Hillary Clinton
66. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.It reports on people’s different views on Trump’s victory in the election.
B.It explores the advantages Trump has over Hillary in the election.
C.It predicts what changes Trump will bring to the US.
D.It analyzes the reasons for Trump’s victory in the election.

My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.
She ran a small shop at a flea market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how could she do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, "your mom only has one eye?!" and laughed at me.
I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from this world. So I said to my mom, "Why don't you have the other eye?! If you're only gonna make me a laughingstock!" My mum did not respond. I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, I felt so good to have said what I wanted to say. Maybe it was because my mom hadn't punished me, I didn't think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.
For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty. I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later I got accepted by the Seoul University, I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there.
I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door. It was my mom! And still with her one eye! It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom's eye.
I screamed at her, "Who are you? I don't know you! How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter!" To this, my mom quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address," and she disappeared out of sight.
One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. Lying to my wife that I was going on a business trip, I went back to participate in the reunion. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, which I used to call a house, just for no reason. There I found my mom lying on the cold ground. I did not shed a single tear.
Then a piece of paper in her hand came into my eyes. It was a letter to me.
My son,
I think my life has been long enough now, and I won't visit Seoul anymore. But would it be too much to ask if I wanted you to come to visit me once in a while? I miss you so much. And I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I decided not to go to the school…for you. I'm so sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you.
You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. I was never upset at you for anything you did. During the couple of times that you were angry with me, I thought to myself, it's because he loves me.
My son…oh, my son…
Don't cry for me because of my death. I love you so much.

68. Which of the following can be used to describe the mother in the passage?
A.Outgoing and distant.
B. Determined and stubborn.
C. Generous and loving.
D. Considerate and unselfish
69. In paragraph 4, what does “something” refer to in the underlined sentence?
A.The regret for what “I” had said to the mother.
B.The good feeling to have said what “I” want.

D.The embarrassment caused by the mother’s appearance

D.The mother couldn’t tolerate the writer’s coldness in the end.
第二卷(两部分,共35分)
第四部分:任务型阅读(每空一词,每题1分,共10分)
You can't avoid a conflict at work. If you can avoid a conflict, it means you will win what you want regardless of what the other person wants. Since the potential issue has not been removed, it will simply reappear later. Here are the necessary steps to effectively get rid of conflicts at work.
★Realize that some conflicts are unavoidable at work. On numerous occasions, conflict and disagreement are likely to happen. But when a conflict happens it's not the end of the world. On the contrary, it can be the beginning of an interesting learning process. Conflicts mean that people care enough to disagree strongly. The trick is not to allow the conflict to go on forever.
★Handle conflicts sooner rather than later. Solve a conflict when it starts, as it only gets worse with time going by. Conflicts at work arise not from something that was said, but from something that wasn't said! Everyone's waiting for the other to admit he's wrong and gets more unpleasant after the conflict has lasted a while. It's essential to interrupt the "waiting game" before it gets to that point.
★Ask nicely. If somebody has done something that made you angry, or if you don't understand their viewpoint or actions, simply asking nicely about it can make a world of difference. Never assume that people do what they do to annoy or hurt you. Sometimes there's a good reason why that person does what he or she does, and a potential conflict disappear right there. Do remember to make an inquiry, not an accusation of any sort.
★Appreciate. Praise the other part in the conflict. Tell them why it's worth it to you to solve the conflict. This can be difficult as few people find it easy to praise and appreciate a person they disagree strongly with, but it's a great way to move forward.

One possible version:
According to the survey, some students choose to skip breakfast and have a few extra minutes in bed because they have too much homework and stay up too late. Others are given money to buy food themselves because they parents are too busy with their own work to spare any time to prepare breakfast for them. In addition, some girls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast.
Without having breakfast, many students cannot concentrate in class and do badly in their lessons. What’s worse, some students even suffer from stomachache and their health is worrying.
In fact, breakfast is the most important meal in a day because it provides our body with much energy. People who have a morning meal tend to take in more vitamins and minerals. Having a proper breakfast not only makes us energetic and healthy but also helps us avoid overeating. So, we should start our day with a regular breakfast.(仅供参考)

W: Should we ask Cindy to come along? She saw an evening dress made of silk there last month which she liked very much.
M: She has already bought that evening dress.
W: When?
M: Yesterday. She wore that dress last night, and showed off to everybody at Mr. Miles’ party.
W: Oh! That isn’t like her.
M: Hurry up, will you? We’ll have to go to a gas station first. We’d better be there before lunch.
W: All right, all right. I’m ready now. Let’s go.

W: To start with, tell me about your education, please.
M: All right. I shall graduate from Columbia University of Foreign Studies next year. I major in international trade. W: Are you single or married?
M: I’m still single. I’d rather secure my career before settling down in a family.
W: That’s the kind of man we are looking for. Our promotion work needs much travel. So, do you mind many business trips? There will be six to ten times traveling abroad a month.
M: Six to ten? Oh, that is indeed…
W: OK. So I would say this work is indeed demanding.
M: Er… I think it will be a challenge for me, but I am glad to tak e it.
W: It has been pleasant talking with you. We’ll notify you of our final decision within one week.
M: Thank you, Mrs. Hudson, for your interview with me. I hope to see you again.
W: Goodbye.

M: Hi, everyone! Welcome to my blog. Here is the message I promised you. Last weekend we were taken around London in a bus. It was fantastic. I saw Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the lions in Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. I liked the Tower of London best because it is a thousand years old. They say there are lots of ghosts walking around but I didn’t see any! We also went to see all the famous people made of wax(蜡) at Madame Tussauds(杜莎夫人蜡像馆).That was good fun. Jean Louis took a photograph of me standing next to Queen Elizabeth the Second.
Tomorrow we’re going to Stratford on Avon where Shakespeare was born. And we’re going to see one of his plays. It’s called Hamlet. There are three theaters in Stratford and we are going to see it in the Royal Shakespeare Theater. Our teacher told us the houses in Stratford are about five hundred years old and the countryside is beautiful, so I’ll take lots of photos to show you.。
