When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was
called“Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.
One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up(咬破)one of Dad's shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her
and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.
Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet. She went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she'd let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we'd be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked(吠)or tried to get away. Funny thing is she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.
Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss the days when she was with us.

You're late for a job interview when traffic slows to a crawl. At the supermarket, a customer wheeling a full cart cuts ahead of you in the checkout line. You spend months on a makeit or breakit project, and your lazy colleague lands the promotion. Feel that burn? Before you explode with rage or fly into a fury, take a deep breath and remember this: Anger hurts. Study after study has found that high levels of anger and hostility(故意)are associated with greater risk for heart disease, poor immune(免疫)responses, and even a tendency for obesity(肥胖). Men with high anger scores were three times more likely to develop heart disease than their calmer companions, a Harvard School of Public Health study found. And in women, arguments with husbands raise hormone levels
and lower immunity(免疫力)—a real problem, since lower immune response may increase women's risk of cancer.
It doesn't seem to matter whether you release the anger or hold it in, experts say. The effect on your health are the same.
“Anger_is_anger,”says Redford Williams, M.D,director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke University Medical Center and coauthor of the book Life Skills, “Both are harmful to health.”
The good news is, it is possible to control your anger. “By evaluating it and using various techniques, you can talk yourself out of it,” Williams says,“That's what's nice about us humans: We can always do something or not do something to change our behavior.”
60.From the passage we learn that________.
A.people who easily get angry are more likely to suffer from some diseases than cheerful ones

A.anger is harmful to your health
B.one should release anger for the sake of health
C.one should hold in anger for the sake of health
D.anger is harmful in spite of its different forms of expression 62.“Talk yourself out of it”in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to________.
A.talking to yourself helps you control your feeling
B.talking helps you hold in your anger
C.persuade yourself not to get angry
D.control your anger by talking to yourself
63.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Anger Is Anger.
B.Releasing Anger or Holding It in.
C.Controlling Anger before It Controls You.
D.Anger, a big killer.

When you are little, the whole world feels like a big playground.
I was living in Conyers, Georgia the summer it all happened. I was a second
grader, but my best friend Stephanie was only in the first grade. Both of our parents were at work and most of the time they let us go our own way.
It was a hot afternoon and we decided to have an adventure in Stephanie's basement. As I opened the basement door, before us lay the biggest room, full of amazing things like guns, dolls, and old clothes.
I ran downstairs, and spotted a red steel can. It was paint. I looked beyond it and there lay even more paint in bright colors like purple, orange, blue and green.
“Stephanie, I just found us a project for the day. Get some paintbrushes. We are fixing to paint.”She screamed with excitement as I told her of my secret plans and immediately we got to work. We gathered all the brushes we could find and moved all of our materials to my yard. There on the road in front of my house, we painted big stripes(条纹)of colors across the pavement(人行道). Stripe by stripe, our colors turned into a beautiful rainbow. It was fantastic!
The sun was starting to sink. I saw a car in the distance and jumped up as I recognized the car. It was my mother. I couldn't wait to show her my masterpiece. The car pulled slowly into the driveway and from the look on my mother's face, I could tell that I was in deep trouble.
My mother shut the car door and walked towards me. Her eyes glaring, she shouted, “What in the world were you thinking? I understood when you made castles out of leaves, and climbed the neighbors' trees, but this! Come inside right now!”I stood there glaring back at her for a minute, angry because she had insulted(侮辱)my art.
“Now go clean it up!”Mother and I began cleaning the road. Tears ran down my cheeks as I saw my beautiful rainbow turn into black cement.
Though years have now passed, I still wonder where my rainbow has gone. I wonder if, maybe when I get older, I can find my rainbow and never have to brush it away. I guess we all need sort of rainbow to brighten our lives from time to time and to keep our hopes and dreams colorful.
64.What did the writer want to do when his mother came home?
A.To introduce Stephanie to her.
B.To prevent her from seeing his painting.
C.To put the materials back in the yard.
D.To show his artwork to her.

Millions of people die of hunger in southern Africa every year, but when Zambia was offered thousands of tons of free corn by the US, the government politely said no.
“We don't know whether the food is safe,”said Zam bia's Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Dipak Patel.
His worries are shared by countries around the world that are in_two_minds about America's genetically modified(GM,转基因)crops. Just last week, EU member nations were discussing whether or not to import GM sweet corn from the US.
Ever since people started farming they have tried to crossbreed(杂交)plants to make them stronger or better tasting. At one time, only related plants could be crossed with each other.
But when GM techniques were developed in the 1970s, scientists were able to put a single gene from a living creature into an unrelated creature.
This means they can make crops more productive and resistant(有抵抗力的)to disease by adding genes from other species. They can also create food with special cha racteristics, such as“golden rice” which is enriched with vitamin A. But many people believe GM foods are a health risk.
“If left to me, I would certainly not eat GM foods”, said Scottish scientist Arpad Pusztai. “We are putting new things into food which haven't been eaten before. The effects on the immune system(免疫系统)are not easy to predict.”
At the moment, the official argument is that GM foods,“are not
likely to present risks for human health”. But there are still many questions to be answered as the foods are produced in different ways.
Some experts believe the genetic material added to plants can transfer to humans and give damage to our bodies. Further harm could be caused by the genes from GM plants crossbreeding with naturally produced crops.
68.We learn from the passage that________.
A.people have discovered that GM foods will do harm to human health B.millions of Zambia people die of eating too much GM foods
C.people are still not sure if GM foods will do harm to human health D.genetic material added to plants will damage our bodies sooner or later

The Atlantic Ocean is one of the ocean that separate in the Old World from the New. For centuries it kept the Americans from being discovered by the people of Europe.
Many wrong ideas about the Atlantic made early sailors unwilling to sail far out into it. One idea was that it reached out to“the edge of the world”. Sailors were afraid that they might sail right of the earth. Another idea was that at the equator the ocean would be boiling hot.
The Atlantic Ocean is only half as big as the Pacific, but it is still very large. It is more than 4,000 miles(3,200km)wide.
Two things make the Atlantic Ocean rather unusual. For so large on ocean it has very few islands. Also, it is the world's saltiest ocean.
There is so much water in the Atlantic that it is hard to imagine how much there is. But suppose no more rain fell into it and no more water was brought to it by rivers. It would take the ocean about 4,000 years to dry up. On the average the water is a little more than two
miles(3.2km)keep, but in places it is much deeper. The deepest spot is near Puerto Rico. This“deep”meaures 30,246 feet—almost six
miles(9.6km).
One of the largest mountain ranges of the world rises from the floor of the Atlantic. This mountain range north and south down the middle of the ocean.
The tops of a few of the mountains reach up above the sea and make islands.
Several hundred miles eastward from Florida there is a part of the ocean called the Sargasso Sea. Here the water is quiet, for there is little winds. In the days of sailing vessels the crew were afraid they would be becalmed here. Sometimes they were.
Today the Atlantic is a great highway. It is however, not always a smooth and safe one. Storms sweep across it and pile up great waves. Icebergs float down from the Far North across the paths of ships.
We now have such fast ways of traveling that this big ocean seems to have grown smaller. Columbus sailed for more than two months to across it. A fast modern steam ship can make the trip in less than four days. Airplanes fly from New York to London in only eight hours and from South America to Africa in four!
72.Which world is the Old World?
A.Africa. B.Europe. C.Asia. D.All of the three above.
73.What caused people to be unwilling to explore the Atlantic?
A.There are no ships big enough to get across the Ocean.
B.Sailors were afraid of being lost in the Ocean.
C.The Atlantic Ocean was very unusual because it has few island and saltiest water.
D.Many incorrect ideas made people think the Ocean was full of danger.
74.What is the topic of the fifth paragraph?
A.How deep the water is.
B.How to measure the water in the Atlantic Ocean.
C.How much water the Ocean holds.
D.How rain affects the Ocean water.
75.What does the word“highway”in paragraph 9 imply?
A.High road. B.Broad way. C.Fast road. D.Main water way.
第四部分:写作
第一节任务型阅读 (满分10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。

I used to be the messiest person alive.Over the years, through watching others and by trial and error, I have finally found ways to come up with plans, organize them and follow through with them.
Make an outline of everything you need to have and do to make your plan happen.Make a list of all of the steps that need to be accomplished and think about what needs to be done.
Detail everything thoroughly and read over it so you can start coming up with some mental solutions of how to carry out your plans.
You should ensure that if for some reason way one doesn’t work, you have way two and way three to lean back on.Therefore, different ways are needed at hand. It’s just a matter of being organized.Chances are that there is always more than one way of doing things, and chances are that if one of those ways doesn’t work, one of the other ones will.
Committing yourself to finishing at least part if not all of your plan at once is also necessary. It will show that you not only have initiative to get things rolling, but that you are interested in the results obtained with making the move to get everything done.
If you make a commitment to finish before a specific time, make sure that you carry that out, and be sure to do everything in the way you said you would, within the time-frame you set for yourself.
Don’t try to tackle (处理)more things all at a time. All that does is delay your progress, distract you and make you lose your interest, motivation and energy.
Carrying out an effective plan requires being as organized as possible. You will only achieve this by sticking to the order of the plan and not deviating or trying to do more at a time.
Last but not the least, you should never abandon things mid-project.It will only annoy everyone around you including yourself.Unfinished plans are a waste of time, energy and, in some cases, even money.
So, don’t be afraid of orga nization. The older we get, the more necessary it becomes to have the skills to follow through with confidence and to be able to carry through plans in an organized and manageable way.It pays to be organized, after all.
