Teaching plan of Body Language Speaks for Itself
I.Background information
1.Analysis of the teaching materials
This is the reading part of Unit 19 Body Language Speaks for Itself. In this part, students will read to learn the basic knowledge of body language and its features. Moreover, students will learn how to summarize the main ideas of each paragraphs and how to express with noun clauses.
2.Analysis of students
The teaching objects are Senior 2 students, who have basic language foundations and some reading and communicative skills .They have the direct experiences of using body
language, but they may not pay much attention to it in daily lives. According to their former learning, they have not used noun clauses well.
3.Lesson duration: 30mins

a)Be able to use the following words and phrases: explicit, unconscious, resemble,
transparent, ambiguous, negotiate.
b)Be able to use noun clauses.

a)Develop the students’ reading ability by writing headings for each paragraph.
b)Enable the students to discuss the features and significance of body language.

Develop the students’ cognitive strategies and cooperative learning ability.

Stage 1 Pre-reading activity (5mins)
Step 1 Lead-in (5mins)
Greet with no body language and let students notice the differences of teachers’ manner to lead in the topic.
Talk about some kinds of body language with some pictures.
Discuss the usage of body language. (brainstorming)
Stage 2 While-reading activity (20mins)
Step 1 Fast reading (6mins)
1.Tell students that they should read as fast as possible, just for main ideas.
2.Remind students of focusing on first sentences and last sentences in each paragraph.
3.Ask students to write down the headings of each paragraph.
4.Control the reading time.
5.Discuss headings one by one.
Step 2 Careful reading (14mins)
1.Find out the features of body language and discuss them one by one.
2.Analyze the main words and noun clauses in each paragraph.
Stage 3 Post-reading activity (4mins)
Share what you have learnt.
Group discussion.Is body language important in our communication? Give at least three reasons to support your view.
Stage 4 Assignment (1min)
Write an assay: Is body language important in our communication? Give at least three reasons to support your view. Try to use compound sentences in your essay.
Watch TED on body language.。
