When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard(果园)on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they?” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Later, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project(水利工程)was completed, a policy was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.

This is what our country tries to do now: Helping more students get working spirit. To stress(强调)the importance of education on the hard-working spirit among students of different ages, the government released(发布)a guideline(纲要)recently.
The guideline calls for students to respect work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.
The government has been trying to stress the importance of education on the hard working spirit. But this has been overlooked in recent years. Many students do not value the importance of working hard and are not interested in doing so.
According to a study of nearly 3, 000 students that was done by Evening News, only 22 percent of the students help with everyday housework.
Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says. Schools should provide students with hard working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.
As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do housework. Students should get one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

Think about what you like to wear on the weekend. There’s a good chance that you like to put on a pair of blue jeans. At any moment, about half of the world’s population is wearing jeans. But according to a new study, our love for jeans may be bad for earth. The cloth used to make jeans might be putting some sea animals in danger. Every
sea.
You might wonder: isn’t the cloth made of something natural? How can it become a danger to nature? Well, when making jeans, the cloth is treated with many types of man-made chemicals. Scientists aren’t yet sure how the chemicals in the cloth might harm animals.
In the study, the scientists also washed jeans to see how many bits of the cloth on average(平均)each pair would drop per wash. The answer was worrying: about 50,000. Not all of them make their way into the environment. Wastewater treatment plants hold back 83 to 99 percent of them. This may sound pretty good. However, one percent of 50,000 are still 500 per wash. Now think about the number of jeans around the world and the times each of them gets washed. As a result, a large amount of the cloth still gets into the environment.
Does this mean we shouldn’t wear jeans? Probably not. “We need to buy fewer clothes and only wash them when we truly need to do it,” says Sam Athey, one of the scientists. “You don’t need to wash your jeans after having worn them only a few times.”
61.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to?

Do you ever find yourself standing in front of rubbish bins, not sure whether the piece of waste in your hand is recyclable or not? To solve this problem, four Hong Kong high school students have invented a smart rubbish bin that uses AI to sort the waste. 66
Connected to a computer, the bin uses a camera to tell the kind of the waste it receives and sorts it into plastic,
paper, glass, or other kinds. 67 “To train the AI, we had to take many photos from different angles(角度)so it has a better rate of accuracy,” said one of the students who built the AI system.
The idea of the smart bin was born two years ago, when the students were in Grade Ten. 68 They left behind a lot of rubbish and caused more pollution.
“All the bins were full and there was even rubbish on the mountain,” the students recalled. “Every weekend, we had to join the villagers in picking up the waste.”
69 Although school ended at 2 p. m., the team would continue to work on their invention until 6 or 7 p. m. at school. Even when their school was closed last year, they would still meet and work together online.
“Our bin is now in its third generation. 70 Then it will be easier than ever for people to recycle and protect our environment,” the students said.
A.The students named the bin Waste Collection Point.
B.Before graduation(毕业),we hope it can be widely used in the city.
C.At that time, people from the city crowded into their village because of the COVID-19.
D.The students decided to develop a special recycling bin that would encourage people to protect the environment.

The world needs love and many people need our help. Several years ago, my teachers asked me to take part in a 81 /'prəʊgraem/ that helps those who are disabled. Each week, I spent an hour in the classroom helping children with schoolwork, art projects, games and other 82 (activity), including eating. My mother is 83 teacher, so I am used to helping children; however, I found that working with children with special needs would change my life forever.
At first, I thought it would be nervous to be with the children who are so different, 84 gradually (逐渐地)I found there’s something special about these students. So there was no need to worry about it. Each Thursday I was welcomed by the smiling faces of Joe, Missy and Thomas. Joe, a 85 /def/ girl, always welcomed me with a big smile. Missy was born with a kind of illness and it makes her 86 (real)small for her age. Thomas has to sit on the wheelchair. He communicates by using simple words 87 yes or no. In a normal classroom, it is common to hear a teacher stop a child from tapping (轻敲)his pencil, 88 (speak)loudly,or making unnecessary noises. However, here, shouts, cries, and other noises are 89 /ɪnˈkʌrɪdʒd/. They’re signs of excitement and different ways of communicating.
Working with children with special needs has changed my life. It has made me notice others’ needs. One of my teachers believes that we should be part of something 90 (big)than ourselves. I never knew how true this was until I worked with these children. I believe everyone should set out and do something that can make a difference.
