2.In a trial, a judge must decide which eyewitnesses to believe and which not to believe.
在审判中,法官必须断定哪些证人可以相信,哪些证人不能相信。

解析:该句为“疑问词+不定式”结构,在句中作宾语。

whether,what,which,whom,who,where,when,how等加不定式构成的结构在句中起名词作用,可以作主语、表语和宾语。

e.g.: To be honest, I’m at a loss what to do next.
诚实地说,下一步做什么我不知所措。

Seeing such a crowd of audience below the stage,he was too nervous to know what to do.
看到舞台下有那么多的观众,他紧张得不知道说什么。

3.Nor do I think they should give it to any government.
我也认为他们不应该把它交给任何政府。

解析: “nor/neither+系(助)动词+主语”,表示前句中的否定情况,也适用于另一人或物。

High schools should focus on not only students’ study but also their moral education to make them become all-round persons.
4.There’s as much competition among countries to host the Olympics as to win Olympic medals.
国与国之间争取奥运会承办权的竞争,就跟争夺奥运奖牌一样激烈。

解析:as...as...“和……一样……”,为同级比较。

e.g.: It’s generally believed that teaching is as much an art as it is a science.
人们普遍认为教学既是一门科学,也是一门艺术。

这很重要,因为你说英语越多,你的英语水平就会越高。

解析:“the+比较级(……),the+比较级(……)”意为“越……就越……”。

解析:as引导时间状语从句,意为“随着”。

e.g.: With time going by, I gradually adapted myself to the school life.

随着互联网的普及,我们和朋友面对面的交流变少了。

解析:so/such...that...引导结果状语从句,意为“如此……以至于”。

解析:be of+adj.+n.=be+adj.。

E.g.: It goes without saying that modern technology brings us convenience and comfort in life.

解析:as引导方式状语从句,意为“按照……,像……那样”。

2.It is a pity that in the story nobody helped the dodo.
解析:It is a pity that...遗憾的是……
e.g.: It is a pity that you have missed such a good chance to go abroad.
真遗憾你错过了这次出国留学的好机会。

3.This is the only home of the red Colobus monkey but there are very few left.
解析:There be (no)...left to do sth./for sth./for doing sth.为做某事/为某事留下/没留下。

left作后置定语,修饰前面的名词或代词。

E.g.: There was nothing left for those who came late.
4.They learned this from the way the bones were joined together.
解析:句中way表示“方式;方法”,其后接in which或that引导的定语从句,在从句中作状语,此时也可以用连接词即关系代词that/in which或省略掉。

e.g.: I think you hurt his pride by laughing at the way he speaks English.
5.I would appreciate it if... 假如……我将不胜感激
解析:当appreciate后接宾语从句时,一般先加it,再接宾语从句。

类似用法的词还有hate, like, love, dislike, depend/rely on, see to...
e.g.: I would appreciate it a lot if you could give me an early reply.

1.The musicians were to play jokes on each other as well as play music, most of which was based loosely on the Beatles.
组成乐队的音乐人演奏音乐,还彼此打趣逗笑。

弗雷迪和他的乐队无论走到哪里都会有人跟随。

解析:not ... without ...意为“没有……就不能……”。

这是一种双重否定句式,表示肯定意义。

e.g.: 学生不出示学生证,就进入不了图书馆。

Not a student has access to the library without showing his or her student card.
3.Their personal life was regularly discussed by people who did not know them but talked as if they were close friends.
一些不认识他们的人也在不断地讨论他们的私生活,而且就像是他们的密友一样在谈论他们。

解析:as if/though “似乎;好像”,引导方式状语从句,从句常用虚拟语气。

e.g.: 他谈论起长城好像长城是他自己建造的一样。

He talked about the Great Wall as if it had been built by himself.。
