I have skated at the Avalon skateboarding ramp with some good friends. It’s a great ramp built by somẹ skateboarders, where big kids help little kids learn to skateboard, and where parents are happy to take their kids because it’s a safe place.
If you can help to get this skateboard tamp built, we kids will be very thankful.
With best wishes and lots of hope!

When Oxford University Press (牛津大学出版社)chose “rizz” as its 2023 Word of the Year, many people asked, “Rizz? Is it really a word?” At the same time, many young English speakers laughed out loud,” Seriously? You haven’t heard of rizz? “Well, rizz means the ability to catch people’s eyes, the ability to make people like you. Are you good at making friends? Do your classmates often laugh loudly at your jokes? Then you probably have rizz. You can also take rizz as an action, for example, “rizz up someone (it means catching people’s attention and easy to make friends with)”. The word found its way into slang (俚语) through social media (社交媒体). Similarly, in China, words like “xianyanbao (class clown)” are used by young people in a humorous way.
These changes show that both English and Chinese are alive. A healthy language researchers said, should always have new words being created, new words borrowed from other languages, and old words given new meanings. The changes also show that people born this century have more influence on society. The differences in lifestyles and ways of thinking have also played a role in the language.
As we look back on 2023, one thing we can’t miss is AI. Chat GPT and other AI system have “rizzed up” many users around the world with their ability to write articles, draw picture and get mam ideas of books. They may be smart, but they are just using human language. It hard to imagine Chat GPT creating a word without instruction, making it popular and final influencing the
way we human speak and write.
You should be proud of your ability to play with words. But before you go and create another hot slang word, always remember to express yourself politely. Also, don’t use slang in your exams because it won’t “rizz up your teachers” !
31.If we say a boy “rizz up” his classmates, the boy is ________.
A.similar to his classmates
B.popular with his classmates
C.cheered up by his classmates
32.Why are the words “xianyanbao” mentioned at the end of Paragraph 1?
A.To help students have a better understanding of English grammar.
B.To explain how slangs are used among young people in China.
C.To show something in common between English and Chinese.
33.According to the researchers, which of the following can be a healthy language?
A.A language that grows and changes.
B.A language that shows people’s healthy life.
C.A language that influences people’s roles in society.
34.What can we learn about AI from the passage?
A.Human beings invented a new AI in 2023.
B.It’s hard for AI to have its own language.
C.AI will be smarter than human beings.
35.In which situation does the writer probably think hot slangs can be used?
A.In your teacher’s office.
B.In your science report paper.
C.In your good friend’s dancing party.

The woman, Bouammouch Kheira, who is from Algeria, had a total nasal reconstruction
surgery(全鼻再造手术)—the first of its kind in Africa—that was done by Li and other members of a Chinese medical team 39 years ago.
Kheira traveled 10,000 kilometers from Algeria to Wuhan. “This is my first visit to China, but I didn’t feel the journey was hard at all, because I was so excited to meet Professor Li, my Chinese mother,” Kheira said.
In 1984, Li joined the 11th Chinese medical aid mission(援助团) to Algeria. In March of the following year, Kheira, then 12, went to the hospital with a stomach problem, and Li and her team happened to be there to provide medical services. A Chinese doctor noticed there was something wrong with the little girl’s nose. A dog bit the tip of Khoira’s nose when she was just 2 years old. The doctor took the girl to see Li.
“If she hadn’t gone through that unlucky experience, she would have grown up to be a beautiful lady,” Li said. “The surgery could accept nothing except full victory.”
After considering many conditions, Li decided to take skin from one of Kheira’s upper arms, because it matched the color of her face and was near to the nose. The surgery was very successful.
Kheira said that she was scared at first, but Li’s warm care made her think of her mother and gave her hope.” Without my Chinese mother, my life would have been darker than death.” Kheira added.
