Success is a continuous journey
Why do so many people reach success and then fail? One of the big reasons is, we think success is a one-way street. So we do everything that leads up to success, but then we get there. We figure we've made it, we sit back in our comfortable zone, and we actually stop doing everything that made us successful. And it doesn't take long to go downhill. And I can tell you a real story happened to Dr Richard John.
Reaching success, he worked hard, he pushed himself. But then he stopped, because he thought he figured, and can just sit back and relax.
Reaching success, he was pretty good at coming up with good ideas. Because he did all these simple things that led to ideas. But then he stopped, because he figured he was great enough and he shouldn't have to work at ideas, they should just come like magic. But the only thing that came was creative block. He couldn't come up with any ideas.
Reaching success, he always focused on clients and projects, and ignored the money. Then all this money started pouring in. And he got distracted by it. And suddenly he was on the phone to his stockbroker and his real estate agent, when he should have been talking to his clients.
And reaching success, he always did what he loved. But then he got into stuff that he didn't love, like management. He thought he was the worst manager, but he figured he should be doing it, because he was, after all, the president of the company.
Well, soon a black cloud formed over his head, outwardly very successful, but inwardly very depressed.
Well, it didn't take long for business to drop like a rock. His partner and he, they had to let all their employees go. It was down to just the two of them, and they were about to go under. And he thought that was great. Because with no employees, there was nobody for him to manage.
So he went back to doing the projects he loved. he had fun again, he worked harder and, to cut a long story short, did all the things that took him back up to success. But it wasn't a quick trip. It took him seven years.
But in the end, his business grew bigger than ever. And when he went back to following these eight principles, the black cloud over his head disappeared altogether.
Success isn't a one-way street. It's a continuous journey. And if we want to avoid "success-to-failure-syndrome," we just keep following these eight principles, because that is not only how we achieve success, it's how we sustain it. So here is
to your continued success. Thank you very much.。
