Animals
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I t’s my pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. Today I’ll teach the children something about “animals”. The topic of my lesson is “At a farm”, which is from PEP primary English student’s book, Unit 6 Part A, Grade 4.
I. Teaching aims
According to the general aim of this unit, we have three aims: 1.Knowledge aims: A.To enable the students to understand, read and use the words of “Let’s learn”, hen,
sheep, cow, horse, lamb and goat, and the usage of the plural forms of the animals.
B.To enable students to use the key structures of this lesson, “What are they? They
are goat.” Make sure the students can use these sentences in real situations.
2.Ability aims:
A.To develop the students basic ability of listening and speaking.
B.To enable the students to use the sentences in their daily life.
C.To foster the students abilities of communication.
3.Emotion aims:
A.To arouse the students to interest of learning English.
B.To let the children learn how to co-operate with each other in their study.
C.To improve the students sense of loving animals and loving life.
II. Key-points and difficult points
Key-points of this lesson are:
Enable the students to understand, read and use the words of animals.
The difficult points are:
The pronunciation and the plural forms of the new words.
III. Teaching methods
Then, I’d like to show you my teaching and learning methods. I’m going to use situation teaching methods, and task-based learning teaching. I present the tasks with the help of the multimedia. The students will learn the knowledge though some practice and game. So I prepare some cards, a tape recorder and some PowerPoint and so on.
Now I’m going to take the following steps.
Step 1 Warm-up and review
Firstly, I’ll have some greetings with the students. Secondly, I’ll sing the song <Old MacDonald>. Thirdly, I’ll let the students review the names of the animals that they learned before. Just like this:
Hello, everyone. How are you today? Thank you, I’m fine, too. Look here. It’s a farm, Old MacDonald’s farm. Do you remember the animals on his farm? Yes, there are some ducks, rabbits, pigs and a dog, a cat, so on. I think you must remember the song <Old MacDonald>. Well, let’s sing the song together. (Sing the song) Wonderful. In this lesson, we’ll continue to study about animals. And there are some other animals at the farm. Do you want to see them? Let’s go.
Step 2 Presentation
When I present the new knowledge with the old knowledge. I’ll show a beautiful
farm follow the new animals on the screen. And lead them to learn the new words, just like this:
Look, the farm is so big, and there are so many animals. Listen! What sound is it? “Moo, Moo…” Do you like milk? I know she can give us milk. Who can tell me what it is? Yes, it’s a cow, c-o-w. What is it? It’s a cow. Pay attention to “ow” /au/. Would you like to have a try? You, please. “Cow” Good! And you please. “Cow”. Good job! Now please read after her. OK, look here. What are they? Yes, they are cows. Now follow me, cows, cows. They are cows. Please answer my question: What are they? They are cows. Please ask me: What are they? They are cows.
Look at the next animal. They are very shy.We also just look at his feet. Guess, please! What are they? Yes, It’s a sheep. Sheep, s-h-e-e-p, sheep. Please pay attention to “ee”/ I:/, sheep. Ok, boys read this word; sheep, sheep, sheep (more and more loudly) girls read this word, sheep, sheep, sheep (more and more lowly). There is only one, I’ll draw another one. How many sheep can you see? Three. What are they? They are sheep. It’s a special word. Its singular form and plural form are the same. Please answer my question: What are they? They are sheep. Please ask me: What are they? They are sheep.
Well, every morning, what would you like for breakfast? I’d like some milk and some eggs. Where are the eggs from? Yes, they are from a hen, h-e-n, /e/, hen. Read high voice, hen, hen, hen. Read low voice, hen, hen, hen. There are a lot of hens. We can say hens. What are they? They are hens. Please ask me: What are they? They are hens.
Now, let’s listen to the song, and answer my question: what does Mary have? <Mary has a little lamb> OK, what does Mary have? Yes, Mary has a little lamb. Lamb, l-a-m-b. Ok, group1, lamb, lamb, lamb; group2, lamb, lamb, lamb; group3, lamb, lamb, lamb; group4, lamb, lamb, lamb. There are a lot of lambs. We can say lambs. What are they? They are lambs. Please ask me: What are they? They are lambs.
The last animal runs fast. Like this. (Show a picture quickly) What’s it? Yes, It’s horse, h-o-r-s-e, horse. Please pay attention to these letters / /, horse. There are a lot of horses. We can say horses. What are they? They are horses. Please ask me: What are they? They are horses.
Step 3 Practice
After the new words and sentences, we’ll do some practice.
Activity 1:
The students listen to the tape-recorder and follow it. They can learn the right pronunciations.
Activity 2:
I’ll show the cards and lead the student to read these words one by one. Then I’ll practice them in different ways, such as high or low voice, and so on. After that I’ll let the students practice in groups. Finally, I’ll check them. For example, I stick the cards on the blackboard. Then I’ll call some students to stand in front and touch the right words that I say. The student who has the fastest reaction should be rewarded. Activity 3:
Pair work. One of the pair imitates the sounds or actions of the animals, and the other guess. If the answer is right, all the other students read after him. If the answer is wrong, all the other students say the right answer, just like this:
S1: (make a action) what are they? What are they?
S2: They are horses. They are horses.
Ss: Yes, Yes, they are horses.
S1: (make a action) what are they? What are they?
S2: They are goats. They are goats.
Ss: No, no, they are sheep.
Activity 4:
Listen to the “Let’s do”, and do some action.
Boys and girls, let’s do some action, and read after it. Feed the hens. Ride a horse. Milk a cow. Sheer a sheep. Hold a lamb.
Step 4 Consolidation
Do some exercise, such as a filling blank, in order to consolidate the knowledge points of this lesson.
Step 4 Extension
As we know, English is useful in our daily life. The students should put what they learn into practices. In this step, I’ll make some scenes about farm, to raise students’interest and let them have a better understanding about the words and sentences. Firstly, let students draw a farm full of animals. Maybe their animals are not alike, just to try.
When they finish the drawing, they can make a new dialogue with their own picture in groups. They can use the key points of this lesson or use their own words. I’ll give them three minutes to prepare it. Then I’ll let them show. Just like one student play a farmer, and others play visitors. “Hello, everyone. Welcome to my farm. What are they? They are goats. What are they? They are lambs.”
Step 5 Homework
Look at my blackboard design. Today we have learnt the words: hen, sheep, goat, cow, horse and lamb”and two structures: What are they? They are sheep. Now homework for today:
1.Listen to the tape and read the words.
2.Make a new dialogue with your partner. And talk about your own farm
with your parents.
3.Do the exercises of the activity book.
I believe the students can use the knowledge freely now. So much for my lesson, thanks you for your attention.。
