Brazil Has Cut Back Its Population Growth by Chance

From the graph (table, chart), we can clearly see the decrease of the population in Brazil. Brazil's population growth rate has dropped from 2.99% a year between 1951 and 1960 to 1. 93% a year between 1981 and 1990. Therefore, it can be predicted that Brazil's population growth rate is to be on the decrease in the future.

There are chiefly two reasons for the decline. Both soap operas and installment play an important, although indirect, role in lowering the birth rate. For one thing, most soaps are based on wealthy characters living the high life in big cities, which describe middle and upper class values-not many children, different attitudes towards sex, women working, as a result, they send this image to all parts of Brazil and make people conscious of other patterns of behavior and other values, which are put into a very attractive package. For another, the installment plans try to encourage the poor to become consumers, which leads to an enormous change in consumption patterns.

In short, soap operas have helped in lowering Brazil's birth rate because they have gradually changed people's way of life. Meanwhile, the desire for consumption helps to reduce birth rate, too.

The Number of People Attending Adult Education Being on the Rise

From the graph (table, chart), we can clearly see the increase of the number of people attending adult and continuing education. The number added up to 43,205 in 1997, while the figure was 7,263 in 1987. Therefore, it can be predicted that people to attend this kind of studying are to be on the rise in the future.

Changes in the Ways People Spend Their Holidays

There are chiefly three reasons for the changes. In the first place, with the improvement in people's living standard, they become richer and richer and they can afford to travel abroad, go to the seaside and the other places. Secondly, because the people now have two-day weekend and the government issues the long holiday's policy, that's (namely) , we have seven days to spend on May Day and National Day, they have more time on tourism. What's more, thanks to the increasing desire for relaxation (entertainment), people nowadays attach more importance to physical and mental health. They think that by camping or going to different places, they can return the nature, breathe fresh air, enjoy the beauty of nature as well as feel fully relaxed, especially, under the modem pressure.
