教学设计:
本课教学内容为为人教版选修8第三单元阅读课The Problem of the Snakes,讲述的是一女孩儿如何通过多次尝试,最后成功地把在他母亲家院子里安家的一窝蛇捉住并放归大自然的,他的捕蛇技术也申请了发明专利;文章也提到了申请专利的标准。

文章篇幅较长,内容与学生生活实际不是特别密切。

基于上述分析,本节课的教学设计思路从体裁,思维培养,语言和文本处理四个层面入手。

1.从体裁层面:此文章为故事性的科技文,故事性较强,因此时间线索贯穿始终,因此文章梳理时抓住这一主线,将主要信息进行提炼和理解,让学生对前因后果
有个纵向的掌握;而且文章主题升华围绕科技对人类的影响进行适度的引导。

2.从思维培养层面:既然是科技文,因此文章的逻辑性和条理性极强。

所以在处理文章内容时,将充分利用各种thinking map 即思维导图归纳,整理和输出主要信
息,以帮助学生建立和运用一些初级的逻辑思维。

3.从语言层面:本课文的语言本身不是很难,但是作为科技文,其语言表达准确,逻辑严谨,因此将通过对部分重点词句的解读,让学生感知这种文体特征。

4.从文本处理层面:此文本篇幅较长,就一节课无法面面俱到,因此根据本节课的核心任务或者out-put的需要,着重处理文章前半段,即捕蛇的环节,申请专利环
节有涉及,但是不强调,以做到重点突出。

二.教学目标
1.通过Thinking map 的方法,进行文章信息的解读,梳理以及输出;
2.对部分词句进行重点解读,学习(故事性)科技文的逻辑和语言特征。

3.联系生活中的小发明和人类史上伟大的发明家,感知科技对人类生活的影响。

三. Language Objectives:
⑴ To build up students’ vocabulary by reading.
⑵ To train students to further develop their reading skills.
2. Emotional Objectives:
To arouse students’ awareness of science.
3. Ability Objectives:
⑴ To develop students’ ability to guess meanings of words through the context;
⑵ To cultivate students’ spirit of cooperation with classmates.
四、教学过程
Activity 1 : Chat with students and get them involved.
[Purpose] Chat with students to let students to get ready for such a long passage; to activate students’ knowledge about the topic.
Activity 2 : Identify the focus of the story ----the problem (Para 1). Skim the title and first paragraph to find the problem itself;
Learn a difficult sentence and key words:
Discuss briefly about a merciful way to get rid of snakes;
[Purpose] By doing so , students can narrow down their attention to the focus ,which is the starting
point of this whole scientific exploration mentioned in the text .
Activity 3 : Understand the main idea and the structure of the passage.
Read and try to get the main idea of the whole passage;
Introduce thinking map to construct the passage ‘s main idea ;
[Purpose ] Students will have a general picture of the passage and start to use simple thinking maps.
Activity 4 : Read for details and language (Para2-6)
Read the paragraphs and finish different thinking maps ;
Appreciate some key words and sentences;
Think critically about the content;
[Purpose] Students will have enough to read the details and apply the details to design thinking maps; they will learn the language and try to think critically to appreciate more about
this genre.
Activity 5 : Present the invention using thinking maps to apply for a patent at the patent office.
Group work to draw their thinking maps
Present the invention mentioned in this passage using the thinking maps
Conclude the stages inventors must go through
[Purpose] Students will be grouped and asked to design their own thinking maps based on the main idea of the passage . Actually ,on one hand ,students retell the passage in this
way; on the other hand, the topic of the patent which will be discussed in the next
class can be introduced.
Activity 6 : Appreciate the theme : inventions change our life.
Know of the great inventions in human history;
See pictures of some inventions in our daily life;
Read some quotation concerning invention.
[Purpose] Students will see the familiar inventions in human history as well as some small but smart inventions in daily life. Hopefully, this part will have the wow factor when the
students realize that inventions can be so close to their everyday life.。
