Breaking Barriers and Embracing the World: A Speech on Guangdong
Good evening everyone,
It is an honor to stand before you today to talk about
one of the most beautiful places in China, Guangdong. As a province that has undergone tremendous transformation, it has become one of the most modern and dynamic places in the world. Today, I would like to share with you some of the innovative initiatives that Guangdong is undertaking to drive economic growth and foster a more open and inclusive society.
First of all, let me talk about the Greater Bay Area Initiative. The Greater Bay Area Initiative is a plan to
merge Hong Kong, Macau, and nine prosperous cities in the Guangdong Province into a powerful economic entity, with a combined GDP exceeding $1.5 trillion. The initiative aims to create a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity, facilitate the free flow of goods, capital, and ideas, and deepen Hong Kong's integration with mainland China. It is an effort that
epitomizes China's commitment to opening up and development cooperation.
Under the initiative, a host of ambitious projects are being implemented, and these projects range from building a first-class airport, expanding high-speed rail networks, to constructing international science and technology innovation centers. With the support of innovative policies and thriving entrepreneurship, Guangdong is speeding up its transformation from a manufacturing hub into a high-tech hub. The Greater
Bay Area will surely become one of the most important global research, production, and innovation centers in the near future.
Secondly, Guangdong is also pioneering a new era of
social development, characterized by social harmony, inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability. In Guangdong, we are devoted to creating a more diverse and tolerant
society where inclusiveness is the norm. We are making
strides to eradicate poverty, provide equitable access to education, and offer equal employment opportunities. We also prioritize environmental sustainability by promoting green development, reducing carbon emissions, and implementing an ecological civilization policy.
Moreover, Guangdong recognizes that cultural exchange is paramount to creating a harmonious world. As a province that boasts a rich culture and long history, we are eager to showcase our unique traditions and learn from others. To this end, we have held a series of events such as the Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival, the Guangdong Music Festival, and the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, to name but a few. These events have served as a platform for cultural exchange and helped to narrow the gap between different cultures.
In summary, Guangdong is much more than just a place on the map. It is a beacon of innovation, progress, and inclusiveness. The Greater Bay Area Initiative and Guangdong's pursuit of a more inclusive and sustainable society are the two pillars that prop up its development.
