What would happen next?

(1)与所给短文及段落开头语的衔接程度;
(2)内容的丰富性和对所标出关键词语的应用情况;
(3)应用语法结构和词汇的丰富性和准确性;

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before。

He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West。

We took a plane to Albuquerque,a big city in the state of New Mexico。

We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon。

Uncle__Paul,__my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos。

His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle.My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm__house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby。

Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast.“The day starts at dawn on my farm,” he said. After breakfast,I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses。

They looked really cool。

In the afternoon,I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes,as long as my dad went with me。

I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So,my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains。

“Don’t be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried,“and keep to the track so that you don’t get__lost!”“OK!"my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene。

It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse。

Afraid
that I might hurt the lovely small creature, I automatically let out a cry to stop my horse。

However, it became scared and started to run like crazy。

All this coming, without warning, I was seized by fear. “Don’t let go the rope! Keep calm!" yelled Dad。

I followed what he told me to。

To my relief, it stopped slowly. But before we jumped off the horses, we found that we had been off the beaten track and got__lost。

Paragraph 2:
We had no idea where we were and it got dark。

Exhausted and hungry,I wondered if we could find our way back。

I kept shouting for help, hoping my shouts could be heard by someone, but there was no reply。

Dad sounded a little worried as he reminded me to calm down. It was then that my mind raced。

“Listen, Dad, the rushing river water,” I shouted excitedly, “we can return to the farm__house down the river.” Before long, we caught sight of the lights in the distance. We knew we were safe. What a thrilling vacation, like never before, we had!

A Vacation with My Mother
I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprises and amusements, all because of my mother-loving, sweet, yet absent.minded and forgetful。

One strange family trip we took when I was eleven tells a lot about her。

My two sets of grandparents lived in Colorado and North Dakota, and my parents decided to spend a few weeks driving to those states and seeing all the sights along the way。

As the first day of our trip approached, David,__my eight。

year.old brother, and I unwillingly said goodbye to all of our friends. Who knew if we’d ever see them again? Finally, the moment of our departure arrived, and we loaded suitcases,
books, games, camping equipment, and a tent into the car and bravely drove off. We bravely drove off again two hours later after we'd returned home to get the purse and traveler’s checks Mom had forgotten。

David and I were always a little nervous when using gas station bathrooms if Mom was driving while Dad slept: “You stand outside the door and play lookout(放哨) while I go, and I’ll stand outside the door and play lookout while you go。

” I had terrible pictures in my mind:“Honey, where are the kids?”“What?! Oh, Gosh.。

I thought they were being awfully quiet.” We were never actually left behind in a strange city, but we weren’t about to take any chances。

On the fourth or fifth night, we had trouble finding a hotel with a vacancy. After driving in vain for some time, Mom suddenly got a great idea: Why didn't we find a house with a likely。

looking backyard and ask if we could set up tent there? David and I became nervous。

To our great relief, Dad turned down the idea。

Mom never could understand our objections(反对). If a strange family showed up on her front doorstep, Mom would have been delighted。

She thinks everyone in the world is as nice as she is。

We finally found a vacancy in the next town。

Paragraph 1:
The next day we remembered the brand.new tent we brought with us。

We were happy to see it still packed, and hoped it would be packed forever。

However, things came to its turning point。

Mom lost Dad in
the gas station when we were sleeping. What’s worse, as the dark approached, we met the same trouble again. Fearful as Mom was, she decided to camp near the road waiting for Dad。

The wind cried widely like a monster. Tears took control of us。

Mom embraced us tightly singing a smooth song, which really relaxed us. We didn’t met Dad in the last few days, but we felt comfortable staying with Mom.
Paragraph 2:
We drove through several states and saw lots of sights along the way。

The tent became a closer friend then. Every time we camped, Mom would read a book or sing a soft song。

The warmth of her arms never faded away in my memory. Though she was forgetful, laughter accompanied us along the way。

We finally met poor Dad in our destination。

This trip made me realize that love may have many ways, but it can always warm people in the dark。

Though it is one of the faded memories of my life today, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes。

As he had yellow spots on his eyes we called him Spotty。

He would have been a stray(流浪) dog, until he came to me。

I was seven years old. My dad had just got a new job in Nasik。

We had moved into a rented house。

It was raining very heavily on the day we moved.
It was a cold dark night. We had our meal and went to sleep. Somehow in the midnight I heard some strange sounds outside the main door。

I gathered courage and looked out through the window and I was really amused with what I saw outside。

There was a small puppy lying on an old doormat which my mother had put outside the door。

It was wet and trembling。

At first it was difficult to see the little one. It was the yellow spots on its eyes that made me realize its presence.
It was trying to get under the doormat to avoid the cold air outside and it had managed to get in as I could see only its head outside the doormat。

Was it sick or injured?
I felt pity for the poor soul。

I went in and came out with an old towel。

I went near the innocent one and held it in my hand and wiped the puppy till he had become dry. I took him into my room and made a bed for him with a woolen blanket and a small pillow。

He seemed very healthy and comfortable in his new bed as he went to sleep immediately.
The next morning, everyone in the family came to know about the unusual guest。

“Shall we keep him with us?" I questioned my mom。

Like any other parents would, my parents first totally refused my idea but my sister and I convinced them to keep Spotty.
Slowly Spotty got on with everyone and became one of the family members。

Days passed on and one evening when Spotty returned from his long walk, he
appeared very exhausted. He came to my room and sat near me. It was then that I saw his hind leg was injured and was bleeding. I called out my mother and she quickly tied a bandage around his leg and gave him food to eat。

I was very upset. But the next day, Spotty was up to his usual pranks though he limped a bit. After this incident my relation with Spotty became more intense。

I really admired him a lot for his courage.

2:
Almost a year later, one midnight we heard Spotty barking breathlessly。

We came out and saw that he was barking continuously heading somewhere. After some time Spotty became quiet. I patted him on his back and came inside. The next day morning, my heart skipped a beat when I didn’t see Spotty. I searched for him in each and every corner but he was nowhere. And this time he had gone and would never come back。

I cried and waited for him。

We waited for one long week。

But there were no signs of him。

Then one day my dad got transferred to Mumbai。

We shifted back to Mumbai. What would have happened to Spotty? Would he have died? These were the only questions in my mind, but they all remained unanswered forever。

My boyfriend and I had been dating for almost a year and both felt it was time for us to join our lives together in holy marriage。

The month of January was spent planning our perfect June wedding。

My mother, two sisters and I went to town to buy the gown that would play the leading role on my special occasion. We went from one shop to another, still no sign of the dress of my dreams。

We were about to give up when we entered one more shop.
I had a good feeling as we entered the quiet little shop filled with
the scent of fresh flowers. The shop owner announced she had one dress in the back that was expensive and not even my size, but perhaps I might want to look at it anyway. When she brought it out,I screamed in delight—This was it!
Even though it was too large and more costly than I had expected,I talked Mom into buying it。

My excitement assured me I would be able to get it resized in my hometown。

A friend gave me the number of a lady who worked at home changing clothes. When I arrived at her house, she carefully inspected my dress and asked me to try it on.Then she told me to pick it up in two days.
When the time came to pick it up,I was excited but a little nervous。

What would have become of my wedding gown?
Thank goodness。

The dress still looked exactly the same, but it now fitted as if it had been made especially for me.
But on Valentine’s Day,my fiancé called and said he was to call off the wedding. He said he wanted to travel and experience life for a few years before settling down.He apologized for it and then quickly left town。

My world turned upside down。

I was heart-broken and had no idea how to recover.Day by day I survived。

So he said,“I’m here to help you,ma'am.Why don’t you wait in the car where it's warm?By the way,my name is Bryan Anderson。

The car had broke down but it was easily fixed。

Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack (千斤顶).He was able to change the tire soon, but his clothes got dirty and his hands were hurt。

As he was tightening up the tire, the old lady rolled down the window and told him that she couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid. Then the lady asked how much she owed him。

Any amount would have been all right with her。

He replied,“If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do:Do not let this chain of love end with you.”He waited until she started her car and drove off.

They sat in a nice coffee shop.He was too nervous to say anything, and she felt uncomfortable, thinking,“Please let me go home。

Suddenly he asked the waiter,“Would you please give me some salt?I’d like to put it in my coffee."
Everybody stared at him。

So strange! His face turned red, but, still,he put the salt in his coffee and drank it.
She asked him curiously, “Why do you have this hobby?"
He replied,“When I was a little boy, I was living near the sea。

I liked playing in the sea, and I could feel the taste of the sea, just like the taste of the salty coffee。

Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think of my childhood。
