第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)Teak is a large tree that grows in tropical(热带的) forests. It’s often used for outdoor furniture, since it’s more resistant to the elements than other types of wood. When untreated, it tends to fade to a grayish color, so it is often stained(着色). Before being able to stain teak furniture, you’ll need to sand and smooth the wood first.
Wipe dirt and dust off. You can use a dry paper towed or a cloth to brush any dirt off. If there are more tenacious spots to clean off, you can use a wet rag to rub them clean. Sand rough spots with 120 grit sandpaper. After that, use 220 grit sandpaper on the whole surface. Wipe any wood dust off with a dry rag before continuing.
Paint on a layer of sanding sealer(底漆). This will make the surface smoother and will get the wood stain better attached. Once the sealer has started to dry, use a clean cloth to wipe off any sealer that’s still pooled at the top of the wood. This will prevent spots from forming on the wood. Let the sealer dry completely. It should only take a few hours for the sealer to dry completely. You should sand the surface a few times before continuing to smooth out any spots where the sealer might not have dried evenly.
When painting on a layer of stain, a brush will do fine. Apply an even coat all over. Wipe off any stain not absorbed by the wood. Use a clean dry rag to wipe off extra stain. Let the wood stain dry. The amount of time it takes for the stain to completely dry will depend on how thick of a layer you used. Avoid touching the stain too much if it’s still wet. After the first coat has dried, take a moment to see if you’re satisfied with the color. If you want your furniture to be darker, you can add another coat of wood stain, right on top of the previous layer, following the same process.
1、What do we know about teak?
A.It is not easy to be damaged.
B.It bears an ugly original color.
C.It is made into the best furniture.
D.It grows in the hot and dry areas.
2、What does the underlined word “tenacious” in Para 2 probably mean?
A.Huge.
B.Obvious.
C.Stubborn.
D.Colorful.
3、We wipe off any sealer pooled at the top of the wood _______.
A.to get rid of increasing sport
B.to help the sealer dry completely
C.to get the wood stain better stuck
D.to make sure the surface is smooth
4、What is recommended if you want darker colored teak furniture?
A.Wipe dirt and dust off again.
B.Paint on a layer of stain once more.
C.Paint on a layer of sanding sealer twice.
D.Repeat the whole process of coloring teak.
22.(8分)“I’ve always loved food,” says Cassie Dawson in the kitchen of her flat in London. “But I’ve become bored with eating out. I’ve had too many disappointing meals and paid too much money for them! At one point, fed up with my complaint, a friend suggested I open my own restaurant. Impossible, I thought. But then I heard about supper clubs...”
Supper clubs are a mixture of a restaurant and a dinner party — you go to a stranger’s house and he/she cooks dinner for you. Like a restaurant, you pay for your food, but like a dinner party, you eat at the same table as other people. They are advertised through social-networking sites with a menu and little information about where the supper club is until just before the meal.
“It’s like running a secret restaurant for one night,” says Cassie. “The next morning, I set the tables and chairs aside. I put the TV back and it’s my living room again.”
Cassie opens her “restaurant” for people about once a month, and she really enjoys the evenings she’s had so far. She uses fresh, local ingredients and a typical meal costs about the same as a takeaway — much less than a restaurant meal. So how does she make money out of it?
“I don’t,” says Cassie. “In fact, at first I was worried about losing money on my club. I’m good at cooking but my maths is terrible! But I was surprised by how cheaply I could make a good meal. This isn’t about money. It’s about a different eating experience.”
And what about inviting complete strangers into her house? Was Cassie ever nervous about that?
“Not at all,” she says. “Almost everyone at the supper club is just interested in having a good meal with other interesting people.”
1、Why did Cassie decide to open her own restaurant finally?
A.To earn a living. B.To satisfy her friend’s needs.
C.To make friends with strangers. D.To cook cheap and good meals for others.
2、What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Dinner parties. B.Supper clubs. C.Fresh ingredients. D.Invitations to dinner.
3、We can know that Cassie’s restaurant ________.
A.serves meals for free B.only serves takeaways
C.is only open to her friends D.is only open in the evening
4、How does Cassie feel about her restaurant now?
A.Worried. B.Content. C.Annoyed. D.Sensitive

24.(8分)This year’s flu season is pretty scary. To try to minimize the effects, public officials are still urging anyone who hasn’t yet gotten their flu shot to get one as soon as possible. However, even if every single person got a shot in the arm, the vaccine(疫苗)—with its excellent 36 percent effectiveness—would not prevent everyone from getting infected with the annoying virus. Knowledge is power, so here's what goes on in your body when you come down with the flu.
The influenza virus primarily attacks your nose, throat, and the tubes that lead to your lungs. But the flu is so much more than that. Your muscles ache, your head hurts, and your appetite goes down, among other things. To our surprise, almost all of these symptoms have less to do with the virus itself than with your immune( 免疫的)response to them. Unfortunately, the very defense you have in place to get rid of the flu is the reason you feel so painful when you recover.
The virus usually enters through your mouth, typically by way of your hands . But it takes a few days for symptoms to set in. While this process might cause some harm to your nose and throat, it's nothing major, and nothing like the symptoms that typically accompany a bad or even mild case of the flu.
The real fun starts when your immune system begins to fight. Y our immune system comes in two parts: the innate system and the adaptive. The innate immune system is essentially an all-purpose tool. As soon as your body senses the presence of any injury or invader , the innate immune system launches into action by producing tiny proteins called cytokines and chemokines. The cytokines reproduce almost immediately and start to attack the virus. This increase in immune cells creates a serious
inflammation( 炎症) throughout the body. But the worst is still to come.
Meanwhile, the chemokines work with the adaptive immune system to help create T cells. These cells are a special type of white blood cell that works in a much more specific way: They find the influenza virus, identify what's special about it, and create something unique on their surface that finds and destroys similar invaders.
1、What can we infer from Paragraph 1?
A.All the vaccine is not effective.
B.No one can avoid catching this year's flu.
C.This year's flu is the most serious one in recent years.
D.Public health officials have to use a gun when necessary.
2、Why many parts of your body suffer while you're recovering from a flu? A.Because recovery from illness is painful.
B.Because your immune system is working against your defense system. C.Because your body is fighting hard against the flu.
D.Because the influenza virus attacks your nose, throat and other parts.
3、The underlined word “fun” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by.
A.joy B.battle
C.action D.program
4、What's the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.The fight between innate immune system and the adaptive.
B.The categories of immune system.
C.The way immune system works.
D.The process of the development of immune system.

29、I’m glad to receive your letter, and thank you for your caring for the weather and my health. Now I’d like to tell you something about the haze.
Since the end of last year, the hazy weather has occurred a lot of times in my hometown, which has done great harm to our daily life. Many traffic accidents happened just because of the heavy smog. Besides, more and more citizens have to go to see the doctor due to the serious diseases caused by the haze. A great number of people have to stay at home for fear of the poisonous air.
As for me, I will go to school by bike or on foot, and I won’t throw the waste anywhere. In addition, I will tell the people I meet to protect the environment. Would you like to tell me some good ideas? I’m looking forward to your reply.
