① One year, the weather was so dry that no food would grow.
② The wife told her husband that unless he left the children to die in the forest, the whole family would die.

1) Ss will be able to catch the key information of each scene of the story.
2) Ss will be able to role-play the story, imagine and act out the ending of the story.
3.Moral aims
Books are our friends. Read more interesting fairy tales in English to open our mind. The more you read, the better your English will be. Let’s read more books.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Watch the videos : Say the main idea of each scene.
2. Introduce Grimm’s fairy tales: what is a fairy tale.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Introduce some new words through pictures and sentences.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Read for the first time
1). Read descriptions in 2c and match them with each scene.
2). Say something about each picture and catch the main idea of the whole story.
2. Read for the second time
Read the story and finish checking the details:
1). The wife tells her husband to _____ the children in the forest ,or the __________will die because they don’t have __________.
2). What does Hansel go out to get?
He goes out to ___________________.
3). Why does he do it in the moonlight?
He does this to make sure that when the moon is ________(shine)bright, they will be able to ______(see) the stones.
4). How do Hansel and Gretel find their way home?
A. They follow the white stones home.
B. They find the way by themselves.
C. Their stepmother leads them home.

3. Read for the third time
Read and act out the play in groups.

1. Read the story again and try to think about different endings of the story and share them with your friends.
