My mom just bought me a new bike. Since my cousin Mary didn’ t have a bike with her, she walked next to me. I thought that Mary would jump on the luggage
carrier( 行李架 ) over the back tire when I was riding. Mom knew exactly what I was
thinking.“ Don’t ride the bike with Mary on the back,” she said.“ It’s too dangerous. You could kill yourself. Take turns.”
I nodded, but I was thinking I could handle this. A few minutes later,I turned right to a wide road.“ Jump on the back,” I told Mary. I rode fast, laughing
as the wind blew through our hair. It was exciting, until the handlebar(车把) started shaking. The front tire dropped into a drain (下水道) and I fell off the
bike, still holding the handlebar.
My face, hands, and knees crashed into the pavement. The pain in my mouth was unbearable, and I tasted blood. I turned towards Mary who was on the ground, holding her knee and crying. Seconds later, it seemed that my mom’ s car stopped next to us. I wanted Mom to say,“ Oh, my poor sweetheart. Let me hug you and everything
will be fine.”
However, my mom only said,“ What have you done to your face? Vanessa, look
at what you’ ve done!” Mom wasn’ t the gentle“ I love you, sweetie” type.
Sometimes, I thought Mom had no mercy. But in her own way, she was holding me
tighter than I could understand—she was teaching me the lesson I needed.“ You did it—deal with it and learn from it. One day, the results will be greater and
I won ’ t be there to help you. Think it out, Vanessa.”

Every day, in all kinds of weather, thousands of men and women jog. Why has
jogging— running slowly for long distances— become so popular? Most joggers begin because they hear it is a very good exercise.Jogging makes the heart stronger and helps people lose weight. It can also help them feel better about themselves.
Donald Robbins, who is forty two years old and works in an office, began jogging a few years ago because he felt hewas too fat. At first he could only run about
100 yards. It took him three months to be able to run a mile. But two years later,
he ran in a marathon over twenty six miles. Many joggers, like Donald Robbins, feel that if they can succeed in jogging, they can succeed in other things, and quite
often this feeling helps them in their jobs.
Should you jog too? If you do, be sure to ask your doctor for advice. Jogging
may be too much exercise for you.
Does jogging cost much? No, it costs almost nothing. But it is very important
to have a good pair of shoes that are made especially for jogging. They protect your feet and legs from the shock of running on the hard surface.
How fast should you go? Jog with a friend and talk to each other as you run.
If you have difficulty in talking, you're going too fast.
How far should you jog?Remembernot to go too far too soon.In fact, you should walk, not run, the first few times. Then do some short jogs, but no more than what you can do comfortably. After that, increase your distance a quarter or half a mile every two weeks or so. Maybe in a few years, you can run in a marathon too.
8. The article is mainly about______.
A. jogging as a sport B.jogging as an exercise
C. jogging in a safe way D. jogging as a way to the marathon 9. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article?

B. Many people think that jogging needs one's will power.

10. Which piece of advice is NOT mentioned in the article?
A. Have a good pair of shoes.
B. Have a sports suit.
C. Remember not to go too far too soon at the beginning.
D. Ask your doctor for advice.
11. Why is jogging so popular according to the passage?
A. It doesn't cost much.B. One can start jogging at any time and in any place.
C. It is a very good exercise.D. One can talk with one's friend while jogging.

第二节书面表达( 满分 20 分)
Dear editor,
The Spring Festival is the most important traditional festival in China. During the seven-day holiday, all the families and friends love to get together to eat ,drink and have fun with each other.
But at the same time, some people will eat and drink too much. It’ s easy for them to put on weight. Some people spend most of the time sitting still, playing
games and card games day and night.
To have a healthy and meaningful Festival, I suggest that, for one thing ,
people should keep a balanced diet and try to avoid rich food and overeating during the festival, which is of great benefit to their health. Why not go out with the
families and friends, such as ,taking a walk in the mountains, to breathe fresh
air and admire the scenery as well? Doing outdoor activities is a good way to help you relax both mentally and physically. I bet that people will get refreshment
afterwards. There are many other choices, too. Family tour is the one if you like.
I hope you find my advice useful and have a happy, healthy and meaningful Spring Festival
Your
sincerely,
Li Hua。
