L esson 1 A Perfect Day (first period)
Teaching goals:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to
1.learn about the two different kinds of lifestyles: a couch potatoes and a
workaholic.
2.find out the differences between two kinds of lifestyles.
3.help themselves develop a healthy and active lifestyle
Teaching important and difficult points:
1.talk about people’s different lifestyles
2.learn and grasp the new words and phrases
municate with each other about lifestyles

Pairwork, scanning, reading, listening, speaking, discussing

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Review
Review the words used to describe the lifestyles of different people.
boring, busy, dangerous, active ,easy, lazy, stressful…
Step 2 Lead-in
Q: Look at the two pictures. What kind of lifestyles do they have? (Mr.Blakey is lazy, Mr. Black is busy and stressful.).
What’s Mr.Blakey doing? Do you like watching TV?
What are your favorite kinds of TV programmes?
Do you ever watch too much TV?
How much time do you spend watching TV every day?
Step 3 Fast-reading
Read the two texts quickly and do Ex.3
have meetings and make phone calls/ deal with urgent matters/ do paperwork and some personal e-mails / read documents at home
Step 4 Careful reading
Read the text again. Underline the new words and phrases, and then answer the questions in Ex.4
Suggested answers:
1. Is Brian a lazy person? Can you find two examples of his lazy behaviour?
Yes, he is. He doesn’t get up early.
He doesn’t work but his wife works a nd she makes his meals.
2 .what do you think ‘you’ve got the world at your feet’ means?
It means you are in a position where you have the chance to become very successful. The person feels he has a successful life because he can watch anything he likes on TV.
3. How does Bob spend his morning and evening?
Bob’s morning is very busy with little time to get dressed and have breakfast and he has all kinds of urgent matters. His evening is not easy, either. He has documents to read and never gets to sleep until mid-night.
4. Wh y does Bob’ family complain?
Because he seldom has time for fun and other activities with his family.
5. Why does Bob work so hard?
Because he wants to make more money for his family and he likes being busy and being challenged.
Step 5: Speaking
What can they do to improve their lifestyles? Discuss and then share your opinions with the class.
For Brain he should spend less time on TV. First , he should get up soon after waking up and do morning exercises. Second , he should try to find a job and go to work every day.
For Bob , he should sleep later every morning. He should eat a big breakfast and be more relaxed. He should also sleep earlier every night, and spend more time with his family.
Step 6. Consolidation
Compare the two lifestyles and design a healthy lifestyle for a student. Speak out the idea in class. And then complete the passage.
