I’m a strong believer that learning different languages makes you look incredibly good when
you’re in a foreign country and can understand and speak the language. The list below is 4 apps
that will help you learn a foreign language! You can download them for free.
Babbel – Learn Languages
Babbel is an excellent language tool to help you progress step by step with learning a new
language. It helps you learn grammar along the way as you work your way through the tasks and
assignments. The downside is that for full access to everything you need to pay a monthly
subscription, but this will still be cheaper than taking physical lessons with a tutor!
Duolingo: Learn Languages Free
The app has many languages to choose from and will work through the basics all the way to
advanced words and sentences. It’s all completely free too! It’s incredibly well designed, looks
great and will help you learn, remember and progress with just a little bit of time every day.
Tandem: Language Exchange
Rather than have you work through tasks and memorize different things, the app lets you match
with people who share your interests but speak the language you want to learn. You can then have
text, voice and video conversations with people who want to learn your native language, and in
return you learn theirs, all by simply communicating with each other. It’s a great way to learn with
only $1 a day.
Learn English – busuu
This app is perfect if you want to learn English. There are all sorts of audio and visual learning
ai ds. You’ll find yourself working through interactive tests and learning tools for vocabulary and
dialogue.

Our summer vacation begins on July 15th and lasts nearly two months. Considering that my brain needs rest after a period of hard work, I, together with my family, went to our countryside, a very small farmhouse in which my grandparents used to live, to spend the summer. Obviously, life in the country is very different from that in the city.
Early in the morning I took a walk along the field side. The air was fresh and pure. With a dog following, sometimes I ran a race in the meadows covered with tall grass. Sometimes I climbed up the hill to see the sun slowly yet steadily rise from the eastern horizon. The birds also sang restlessly among the bushes. In order to appreciate the quietness of the country, I gave myself entirely to nature, with a light heart and a happy mind.
Sometimes in the afternoon I, together with my cousins, took a rod and went to the river to fish. It made the family happy when they saw me returning with a basketful of large fresh fish. When night came, I would sit at the door and tell the most wonderful and interesting stories to my cousins, who listened to the tale of wonder with open eyes and mouth.
I wish I could enjoy such calm, pure and beautiful rural life forever.
24. Why did the family live in their country home during the summer?

In 1943, when I was 4, my parents moved from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Fairbanks,Alaska, where adventure was never very far away.
We arrived in the summer, just in time to enjoy the midnight sun. All that sunlight was fantastic for Mom's vegetable garden. Working in the garden at midnight tended to throw her timing off, so she didn't care much about my bedtime.
Dad was a Railway Express agent and Morn was his clerk. That left me in a mess. I usually managed to find some trouble to get into. Once I had a little fire going in the dirt basement of a hotel. I had tried to light a barrel(桶) of paint but couldn't really get a good fire going. The smoke got pretty bad, though, and when I made my exit, a crowd and the police were there to greet me. The policemen took my matches and drove me home.
Mom and Dad were occupied in the garden and Dad told the police to keep me, and they did! I had a tour of the prison before Morn rescued me. I hadn't turned 5 yet.
As I entered kindergarten, the serious cold began to set in. Would it surprise you to know that I soon left part of my tongue on a metal handrail at school?
As for Leonhard Seppala, famous as a dog sledder (驾雪橇者), I think I knew him well because I was taken for a ride with his white dog team one Sunday. At the time I didn't realize what a superstar he was, but I do remember the ride well. I was wrapped (包裹)heavily and well sheltered from the freezing and blowing weather.
In 1950, we moved back to Coeur d'Alene, but we got one more Alaskan adventure when Leonhard invited us eight years later by paying a visit to Idaho to attend a gathering of former neighbors of Alaska.
28.What can be inferred about the author's family?
A.His father was a cruel man.
B.His parents didn't love him.
C.His parents used to be very busy.
D.His mother didn't have any jobs.
29.What happened when the author was 4?
A.He learned to smoke.
B.He was locked in a basement.
C.He was arrested by the police.
D.He nearly caused a fire accident.
30.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.The author spent his whole childhood in Alaska
B..Leonhard was good at driving dog sleds.
C.Leonhard often visited the author's family after 1950.
D.The author suffered a lot while taking the dog sled in Alaska.
31.What is the author's purpose of writing the text?
A.To look back on his childhood with adventures.。
