I. The Spring Festival(Chinese New Year)
The origin of the Spring Festival is too old to be traced. Also known as the Chinese New Year, it is as important as Christmas to the West; and celebrations last 15 days.
The National Day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. During this time, people can enjoy 7 paid-days off.
Celebrations usually take the form of parties in amusement parks in the daytime and fireworks and grand TV ensembles during the evening.

Preparations begin on the final days of the last lunar month, when most families clean their homes, pay their debts, cut their hair and buy new clothes, couplets, firecrackers, incense, fresh and dried fruits etc.

(1) The Dosof the New Year:
*Children should stay up as late as possible on New Year's Eve for it is believed that the later they stay up, the longer their parents will live.
People also pay respect to their ancestors and pray to the gods for a happy life in the coming months.
2.New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve is a time for family reunion. A ceremonious banquet is held, generally in the evening, for all family members.
*Visit family (especially those older than yourself) and friends to pass on your wishes on good fortune for the New Year.
*Wish everyone you meet a happy New Yearby saying"gong xi fa cai", which translates to: "Havea happy andprosperous New Year!"
