Uh-Oh, No Money for Breakfast!
Boy oh boy, did I ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning! I was sooo excited to get to school because it was French Toast Sticks day in the cafeteria. Those are my absolute favorite! They're sweet and cinnamony, and when you dip them in the little cups of syrup, they're like heaven on a tray. My mouth was watering just thinking about them as I hopped onto the bus.
When I got to my classroom, I went straight to my cubby to get my lunch money out of my backpack. I always put it in that teeny tiny zipper compartment on the front so I don't lose it. But when I unzipped it this morning, the quarters and dimes that are usually there were gone! I emptied everything out on the floor and dug around, but no luck. My money was missing!
I started to panic a little. How was I gonna get those yummy French Toast Sticks now? I can't go all day without eating, my tummy would never stop grumbling. Maybe I lost it on the bus? I
tried to think back to this morning, playing the events over and over in my mind like a movie on rewind.
I remembered brushing my teeth, getting dressed, eating my bowl of Coco Puffs...oooh, those were so chocolatey and good. Focus, focus! Okay, I grabbed my backpack, put on my shoes and zipped up my coat, then ran to catch the bus just before it rolled away. I don't recall dropping any money on the bus though. It must still be at home somewhere!
I decided to tell Mrs. Apple, my teacher, about my money crisis during reading time. I raised my hand and waited patiently until she called on me.
"Yes, Johnny?" she asked in her always cheery voice.
"Mrs. Apple, I think I lost my lunch money at home this morning," I gulped. "I don't have any dollars or coins to buy breakfast or lunch in the cafeteria today."
A frown formed on Mrs. Apple's round, smiley face. "Oh no, that's not good at all! We can't have you going hungry all day." She thought for a moment, tapping her chin with her finger. "Here's what we'll do - I'll lend you 3 from the classroom money jar today. But you'll need to repay me and do a few extra chores tonight at home to earn it back, okay?"
I beamed so big my face felt like it was smiling from ear to ear. "You're the best, Mrs. Apple! I'll make sure to pay you back, I promise."
Phew, crisis averted! Mrs. Apple was so nice to bail me out. As long as I did dishes and took out the trash when I got home, I'd be able to enjoy my French Toast Sticks after all. I couldn't wait for the lunch bell to ring.
When lunchtime finally rolled around, I rushed to be first in line at the cafeteria. I grabbed a tray, asked for four French Toast Sticks, and drizzled them with lots of warm, gooey syrup. Each bite was absolute bliss - soft and fluffy on the inside, crispy and sugary on the outside, with that unmistakable cinnamon-vanilla flavor. It totally hit the spot and filled my tummy right up.
From that day forward, I made double sure to always keep my lunch money zipped up tight in my backpack. I never wanted to risk running out of meals at school again! Whenever French Toast Stick day rolled around on the cafeteria calendar, I'd do a special secret dance because I loved them so darn much. They were worth getting in trouble over, that's for sure.
I learned a very important lesson that day too - always be prepared and keep track of your stuff, especially anything involving food! My snacks and meals are just too precious to me.
I may be a kid, but this kid loves to eat. And when you've got a healthy appetite like mine, running out of breakfast money is only slightly less tragic than the apocalypse! Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but a day without French Toast Sticks sure does feel like the end of the world.

It Was One of Those Mornings
Oh boy, was it one of those mornings! You know how it goes - you wake up feeling all groggy and your tummy is rumbling like crazy. Mama always says a good breakfast is the most important meal of the day to fuel your growing body and brain. But on this particular morning, things didn't go quite as planned.
I hopped out of bed, my Wild Kratts pajamas all twisted up, and hurried to get ready for school. I brushed my teeth superfast, gulping down water to get that icky morning breath out. Then I raced to the kitchen, my stomach really grumbling now. The sweet smell of pancakes filled the air and I could see the pancake batter all ready to go on the counter.
"Yes! Pancake day!" I cheered, doing a little dance. Pancakes are my absolute favorite breakfast ever.
Mama laughed at my pancake celebration dance. "Slow down there, munchkin. Let me get those pancakes cooking."
I sat down at the table, kicking my feet back and forth with excitement as Mama poured the batter onto the hot griddle. The sizzling sound was like beautiful music to my hungry ears. I watched, mesmerized, as the pancakes puffed up, turning the most perfect golden brown.
Finally, Mama slid a short stack onto my Wonder Woman plate. I could hardly wait to drown them in sweet maple syrup. But just as I reached for the syrup bottle, Mama gasped.
"Oh no! We're all out of syrup," she said, frowning at the empty bottle.
My face fell. "But Mama, pancakes aren't the same without syrup!"
She gave me an apologetic look. "I'm so sorry, honey. I completely forgot to pick up more at the store. How about we use that jar of strawberry jam instead?"
Well, it wasn't ideal, but strawberry jam would have to do in a pinch. I slathered the red jammy goodness all over my pancakes and dug in. They were still pretty tasty, but didn't quite hit the spot like when drenched in that sticky-sweet maple syrup.
With my tummy full of pancakes, I grabbed my Wonder Woman backpack and headed out the door for the bus stop down the street. The neighborhood was just waking up, with dogs barking and sprinklers ticking over the lawns. I could smell things like fresh-cut grass and somebody's breakfast cooking. Mmm, maybe it was bacon!
When I reached the bus stop, most of my friends from up and down the block were already there. We chattered away about our favorite TV shows and video games while we waited for the bus. Every once in a while, somebody's mom would come out with a granola bar or a few quarters for them to buy a school breakfast.
Well, no such luck for me that morning. "Aw, man!" I remembered with a pang. In the rush to get out the door after the whole pancake syrup fiasco, I had forgotten to grab any money from Mama for the breakfast line at school. My friends all knew I loved the French toast sticks or the sausage biscuits they sold in the cafeteria most mornings. There was no way I could go without that morning fuel for my growing body and brain!
When the bus finally rumbled up, my friend Marcus offered me one of the granola bars his mom had given him. "Here, you
can have this if you want. I know how hangry you get without a good breakfast," he said, chuckling.
Leave it to a pal to remember my untimely bouts of "hanger" - that's what Mama calls it when you get hungry and angry all at once. I gratefully took the granola bar, giving Marcus a high-five. "Thanks, dude! You're a real life saver."
The granola bar tided me over for the short bus ride to school, at least. Once we arrived on campus, the scent of breakfast food wafted through the air from the cafeteria. My stomach flipped knowing my favorite French toast sticks were being served, but I didn't have a single quarter to my name to buy them.
At least I had my packed lunch from Mama to look forward to at lunchtime. As my friend group headed inside, I trailed along behind, bummed about missing out on a proper breakfast. Sometimes mortifying things like being "food poor" happened, despite Mama working hard to keep food on the table. I tried not to dwell on that sad reality too much.
Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see my pal Raina holding out a few quarters. "Here, Josh. I overheard you didn't have any money for breakfast this morning. Take
these and get yourself something from the line," she said with a warm smile.
My eyes widened in surprise. "Whoa, really? You don't have to do that, Raina!"
She waved a hand. "Ah, it's no big deal. I packed a lunch today anyway."
Raina's generosity made me want to cry happy tears. Even though most days I had enough pocket money for a meal, food insecurity was a real thing in my community and at our school. Lots of families struggled with it silently. The simple act of sharing some spare change for a warm breakfast showed how much Raina cared about me and our friendship. What an awesome human being!
"You're the best, Raina! I owe you one," I said, giving her a big grateful hug. Then I hurried off to the cafeteria line, feeling so thankful. With Raina's quarters, I was able to get those delicious French toast sticks that hit the spot.
As I munched away happily, I couldn't help but reflect on that morning's eventful turn of events. What started as a total breakfast bummer because of no syrup or lunch money had turned into a beautiful lesson about friendship, empathy and not
judging others' circumstances. My friends had been so kind and generous, making sure I didn't go hungry. It was proof that even

Here's a 2000 word essay about the feeling of not having money for breakfast, written from the perspective of an elementary school student in English:
Uh-oh, I Forgot My Lunch Money Again!
Aw man, I did it again! I forgot to ask Mom for money to buy my breakfast at school. This is like the third time this month! I'm such a dum-dum sometimes.
I was running so late this morning because I couldn't find my favorite Spider-Man shirt to wear. It was under my bed the whole time! By the time I got it on and ran downstairs, Mom was already rushing me out the door. "Let's go, you're going to miss the bus!" she said, practically pushing me out the front door.
As I ran up to the bus stop, I could hear the big yellow bus coming down the street. "Wait for me!" I yelled, waving my arms like a crazy person. Luckily, the bus driver is really nice and she waited for me to run up and get on. Phew!
I plopped down in the first empty seat I could find and tried to catch my breath. That's when I realized – I forgot to get breakfast money from Mom! I looked down at my empty hands and my tummy started growling. Oh no, what was I going to do?
You see, I really, really love the breakfast they serve at my elementary school. They make the best pancakes with sweet, sticky syrup and smiley-face bacon on the side. And on Fridays, they have these warm, melty chocolate chip muffins that are out-of-this-world delicious! Just thinking about it was making me hungry.
But without any money, I wouldn't be able to get any of those yummy morning treats. I slumped down in my seat, feeling sadder than a rainbow during a rainstorm. What a terrible way to start the day.
When we got to school, I dragged my feet all the way to my classroom, watching enviously as other kids bounded down the hallway towards the cafeteria. I could almost smell the pancakes from here! My tummy growled again, louder this time. This was torture!
I took my usual seat and dropped my head on my desk with
a loud thunk. Maybe if I just took a little nap, I could dream about eating a big stack of pancakes. Yeah, that's what I'll do!
"Why the long face, Bobby?" a cheery voice said, interrupting my schemes. I looked up and it was my best friend Sammy.
"Hey Sammy," I said with a sigh. "I forgot to get breakfast money from my mom again today. I'm so hungry!"
Sammy's eyes went wide. "Oh no, that's the worst! Here, you can have one of my extra pancakes if you want." She pulled a saran-wrapped pancake out of her lunchbox and handed it to me.
I could've cried I was so happy! "Thanks Sammy, you're a real life-saver!" I said, before gobbling it up in three bites. It was delicious, even at room temperature. Pancakes really do make everything better.
Sammy laughed at me licking the syrup off my fingers. "Don't mention it. I always bring an extra one, just in case."
"You're the best friend a kid could ask for." I told her, finally feeling my spirits lift a little. I'd been hangry - you know, hungry and angry? But now I was just pleasantly hungry. I could make it through till lunchtime no problem.
Well, maybe not no problem. Halfway through our math quiz, my stomach decided to revengrozly on me by growling loud
enough for probably the entire classroom to hear! I heard a bunch of giggles from across the room and my face turned as red as a tomato.
"Bobby, do you have a lion in your tummy or something?" My teacher Mrs. Baker asked with a chuckle. "Maybe you should have had some breakfast!"
I gave her a sheepish grin and decided to just own it. "You know what they say - human bodies are 60% lion!" I joked back. The whole class cracked up. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Lunchtime couldn't come soon enough. I was the first one through the cafeteria line, piling my tray high with a yummy looking personal pizza, a chocolate milk, and for dessert - a big cookie! Oh yeah, now we're talking.
"Save some for the rest of us, Bobby!" Sammy teased as I dug into my feast.
I just grinned at her, cheeks full of pizza. "Shurry, Ish tryin'!" That's what friends are for, right?
As I took the last delicious bite of my cookie, I felt full, content, and very grateful for the best buddy a guy could have. Even though mornings when I forget my breakfast money are pretty rough, things always seem to work out okay in the end.
I made a mental note to put a reminder on my mom's phone to make sure she gives me cash from now on. A hungry morning is no fun at all! But lucky for me, I've got awesome friends to help get me through. Pancakes or not, life is still pretty sweet.

Oh no! I Can't Believe I Forgot My Money for Breakfast!
Uh oh, I'm in big trouble today! You'll never believe what happened to me this morning. I woke up feeling really hungry, which is normal for me. I'm a growing kid and I always seem to have an empty stomach! My mom made my favorite breakfast - yummy pancakes with maple syrup and a glass of cold milk. I gobbled it all down fast because I didn't want to be late for school.
After breakfast, I put on my backpack and ran out the door towards the school bus stop. The bus pulled up right on time and I hopped on, finding a seat near the back next to my best friend Tommy. We talked about our plans for recess and couldn't wait for lunchtime because it was pizza day in the cafeteria!
Finally, we made it to Rhodes Elementary. I said bye to Tommy and headed towards my third grade classroom. My teacher, Mrs. Applegate, was waiting at the door to welcome us
inside. I put away my backpack and took out my reading book, ready to start the day.
That's when I suddenly had a sinking feeling in my stomach –and not because I was still hungry! I reached into my pocket to make sure I had money for milk and a muffin during breakfast time at school. But my pocket was empty! I could feel my face turning bright red as I realized in horror that I had forgotten to bring any money with me. Oh no, what was I going to do?
During our reading period, my stomach started growling really loudly. A few kids at my table giggled and I felt so embarrassed. I raised my hand and asked Mrs. Applegate if I could go to the bathroom. But really, I just wanted to go look inside my backpack one more time to see if maybe my breakfast money had somehow fallen inside. No luck – my backpack was empty too.
When the bell rang for breakfast time, my heart sank into my belly. All the other kids lined up proudly at the classroom door with their money in hand. I had nothing. I sadly took my place at the back of the line, trying to make myself invisible by staring down at my feet. I could feel tears starting to form in my eyes but I didn't want anyone to see me cry.
Mrs. Applegate pulled me aside and asked if I had forgotten my breakfast money. I sadly nodded yes and looked down at the floor. She gave me a warm hug and told me everything would be okay. She reached into her desk drawer and gave me enough money to buy a carton of milk and an apple. I felt a tiny bit better, but I was still really disappointed in myself for forgetting. How could I have been so irresponsible?
At breakfast, I got my milk and apple and found a quiet corner to sit and eat by myself. I watched sadly as all my friends gotToastStix and big chocolate chip muffins and orange juice. My apple and milk just wasn't the same. And it didn't fill up my belly at all – I was still starving! An apple is just not a good breakfast for a growing kid like me.
The rest of the morning, I had trouble focusing in class. All I could think about was how hungry I was and how I wouldn't be able to eat a real lunch or snack until I got home from school that afternoon. My friend Sammy even offered me a bite of her muffin but I didn't want to take it. I knew if I had one bite, I'd just want the whole thing for myself and then I'd feel even worse.
At lunchtime, I got a plain plastic tray with just a plain entrée and plain milk carton. No yummy pizza for me. No cookie. No juice box or bag of pretzels. Just a plain, sad lunch. As I sat alone
at the end of the lunch table, picking at my food, I made a promise to myself that I would never, ever forget my breakfast and lunch money again. This was just too awful!
Usually after lunch we have recess and I love running around and playing football with Tommy and the other guys. But today I just didn't have the energy. I felt weighed down like a heavy rock.
I sat by myself on a bench, feeling sorry for my stupid mistake and dreaming of all the good food I was missing out on.
When I finally got home that afternoon, I was a total grouch.
I was starving and mad at myself for ruining a perfectly good day. My mom could see right away that something was wrong. I explained what had happened and she got me a huge peanut butter and jelly sandwich that I gobbled down in three bites. Then I had an apple and some baby carrots and finally felt full again. Phew!
My mom gave me a big hug and said we all make mistakes sometimes and it's no biggie. She told me to put my backpack in the same spot by the front door every night before bed. That way, in the morning I could double-check that I had packed everything I need – my homework, my books, my snacks, and most importantly my breakfast and lunch money! If it's there waiting for me by the door, she said I'll never forget it again.
I felt so much better after talking to my mom about it. Moms really do make everything better, don't they? I realized it wasn't the end of the world that I forgot my money today. But I definitely don't want to let it happen again. One day of being hungry is bad enough – I don't think I could handle a whole week of sad apples and plain lunches!
Tomorrow is a new day and you can bet I'll double-check, triple-check, quadruple-check that I have my money for breakfast and lunch. A granola bar and juice box just isn't going to cut it for this growing third grader! I need fuel to power me through all my learning, running around at recess, and most of all, all my growing. Eating good food is precious when you're a kid. I'll never take it for granted again!

Uh-Oh, I Forgot My Breakfast Money!
Oh man, today was not a good day at all. I woke up feeling really hungry and excited because it was French Toast Sticks day in the cafeteria! Those are my absolute favorite. They're sweet and crunchy on the outside but soft and delicious on the inside. Whenever they're served, I make sure to get to school extra early
so I can be one of the first in line. The French Toast Sticks always go really fast.
I jumped out of bed, got dressed super quickly, and ran downstairs. My mom was still sipping her coffee and reading the newspaper. "Morning mom! Can I have some breakfast money for French Toast Sticks today?" I asked, practically bouncing up and down with excitement.
My mom looked up from her newspaper. "Sorry hon, I don't have any cash on me this morning. You'll have to ask your dad for money."
I sprinted into the living room where my dad was watching the news. "Dad! Dad! I need breakfast money for French Toast Sticks at school today!"
Dad shook his head. "Sorry champ, I don't have any either. We're running low on cash until payday next week."
My heart sank. No French Toast Sticks? This was an emergency! I ran back upstairs and checked under my bedroom mattress where I keep my piggy bank savings. I shook it upside down but not a single coin came out. I had spent my last quarter two weeks ago on a candy bar from the ice cream truck.
This was the worst news ever. How could this be happening?! I'm usually so prepared for French Toast Stick day. I started to feel tears welling up in my eyes, but I didn't want to seem like a crybaby in front of my parents. I'm a big kid now, almost eight years old. Big kids don't cry over stupid stuff like this, right?
I moped back downstairs, head hung low. "Don't worry kiddo, I'll pack you a healthy breakfast instead," my mom gave me a reassuring smile as she headed into the kitchen.
A few minutes later she handed me a brown paper bag. "Here you go, honey. Yogurt, a banana, a granola bar, and a juice box!"
Under normal circumstances, that would have been a pretty good breakfast, I guess. But on French Toast Stick day? Totally unacceptable! How was I supposed to enjoy a stupid granola bar while all my friends were chowing down on those crispy, cinnamony treats? Just thinking about it made me want to cry all over again.
The bus arrived before I could plead with my parents anymore. I sluggishly climbed the steps, the brown paper bag weighing a million pounds in my hands. I slumped into the first open seat, staring forlornly out the window as all the lucky
houses went by. Somewhere out there, other kids were eating French Toast Sticks for breakfast without a care in the world.
I was the first one at school, as always, even without French Toast Stick motivation. I barely said a word to my friends as they started trickling into the cafeteria, whipping out their lunch money and deciding where they wanted to sit for breakfast. I knew if I talked about the situation, I'd definitely start crying.
The lunch ladies started bringing out the French Toast Sticks and my stomach growled angrily. They looked and smelled more delicious than I could even remember! The lunch ladies always put them in a special basket instead of just slopping them onto people's trays. It wasn't fair that I couldn't have any just because of a silly money situation.
I watched in agony as each of my friends got their French Toast Stick filled tray. Samuel always got four sticks because he's absolutely obsessed with them. Ashley got two sticks and a chocolate milk since she's a girl and doesn't eat quite as much as the boys. Jeremy got three sticks but then went back for one more because his parents gave him extra quarters. I seriously thought I might throw up from hunger pains right there.
Finally, my best friend Michael was the last one in line. He ordered his usual two French Toast Sticks, grabbed a carton of milk, and came over to sit next to me.
"Hey, aren't you gonna-" He started to say before noticing the brown paper bag in front of me. He instantly knew what had happened. "Aw man, no way! Your parents forgot to give you breakfast money too?"
I shook my head sadly and he gave me a reassuring pat on the back. "Tell you what, you can have one of my French Toast Sticks if you want. I'm not that hungry anyway."
He slid one of the French Toast Sticks onto my tray before I even had a chance to object. A huge wave of relief washed over me. Michael was literally the best friend anyone could ever ask for! I eagerly tore off one of the delicious fried bread sticks and shoved it into my mouth.
It was absolute heaven. The crunchy cinnamon coating, the soft warm interior, it was better than I had even imagined. If my parents had given me money, I probably would have wolfed down three or four sticks without really savoring each。
