I must have looked deep in thought, or as deep in thought as an 11-year-old man can, when my grandmother glanced up from her weeding to ask, “You have something on your mind, don’t you?”
“Yes, I was thinking that someday I want to be an Olympic speed skating champion like my hero, Eric Heiden. I want to be a doctor like my parents and I want to help children in Africa. ”
I immediately knew I had confided in the right person when a knowing smile broke across her face. “Johann, of course! You can do anything you want to do!” she said si mply. And with my grandmother’s support, I set out to pursue my passions.
14 years later, I was well ready to take hold of my first dream: becoming an Olympic champion. The Olympics in 1994 were in my home country, Norway. As I entered the Olympic stadium, I wasn’t the best athlete, and many had doubts about my ability to perform well. But I had something special working for me. I had a woman in the first row who believed in me following my passions just as much as
I did. For the first time ever, my grandmother was going to see me skate.
It happened. Breaking a world record, I won the gold.
As I stood on the podium(领奖台) that I had dreamed about my entire life, a curious question popped into my head. Why me? Why did I win, given all the other incredible competitors out there? The reason had to be more than a grandmother who shared a belief in her grandson’s dream. The question led me to only one answer: because I wanted to make a difference in the world, and with all the media attention on my success, I could.
I immediately knew what that difference had to be: hope in the lives of the children in Africa. Six months earlier, I’d been invited to Eritrea as an ambassador for Olympic Aid.

The oldest of the fou r bridges that rest over Venice’s Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge sits proudly in the busiest part of the floating city. Visitors can enjoy its striking architecture, visit the souvenir(纪念品) stalls(货摊),and breathe in Rialto’s lively atmosphere.
If you’re only seeking the Rialto Bridge, it’s best to avoid the crowds. The area is always busy, but early in the morning it is less busy — or late at night when the markets are shut.
Sunset is a beautiful time to visit, with the southern side of the bridge offering a glorious view of the gondolas(凤尾船) pulling up to the grand buildings lining the canal.
The busiest time on the bridge is from mid-morning, when the day trippers arrive, to the late afternoon. The stalls are moving slowly with customers and it can get a little uncomfortable in the heat.

free samples(样品) by the sellers.

If you’re there in winter, you’ll have a much quieter emer. This is when the bridge is decorated with twinkling lights and is a particularly pretty experience.

Li Hua 第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
If you’ve heard people say they are having “high tea” in some eart hotel lobby, you can smile to yourself, knowing that “high tea” is seldom served to tourists with fancy lodging.
“High tea” doesn’t refer to the “fancy” fixings, the elegant silver, the pure-white table linens, or the luxury surroundings of a high-class salon. It is actually the main meal of the day, served between 6:00 and 7:00.The “high” in the phrase
comes from th e time of the day, meaning “late” or “high” in the afternoon.
For a long time, the lower and middle classes could afford only one meal per day. In order to make it through to the neain meal would be taken after work and would consist of anything from the remnants of lunch to the very basic food staples of the time:a slice of bread, a hunk of cheese, a piece of sausage, all of which were eaten while drinking their evening tea. However, as the country advanced, the common people got wealthier, and evening meals began to be supplemented with heavier foods like roast beef, fish, eggs, vegetables, and potatoes.
Sometimes referred to as a “meat tea” , or a “ham tea”,the term “high tea” has been replaced with the modern equivalent of dinner.
In contrast, “low tea”,or “afternoon tea” is served earlier in the afternoon, usually between 4:00 and 5:00. Originally started by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, the tradition began when Anna needed a little sustenance to tide her over. Tidbits were served with tea, and Anna invited friends to share conversation over these small snacks before the affair of the evening meal.
In reality, people who have beautiful “teas” with fancy pastries and cakes nowadays, are partaking of the “low tea” or “light tea” that began so many years ago in Anna’s time.
While the refreshments are pretty, they are “light” and the
emphasis of the “afternoon tea” is on the presentation of the tea, and the conversation of the guests.
