What are the features of Washington Irving’s writing style? 华盛顿·欧文
There are quite a few striking（显著的）features which characterize（辨别：成为区别性特征或标记；突出）Irving’s writing.
1) Irving avoids moralizing（说教）as much as possible; he wrote to amuse （娱乐，消遣）and entertain, which depends on no small extent from the basic principles of his Puritan(清教徒) forebears（祖先）;
2) Then he is good at enveloping（包住）his stories in an atmosphere, the richness of which is often more than compensation（补偿）for the slimness （减肥）of plot;
3) His characters are vivid and true so that they tend to linger in the mind of the reader;
4) The humor that has built itself into the very texture（结构）of his writings is such that reading him, it is difficult not to smile and occasionally even chuckle （轻笑或自笑）;
5) And his finished and musical language and the patent workmanship have been among the points of critical attention for a long time.。
