“Be proud of what you do,” my father always told me, “whether you are a boss or a cleaner”. When I was 15, I got a summer job in a hospital. I was told that my duties would include sweeping floors. I smiled and remembered Dad’s words. Even though my job was the lowest, it made me feel excited. I saw it as a challenge because it was my first job. I learned to be on time and tried to do everything well. In return, I was treated with respect by doctors, nurses and patients. Each morning I imagined that the dirty dishes would make patients more sick if I were not there to wash them clean. After breakfast was done, I started sweeping the floors of all patient rooms and cleaning the toilets. Though I was tired, I wanted the job to be done well. Hearing people say “That young boy really does a good job”, I was filled with pride.
Working in the hospital taught me that being proud of one’s job is important. It does not matter whether the job is sweeping floors or managing a large business. Through every job I have ever had, my father’s words have always
stayed with me. I was a good cleaner, and now I’m a good manager. I think Dad would be proud of me all the time.

Can you imagine a world without music? Studies show that public schools across the country are cutting back on music classes to save money. Worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students’ academic growth and emotional health could suffer. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies by Brown University have shown that students who received music education classes were better in maths and reading skills than those without music classes. Another study by the College Board found that students taking music and art classes got higher points. Students’ academic success seems to depend on their taking part in music education.
Music programs in public schools also help to add to a students sense of pride and self-confidence. Teens today have too many learning tasks. Besides, they have family problems, self-confidence problems, relationship troubles, and other troubles. All of these can stop academic success, but music education can help. A study by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse found that students who took part in school music programs were less likely to turn to drugs. Music programs encourage students to work together to produce an excellent performance.
Music crosses language, class, cultural and political boundaries. Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example, at a school talent show, a new Japanese student played a piano duet with an American classmate. Although they could not communicate verbally, they were able to read the music in order to play the duet. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with self-confidence and common purpose through music.
The gift of music is priceless. We need to be sure to have necessary music classes for all students. The world is losing its music, and putting music into schools is the first step to get it back.
28. What can we learn about education with music classes?
A. It allows schools to make more profits.
B. It leads to a lot of emotional problems easily.
C. It helps students to improve their schoolwork.
D. It has a great influence on the culture of the country.
29. What do the two studies seem to show?
A. Not all students take part in music lessons.
B. Students with great success like to attend music lessons.
C. Music plays an important role in students’ success.
D. Students having music classes are better in all lessons.
30. The example in Paragraph 4 mainly suggests that ______.
A. different cultures have different styles of music
B. music makes cross-country communication possible
C. Japan has a good international relationship with America
D. Japanese and American students are good at playing the piano
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. How to Get Music Back
B. Music Education in Schools
C. Music-a Bridge to Understanding
D. The Importance of Listening to Music
D
Technology use seems to be the new wave of addiction hitting people of all ages. Its extreme use can be compared to the use of drugs, which is called Plug-in Heroin.
The next time you’re in a crowded public place, look at the people around you. It’s hard to find someone who isn’t glued to the tiny screen, fingers moving at lightning speeds, texting their friends, emailing co-workers or listening to music. It may seem ridiculous that someone is that addicted to such a small object. I’ve seen people who seem to be at their wits’ end(不知所措) if their phone or iPad has been taken away, lost or left at home.
Some people may ask, “What’s wrong with technology use ? It’s a way for people to communicate.” While this is true, the overuse of technology isn’t always appropriate in certain settings. Schools are becoming stricter about the use of cell phones, iPads and other electronics in classrooms. Various workplaces have signs hanging on their walls warning employees that “Cell phone use is not permitted” or “Cell phones are forbidden.”
Electronics may be a way for people to communicate and stay in touch with each other, but the disadvantages may outweigh the benefits. People are losing the ability to hold face-to-face conversations with others. However, it’s hard to avoid electronics in this day and age because almost everything is turning into an electronic format. Books, originally meant for paper design, are now being transferred(转存) to electronic forms. Photo albums, and even yearbooks, can now be viewed via the internet. With this growing trend, future generations are bound to become even more addicted to technology.
Is there a cure for electronic addiction? Simply turning electronics off for an hour or two a day may help to an extent, but it will not completely rid electronic addiction. There only seems to be one cure left, and it may be the hardest: self control.
32. What is Plug-in Heroin?
A. The growing popularity of electronics.
B. The unreasonable dependence on electronics.
C. The serious consequences of technology use.
D. The future possibility of technology development.
33. The second paragraph is intended to ______.
A. show people’s addiction to electronics
B. persuade people to quit electronics
C. prove electronics are harmful to people
D. tell people it is ridiculous to use electronics
34. Why is it difficult to avoid electronics nowadays?
A. Fewer choices are left for communication.
B. The design of paper books is less interesting.
C. It is a must to use electronics to keep in touch.
D. Too many things are available in electronic forms.
35. In the author’s opinion, what is the best way to cure electronic addiction?
A. Turn off the electronics for an hour or two.
B. Be stricter about the use of cell phones, iPads and other electronics in classrooms.
C. Learn to control yourself.
D. Cell phones are forbidden in the workplaces.

第二节书面表达(共25分)
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
How is it going recently? I’m sorry to know that you’re having trouble in making friends. Here are some tips for you.
To begin with, be friendly to others and get on with them frankly if you want to make friends. In addition, you should share happiness and sorrow with them. A saying goes that a friend in need is a friend indeed. When misunderstanding occurs, you should apologise to your friend as long as it is your fault. Lastly, wouldn’t it be a good idea if you put yourself in others’ shoes? As is known to all, friendship calls for time and effort.
I hope you will find these ideas useful.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua。
