John Milton was a literary of the 17th century and a great part of his life was connected with the English Revolution. Paradise Lost is a long epic poem. The theme is the fall of the men: man's disobedience and the loss thereupon of Paradise. Paradise Lost is attractive for its unique grand style. The author wrote it in epics so that readers can appreciate in the view of poem. It is simple and free. In this pattern, author can express his emotions easily and readers can have the same ideas of author. It likes that readers are talking with author. A classical work has not only grand style but also vivid content. Milton connected the two things very well. The characters in this book are not some average people but God, Satan, Adam and so on. They are not the real people in our life. They lived in our mind. It is very difficult to write them. However, Milton did a good job, especially in Satan. In this epic poem Satan was the most portrayed character. He was evil, rebellious, courageous, heroic and tragic. According to this book, we can find that t he keystone of Milton’s creed is the freedom of the will.。
