第三节阅读理解 (共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)
A
Jill suffered heart problems. In conversation he expressed little joy and it seemed that his life was drawing to a close.
When his heart problems led to operation, Jill went through it successfully, and a full recovery was expected. Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly. Jill was rushed back to operation, but nothing was found to explain the cause of his illness. He died on the operating table on the day before his 48th birthday.
Dr. Bruce Smaller, a psychologist (心理学家), had had many conversations with him, and the more he learned, the stranger he realized Jill's case was. When Jill was a child, his father, a teacher, suffered a heart attack and stayed home to recover. One morning Jill asked his father to look over his homework, promising to come home from school at noon to pick it up. His father agreed, but when Jill returned his father had died. Jill's father was 48.
"I think all his life Jill believed he killed his father," Dr. Smaller says. "He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived. Jill had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial(判决) he had expected for forty years." Smaller believes that Jill willed himself not to live to the age of 48.
Jill's case shows the powerful role that attitude (态度) plays on physical health, and that childhood experiences produce far-reaching effect on the health of grown-ups. Although most cases are less direct than Jill's, studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness.
46. What made Dr. Smaller feel strange about Jill's case?
A. Jill died at a young age.
B. Jill died on the operating table.
C. Both Jill and his father died of the same disease.
D. Jill's death is closely connected with his father's.
47. From Smaller’s words, we can infer that__________.
A. Jill's father cared little about his study
B. Smaller agreed that Jill did kill his father
C. Jill thought he would be punished some day
D. Smaller believed Jill wouldn't live to the age of 48
48. Which of the following could have strong effects on one's physical health according to the text.
a. One's genes.
b. One's life in childhood.
c. One's physical education.
d. The date of one's birthday.

All you need to participate in(参加) home exchange is a house! You don't need to compare values of the houses or search for a swapping (交换) partner in the case of a home similar to yours. It just requires identifying a home where you and your family can stay comfortably in the place you wish to visit. Home exchanges have become very popular in major cities in the United Kingdom as it allows you to benefit from time-share. Mostly, people participating in home exchanges prefer to involve their friends or neighbors to entertain their visitors, by providing the home exchange visitors with information regarding the local sightseeing attractions. Many families with children try to swap houses with families who have children of the similar age group. An earthquake can often cause damage. And although not all earthquakes are severe(严重), they help people to be aware of the proper way to prepare for such an event. Your level of preparation can directly affect your chance of survival.
If you are outdoors, find an open area free of trees and tall buildings. If you are driving when an earthquake hits, slow down and stop in a clear place and stay in your car. Do not park near buildings or under bridges.
If you are indoors, you must protect yourself from falling objects by finding a safe place in your home and protecting your body as much as possible. If you are in bed when the shaking starts, cover your head with a pillow. Also, you should fasten all possible objects to a wall, paying special attention to tall furniture. This will reduce the chance of the objects falling on top of someone and causing injury. A good way to protect yourself from possible falling debris(碎片)during an earthquake is to hide under something. This most often means a heavy table or desk which is large enough. It is important for you to know these areas before an earthquake. Make sure that all the family members know the best place to hide themselves in each area of the house.
If you live in the place where earthquakes are possible, make sure you have ways to tell your family members your condition. All family members and friends should know how to get in touch with you after an earthquake. This will stop many people worrying about you and trying to get
through to you after such a disaster. It is especially important for families with young children to practice what to do in an earthquake. Make sure your family has a plan of action, and decide a meeting place to go to after the earthquake. In an earthquake which causes great damage, it is important to have items on hand, water, food, medicine, a flashlight and so on. It is also wise to be prepared by taking a first-aid class to learn something useful for a possible disaster.
