There are three kinds of goals: short-term, intermediate and long-term goals.Short-term goals are those that usually deal with present activities.Such goals can be achieved in a week or two, or possible months. It should be remembered that just as a building is no stronger than its foundation (基础), our long-term goals cannot be achieved without the achievement of solid short-term goals.Upon completing our short-term goals, we should date the time and then add new short-term goals that will build on those that have been completed.
The intermediate goals build on the foundation of the short-term goals. They might deal with just one term of school or the entire school years, or they could extend for several years.Any time you move a step at a time, you never allow yourself to become discouraged. As you complete each step, you will have more belief in your ability to grow and succeed.
Long-term goals may be related to our dreams of future. They might cover five years or more.Life is not a static (静态的) thing. We should never allow a long-term goal to limit us or our course of action.

In the United States, 30 percent of the adult (成年人) population has a “weight problem”.To many people, the case is clear: we eat too much. But scientific evidence(证据)does little to support the idea.Going back to the America of 1910, we find that people were thinner than today.Yet they ate more food.In those days, people worked harder physically, walked more, used machines much less, and didn’t watch TV.
Several modern studies, moreover, have shown that fat people do not eat more on average (平均) than thinner people. In fact, some investigations (调查), such as a 1990 study of 3,545 London office workers, show that fatter people eat less than slimmer people.Studies show that slim people are more active than fat people.A study by a research group of Stanford University School of Medicine found the following interesting facts:
The more the men ran, the more fat they lost.
The more they ran, the more they ate.
Thus, those who ran the most ate the most, yet lost the greatest amount of body fat.68.What kind of physical problem do many adult Americans have?

As a boy, Charles Robert Darwin collected anything that caught his interest: insects, coins and interesting stones. He was not very clever, but Darwin was good at doing the things that interested him.

As the Beagle sailed around the world, Darwin began to wonder how life had developed on earth. He began to observe everything. After he was home, he set to work, getting his collection in order. His first great work The Zoology of the Beagle was well received, but he was slow to make public his ideas on the origin of life.
Later Darwin and Wallace, another naturalist who had the same opinions as Darwin, produced a paper together.Darwin’s great book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection (《物种起源》) appeared. It attracted a storm.People thought that Darwin was saying they were descended from monkeys. What a shameful idea! Although most scientists agreed that Darwin
was right, the Church was still so strong that Darwin never received any honors for his work.Afterwards, he published another great work, The Descent of Man.His health grew worse, but he still worked.“When I have to give up observation, I shall die,” he said.He was still working on 17, April, 1882.He was dead two days later.

作文:
Recently there is a heated debate among people on the division of arts and science in senior high school.Different people hold different opinions about it.
Those who support the idea of division think that the division is beneficial to students, who can make full use of their advantages to develop their personalities fully. At the same time, the division can also reduce students’ burden of studies, allowing them to spend more time on what they are really interested in.
However, the opponents argue that the division can impede the overall development of students, leading to the lack of basic knowledge of arts and science which is needed in our daily life.In my opinion, I think the division is good for us since there are so many subjects to learn and it is difficult to master so much knowledge.I can learn better because of the division.( In my point of view, I don’t approve of the division because it can narrow our knowledge, which makes us lose the competitiveness in face of our opponents.)。
