第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)When did you last see a polar bear? On a trip to a zoo, perhaps? If you had attended a winter activity in New York a few years ago, you would have seen a whole polar bear club. These “Polar Bears” are people who meet frequently in the winter to swim in freezing cold water. That day, the air temperature was 3℃, and the water temperature was a little higher. The members of the Polar Bear Club at Coney Island, New York are usually about the age of 60. Members must satisfy two requirements. First, they must get along well with everyone else in the group. This is very important because there are so many different kinds of people in the club. Polar Bears must also agree to swim outdoors at least twice a month from November through February.
Doctors do not agree about the medical effects of cold-winter swimming. Some are worrie d about the dangers of a condition in which the body’s temperature drops so low that finally the heart stops. Other doctors, however, point out that there is more danger of a heart attack during summer swimming because the difference between the air temperature and water temperature is much greater in summer than in winter.
The Polar Bears themselves are satisfied with the benefits (or advantages) of
cold-water swimming. They say that their favorite form of exercise is very good for the circulatory system (循环系统) because it forces the blood to move fast to keep the body warm. Cold-water swimmers usually turn bright red after a few minutes in the water. A
person who turns blue probably has a very poor circulatory system and should not try cold-water swimming.
The main benefits (or advantages) of cold-water swimming are probably mental. The Polar Bears love to swim all year round. They find it fun and relaxing. As one
70-year-old woman says. “When I go into water, I pour my troubles into the ocean and let them f loat away.”
1、The members of the Polar Bear Club must meet the following requirements EXCEPT that .
A.they must reach the age of 60
B.they should be easy to make friends with
C.they must swim outdoors at least 8 times in the four cold months
D.they must agree to swim outdoors from November through February
2、According to the passage, some doctors believe it is true that .
A.you are healthy if cold-water swimming turns your skin color blue
B.cold-water swimming causes more heart attacks in summer than in winter
C.cold-water swimming can make the body temperature dangerously high
D.Polar Bears are bears swimming in freezing water
3、The Polar Bears like to swim all the year round, for .
A.they can remain young
B.it is an easy way to keep the body warm in winter
C.they find it enjoyable and interesting
D.they might meet fewer troubles in life
22.(8分)David was about 8 when he learned how to swim. He got so good that he eventually picked up free diving, a sport where divers hold their breath until resurfacing instead of using breathing equipment. He never imagined nearly two decades later he would come to use that skill in such a way.
It is an extraordinary act of courage, but to have the moment caught on camera for the world to see is something else entirely. The scene was filmed by someone on the same boat and was put online. The video was shared immediately by national and global media.
That August day began with David boating around with his friends. They spotted a woman driving a bright red Mazda heading right into high water. David and his crew
tried to warn her to stop, but by then it was too late, and the car had already slid under water.
In the moments before David jumped into those muddy flood waters to tear the roof off the car with his bare hands, hi s thought process was short. In fact, he didn’t have one.
“The car was sinking fast,” David says. “There was no time to think. It had to be done.”
Up until recently, David hadn’t reunited with the woman he saved. He was perfectly fine with saving a stranger and remaining unknown to her.
Still to this day, even after the attention the video received, after the media from all over the globe landed on his front yard, David doesn’t think it a big deal. “I think I was just lucky,” David says, smiling. “I happened to be at the right place at the right time.”
1、177.What did David do on that August day?
A.He picked up free diving. B.He rescued a woman.
C.He drove into the water. D.He filmed a video.
2、179.Why did the media land on his front yard?
A.To take photos of his yard. B.To make a deal with him.
C.To keep an eye on him. D.To dig for more about him.
3、181.What kind of person is David?
A.Ambitious. B.Considerate. C.Modest. D.Conservative.
23.(8分)Adolescence, the period of a child’s life when they are most vulnerable to outside influences, is a relatively scary time for parents. Children of this age become the target of many negative influences while at the same time they are experiencing hormones that are raging out of control.
But parents should not be fooled by their children’s rejection and rudeness. In fact children expect the constant support, guidance, and influence from their parents.
I came from a family where anger always lies just below the surface, waiting for an excuse to erupt. My parents often said that my sisters and I could tell them anything. Though they promised not to be angry at whatever we would say, they couldn’t do it. Without the emotional support from my parents during my most vulnerable years, I often found myself losing my temper easily and even doing risky behaviors.
There is no certain standard about parenting, but I knew exactly what I should not
do after I became a parent. I knew the importance of establishing open communication and trust, which resulted in my proper reactions and my children’s trust.
Our home w as a quiet place, a shelter for my children’s emotional well-being. My children freely shared with me what happened in their lives, whether good or bad, shocking or humorous. As their mother, I rarely raised my voice and my reactions to their telling about their improper behaviors remained calm, no matter how I felt inside.
Parenting I did was far from easy. It took patience, persistence, and consistency. Everyone hopes for beautiful relationships with their children, and everyone can have them. The theory is simple: trust is the lock---communication is the key.

C.Hurt D.Careless
3、How did the author gain trust when communicating with her children?

C.By demanding much of them D.By controlling her reactions
4、The text is mainly intended to tell us __________.
A.the need of riding anger at home
B.the ways of parenting adolescents
C.the importance of supporting children
D.the benefit of building good relationships with children
