向外国友人介绍中国的春节英语作文
Introducing the Fantastic Chinese New Year to My Foreign Friends
Hi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I'm from China and today I want to tell you all about the most exciting festival we celebrate – Chinese New Year! It's also called the Spring Festival and it's the grandest and most important celebration in Chinese culture. Get ready to be amazed!
Chinese New Year is a time of great joy, beautiful decorations, delicious foods, and wonderful traditions passed down through thousands of years. It's a festival filled with symbols of good luck, prosperity, and happiness. The celebration usually starts on the first day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar and lasts for about 15 days, ending on the 15th day with the Lantern Festival. But the preparations and excitement begin weeks before!
One of the first things we do is give our homes a thorough cleaning, sweeping away any bad luck from the old year. We decorate our houses with red lanterns, red couplets with poetic words, and paper cutouts. Red is the main color because it's bright and represents good fortune and joy. We also decorate
with upside-down fu symbols, which means happiness is arriving!
My favorite part is when my whole family gets together for the annual reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. We gather around steam hotpots or huge tables piled high with mouth-watering dishes like dumplings, noodles, fish, chicken, and so many other goodies. We enjoy each other's company while feasting until we're totally stuffed! After dinner, kids like me get red envelopes filled with lucky money from our parents and grandparents. Staying up late to watch the grand annual TV gala show is another New Year's Eve tradition.
When I wake up on New Year's Day, I put on my new clothes and hear the thundering sounds of firecrackers going off everywhere! The loud sounds are meant to scare away any evil spirits and welcome in the new year with fresh energy. Then we exchange traditional New Year's greetings like "Gong Xi Fa Cai" which means "Congratulations and be prosperous!"
Over the next two weeks, we visit relatives and friends, giving gifts like tangerines and candies which symbolize generating wealth and sweeping away bitterness. Elders give kids like me red envelopes with money inside, wishing us a year of growth and wisdom. Special holiday TV programs keep us
entertained at home with dancing lions, dragons, fireworks, and comedy shows.
One exciting event is watching or joining in folk arts performances. There are amazing acrobats, mask-changing actors, dragon and lion dances, drum shows, and more. These shows tell ancient stories through dance and movement and bring good luck for the coming year.
On the 15th day, the Lantern Festival marks the final celebration with brilliant lantern displays lighting up the streets. There are lantern riddles to solve, tasty tang yuan rice balls to eat, and wishes to make under the bright full moon. Sometimes contests are held for the most creative lanterns.
As you can see, Chinese New Year is a spectacular festival overflowing with symbolic traditions, vibrant performances, delicious foods, and abundant joy shared with loved ones. It celebrates the coming of spring, fresh beginnings, and expresses our hopes for good luck and happiness in the new year. No matter where we are, this time brings me and all Chinese people together in our hearts to honor our rich culture. I hope you enjoyed learning about my favorite holiday and maybe you can experience it for yourself one day!。
