We are a happy family looking for a cheerful, reliable person to provide flexible help as a live—in au pair (换工) for a minimum of 3 months, although we would prefer 6—12 months。

We would like this person to start at the end of August. We are an English-speaking family but my husband is fluent in Spanish and we are keen to have a Spanish speaker to help our children speak Spanish. A basic to good level of spoken English is required to ensure easy communication with the children and myself.
We have a nice four-bedroom house with a garden in a well-located part of London called Willesden Green. You would have your own room with a TV and unlimited WiFi。

We would provide room and board。

In return we would require 30 hours of help a week over 5 days Monday-Friday which includes one night of babysitting a week。

Typically, each morning between 7 am-9 am, we would like you to help get the boys —aged 6 months and 2 years old —dressed and fed。

Between 5 pm—7:30 pm, the 2 years old would need collecting from the
child-minder (儿童保育员) and we would require help during dinnertime, and bedtime routine。

This could mean preparing and clearing up the kids' meals, or feeding the baby a bottle or reading stories.
If you are interested, please reply with a statement about why you are suitable for this role。

I will need two
references that I can check. You will need to be legally able to work in the UK and must be a non-smoker。

When I was 13 years of age, my parents and I visited an eye doctor. As I sat in the examination chair, the doctor looked into my eyes, shining a bright light.“She did inherit it,”he said with coldness。

“You need to be prepared。

There is no cure for this disease.”
Fifteen years after my initial diagnosis, my father began to lose his eyesight and so did I。

He was 55 years
old, but I was only 28. In a matter of two years, we had both lost our sight completely.
My father had given me not just the RP gene, but the example of determination and patience as well. We were all living in Bolivia in 1964 when he moved to America regardless of the family’s opposition. He worked
tirelessly to satisfy the requirements set by the U.S。

Immigration Department to enter the country and establish residency.
Once in the United States, he overcame shame, intense loneliness, helplessness and uncertainty。

He
suffered ridicule due to his lack of fluency in English, but he pressed on. And he managed to gather enough money for the basics —rent a small apartment, buy modest furniture from second—hand goods stores and make an initial payment for a car。

Nine months later, he sent airline tickets for my mom, my brother and me.
Decades later, as an American citizen, I look back at what he showed me. He taught me the determination to move forward when facing misfortune。

He set an example proving that modesty is the key to success. He showed me what commitment to family meant and the importance of setting priorities(优先事项)。

I did the same as I stepped into the unfamiliarity of a sightless world。

I gained confidence and learned the
language of gratitude。

With great appreciation for my father’s example, I learned how he had applied a
powerful mixture of faith and determination, the same mixture I used to fulfill my own role as a wife, mom,
Sunday school teacher, Spanish court interpreter, inspirational speaker and writer.

Ankle sprains are the most common sports—related injuries in the United States。

If there was an easy way of decreasing the number and severity of these injuries, that would be great. For this very reason, the practice of taping and bracing ankles(缠绷带和戴护踝)was introduced decades ago。

How, then, do taped or braced ankles decrease the incidence and severity of sprains in athletes? One explanation for how it works comes from a study which found that taped athletes had improved proprioception, which is the body’s ability to know how fast the ankle and foot are moving and if they are starting to roll over or not。

When they were compared, the athletes with taped ankles had better proprioception both before and after exercise compared with athletes using no tape。

The tape's traction (拉力)or pressure on the skin of the foot and ankle helped improve sensory input and proprioception, resulting in fewer ankle sprains。

Another common concern often expressed by the public is that lengthened practice of taping or bracing
ankles results in weak ankles that then tend to get injured more easily; this would obviously be a strong case against taping or bracing ankles. However, another scientific study looked at the effects of consistent ankle brace use on the peroneus longus muscle(腓骨长肌)。

It is an important stabilizer(稳定装置)of the ankle, particularly against inversion, the most common type of ankle injury. This study showed that the peroneus longus muscle’s ability to do its job was not changed by the long—term wearing of an ankle brace.
Many studies have been completed to compare taping ankles and bracing ankles to try to determine
which one is better. Most have shown that braces are slightly more effective than tape, but that both are better
than no support at all. One study found that simply wearing high—top sneakers instead of low—tops prevented
some ankle injuries and that high—tops plus tape had more than 50% fewer injuries than low-tops plus tape.
So whether it’s on the field or on the court, the tape or brace is an important piece of athletic equipment just like your helmet or mouth guard。

29。

In Paragraph 2, the study’s two participant groups differed in whether they _____.
A. used the
tape
B. were athletes
C。

had sprained their
ankle
D. had better proprioception
30。

What is a worry for many people?
A。

It is difficult to tape or brace the ankle。

B。

Weak ankles are more likely to get injured。

C. Constant tape or brace use may be harmful.
D。

Taping or bracing ankles will cost too much.
31。

What did the study find according to Paragraph 3?
A. Why inversion often takes
place.
B. It is OK to brace the ankle frequently.
C。

The tape helps keep the ankle steady.
D. How the peroneus longus muscle works。

32. Which of the following will be the most helpful in preventing ankle sprains?
A. High-top
sneakers.
B. Low-top sneakers.
C。

High—top sneakers plus
tape。

D. Low-top sneakers plus tape

Do you want to love what you do for a living? Follow your passion。

This piece of advice provides the foundation for modern thinking on career satisfaction. But this can be a problem。

I’ve spent the past several years researching and writing about the different strategies we use to seek happiness in our work. It became clear early in the process that the suggestion to “follow your passion” ha d some mistakes, for it lacks scientific evidence。

However, it doesn't mean you should abandon the goal of feeling passionate about your work。

The reality emphasizes that things are quite complicated.
Passion is earned。

Different people are looking for different things in their work, but generally, people with satisfying careers enjoy some combination of the following features: autonomy, respect, competence, creativity, and a sense of impact。

In other words, if you want to feel passionate about your livelihood, don't seek the perfect job, but seek to get more of these features in the job you already have.
Passion is elusive。

Many people develop the rare and valuable skills leading to passion, but still end up unhappy in their work. The problem is that the features leading you to love your work are more likely to be useful to you than your organization. As you become increasingly “valuable”, for example, your boss might push you toward traditional promotions that come with more pay and more responsibility, as this is what is most useful to your company. However, you might find more passion by applying your value to gain autonomy in your schedule or project selection。

Passion is dangerous. I’ve watched too many of my peers fall into anxiety and constant job—hopp ing due to the “follow your passion” advice。

The issue is expectations. If you believe we all have a pre-existing passion, and that matching it to a job will lead to instant workplace happiness, reality will always pale in comparison。

Work is hard。

Not eve ry day is fun. If you’re seeking a dream job, you'll end up disappointed, again and again。

Don’t set out to discover passion。

Instead, set out to develop it。

This path might be longer and more complicated than what most cheerful career guides might support, but it's a path much more likely to lead you somewhere worth going。

33. People satisfied with their careers are ______。

A. autonomous and passionate B。

creative and competent
C. respectable and sensitive D。

creative and passionate
34。

The underlined sentence in paragraph 5 probably means that ______.
A。

it is not easy to match our passion with our jobs
B。

we shouldn’t think everyone has a pre—existing passion
C。

high expectations of passion in jobs bring disappointment
D. workplace happiness does not require a pre—existing passion
35。

What is the author’s advice on achieving career satisfaction?
A。

Developing passion for what one is doing.
B。

Matching the pre-existing passion to one’s work。

C。

Figuring out early what one will do in the future。

D. Discovering skills that lead to interesting careers.

Manager,
I am an exchange student from China. Yesterday, I went to your cinema to see a film。

The film was very well, but I did not enjoy it because there were some problem in the cinema。

First, the film was delayed as there were so much advertisements at the beginning。

It was rather annoyed. Second, the sound of the film was too loud
that I could hardly bear。

The EXIT signs could not be seen clearly, that presented potential safety concerns. If something terrible must happen, it will be difficult for people to get out quickly. As a visitor to your city, I am disappointed with my experience in your cinema。

I am writing a letter in the hope that you can consider on these problems and make more improvement.
Yours,
Li Hua
