1.Making Enquiries
You are a large chain of retailers and are looking for a manufacturer to supply you with a wide range of sweaters for teenager. You were impressed by the selection of sweaters that were displayed on the stand of Sanders Company at the Trade Fair held in Birmingham last week. So you enquire the manager of the exporting department of the Sanders Company asking for illustrated catalogue, price list and samples. The manager gives the quotation as:

Admen Series USD 14.5 each item FOB Shanghai
2.Negotiating Price
Your customer is considering placing an order of 5,000 cases of canned fruits, but he thinks your price is higher than the other suppliers. You ask him to consider the good quality of your product and the rising market trend of the canned fruits. You might reduce the price to 2% on the condition that he would increase the size of the order to 10,000 cases. He asks for a 2% commission, for it will be easier for him to push the sales. He intends to have some special orders, you accept the order, but charge him extra money for the special service.
3.Placing Order
A Canadian businessman wants to place a trial order of 800 sets of
Z09 Massage Chair. You tell him that your minimum order is 1,000 set.
2,000 sets will be considered a large shipment and 5% reduction off the original price will be made. 2 months later, this businessman wants to place another 2,000 sets of Z09. But the stock of is insufficient to meet the requirement. He asks you to urge the manufacturer to speed up production. You offer to approach the suppliers and see if they are in a position to meet the requirement.

Smith & Son Company in New York intends to import some products from China National Metal & Minerals Imp. & Exp. Corp. The importer suggests D/P payment because the order is small and the profits are little. But the exporter insists L/C payment because it is the first order from the Smith & Son Company and you need the protection from the bank. The importer suggest to make payment by half L/C and half D/P, the exporter refuses the suggestion but agree to allow a 3% commission and early shipment to help with the turnover of the importer.
5.Packing
Miss Kazuko from Hiroshima is at the trade fair, and she is going to place a large order to buy your company’s bamboo wares. She is not
sure what kind of packing would be suitable for the bamboo wares.
Now you discuss with her about the packing.
6.Shipping and Insurance
Miss Kazuko has ordered a total of $50,000 worth of your bamboo wares on CIF Hiroshima terms. She wants to make the delivery within
30 days. You think you don’t have enough time to meet the date. She
neither accepts any partial shipment. You ask her coverage of insurance. She wants you to take out insurance against All Risks for 120% of the invoice value with insurance you both agreed. Now you are negotiating with her.
