Nuclear energy, go on or not?
When talk about energy, which one comes to you first? Solar energy, subterranean heat, coal, or petroleum? However, we can’t ignore the newest kind of energy, nuclear energy.
As is known for all, the crisis at the damaged Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Station in northern Japan has raised worries about radiation risks, which at the same time raised a hot debate about the use of nuclear power all over the world. At this special time, which side shall we be on? Nuclear energy, go on or not?
In my point of view, we should not stop our steps of researching and utilizing nuclear power only because of the crisis. Here are several main reasons.
To start with, I’d like to mention some merits of nuclear energy. Firstly, it is quite efficient that one ton of uranium produces more energy than which produced by several million tons of coal or barrels of oil. Besides, nuclear is clean and do less harm to our earth. The process of running a nuclear power plant generates virtually no CO2.
On the grounds that the Japanese nuclear crisis is so scary that we have to say nuclear energy can be really dangerous. Nuclear power is to other kinds of energy what airplane is to other transportations. Even though the airplane is regarded as the safeties kind of transportations, once there is an accident, almost no one can survive.
And if there is something wrong with the nuclear power plant, it can turn into a horrible disaster. However, it is one thing to develop nuclear energy, it is quite another to make a bomb in a nuclear energy plant. Of course there may be danger or other unforeseeable kinds of trouble; we can’t give it up that easily. Now let’s take stock for example. If you get some money, you can invest in the stock market, taking risk of losing them all. Or you can just deposit them in a bank, in which way you can have them kept safe but won’t get much profit.Besides, to some extent, everything has its own risk. Even having a meal, you can be chocked by food. But shall we just stop eating from now on?
Last but not the least, what makes human different from animal is, human can face danger and risk bravely and wisely, and try to figure out how to turn risk into chance. So the Japanese nuclear crisis may not be the curse from God. When causing a mess of trouble, it also knocked the alarm for human to be more cautious and careful to take advantage of nuclear energy. If we have the courage and take the right way to seize the chance and tame this dangerous but useful demon, we can not only save the crisis but also pave way for a wider utilization of nuclear energy.
Now the Japanese nuclear crisis has come to an end gradually, but the thought and inspiration which it left behind won’t just fade away. On one hand, what we should do now is developing our technology
