When it comes to jewelry stories, there are countless tales of love, betrayal, and adventure. One of my favorite stories is that of the Hope Diamond. Legend has it that the diamond was stolen from an idol in India and cursed, bringing misfortune to all who possessed it. The diamond changed hands many times, eventually ending up in the possession of French jeweler Pierre Cartier in 1910. He sold it to American heiress Evalyn Walsh McLean, who wore it frequently and even let her dog wear it as a collar. However, tragedy struck her family and she eventually sold the diamond to pay off debts. The Hope Diamond is now on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.
Another interesting jewelry story is that of the
Cartier Love Bracelet. Designed in the 1970s by Aldo Cipullo, the bracelet was meant to symbolize everlasting love. The bracelet is locked onto the wearer's wrist with a
screwdriver, symbolizing the commitment of love. The
bracelet became a symbol of luxury and was worn by many celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The Cartier Love Bracelet is still popular today and
remains a timeless symbol of love.
