Unit 8 Is there a post office near here?
Section A(1a-2d)说课稿
Part 1 Teaching material analysis
The Unit 8 is around the topic “The neighborhood” , In this unit, the students are going to learn to ask for and give directions on the street. Also, the students are going to learn “There be” structure, where questions and propositions of place. Asking way is usual in our daily life. I’ll set up a relaxing atmosphere to arouse the students’ interest and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Part 2 Teaching guideline
As we all know people learn a language in order to communicate. As a language teacher, I realize that it’s important to develop the students’ communication competence. It seems to me there are three points to improve it. First, lay special emphasis on developing listening/reading/speaking/writing skills. Second, let the students understand the daily conversation better. Third, practice the spoken English more to improve the ability to communicate freely.
Part 3 Teaching aims and demands
1. knowledge objects
1). to study the topic about neighborhood/ propositions
2). to study the new words: post office, police station, hotel, restaurant…
3). to study the there be structure, where questions and propositions of place
2.Ability objects
1).to develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing
2).to develop the students’ abilities of communication by learning the useful structures
3.Moral objects
to enable the students to express themselves freely
4.Teaching key points and difficulties
The key point of this unit is let the students know how to ask for and give directions. The teaching difficulties is the” There be” structure.
Part 4 Teaching methods
It’s generally known that the aims of learning English in th e junior middle school is to improve the students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. There are different teaching methods, such as five-step teaching method, audio-visual teaching method, task-based language teaching. In this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method. That is” learning by doing” “doing things with the language”. I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange some activities: watching pictures, talking, role-play the conversation, pair/group work.
Part 5 Teaching procedures.
It is made up of 5 steps. They are warming up, presentation, pair work, practice, summary and homework. Now let’s go to the first step:
Step1. Warming up
The purpose is to arouse the students’ interest of study. At the beginning of the class, we will greet each other, then a free talk, and move to the next step .
Step2. Presentation
1) Let the students look at some pictures, then revise some new words: post office,
police station, hotel, restaurant…
2) Tell the students the main topic” neighborhood/ propositions” and lead in a new sentence structure(“There be”structure). First, I’ll show a picture and ask the students with the sentence” Is there a post office/police station/hotel/restaurant near here?” Let them try to answer me correctly. Next, let the students ask questions and I give the answers.
3) L ead to the “There be” structure, where questions and propositions of place.
Step3. Pair work
Ask the students to practice the sentences with their partners, then, ask some volunteers to act it out.
Step4. Practice
Making a dialogue(role-play). After learning new words and sentences, I’ll give the students a task to make dialogues, as follows:
A:Is there a restaurant near your house?
B:Yes, there is. It’s on the center street.
A:Where is the supermarket?
B:It’s next to the library.
A:Where are the payphones?
B:They are in front of the post office.
Listening practice. Ask the students to finish 1b/2b, listen and write the correct answers. Step5. Summary and homework
1) Ask the students to sum up w hat they’ve learnt on this lesson
2) Ask the students to finish 3a/3b.。
