Hello Kitty, the cat with no mouth, has become the first cartoon kitty to go to space! Lauren Rojas,a 13-year-old girl from America came up with the idea for her science project at school.
The inspiration(灵感)came from a television programme Lauren once watched. In the programme,a balloon was released(释放) into the sky. She thought she could do the same with her Hello Kitty doll.
Lauren spent about a month building a small silver rocket and a weather balloon by herself. She put the Hello Kitty doll into the rocket and tied it with the balloon. After testing wind direction and temperature, she set the balloon free.
After a few minutes, the balloon rose more than 90,000 feet above the ground. It was near outer space. There, the air was so thin that the balloon burst. The balloon was 53 times larger than its original size before bursting open. Hello Kitty's rocket fell back down to Earth with the help of a parachute (降落伞),and landed safely.
Hello Kitty went along for the ride in the rocket just for fun. "I have liked her ever since I was 6 years old," Lauren told the New York Daily News. " I thought it would be really fun to add a toy inside the rocket. "
Lauren loves carrying out science experiments. This experience sparked(激发) her interest in science even further.

I decided to go with him and that evening I went on board a ship for the first time. It was lst September 1651.When we sailed out of Hull, a strong wind started to blow. If you let me live! promise to go back home." The weather was better the following day. There was still a strong wind but the sea was calmer. That night I slept well. The next morning, the sun was shining and the sea was calm. My friend and I had a drink and I felt very happy. I completely forgot my promise to God. After a few days of good weather there was another storm. This one was worse than the one before.

Many would agree that when we think of Christmas, we probably think of gifts, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. But behind all these things lies the true meaning of Christmas: the importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. The story in A Christmas Carol is perhaps the best example of this.
A Christmas Carol is a famous novel written by Charles Dickens. It is about an old man named Scrooge. He only thinks about himself and doesn’t treat others nicely. He just cares about whether he can make more money. And he hates Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge sees the ghost of Jacob Marley, his dead business partner. Marley used to be just like Scrooge, so he was punished after he died. He warns Scrooge to change his ways if he doesn’t want to end up like him. He also tells Scrooge to expect three spirits to visit him.
That night, three ghosts visit Scrooge. First, the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him back to his childhood and reminds Scrooge of his happier days as a child. Then the second spirit, the Ghost of Christmas Present, takes him to see how others are spending Christmas this year. Everyone is happy, even poor people. The last one, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, takes him to the future. He sees that he is dead but nobody cares. Scrooge is so scared that he wakes up in his bed and finds out it is already the next morning on Christmas Day!
He decides to change his life and promises to be a better person. He happily celebrates Christmas with his relatives. He also gives gifts to people in need. He now treats everyone with kindness and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he goes. And that is the true spirit of Christmas!

A well-known treasure from Yuanmingyuan is finally back in Beijing 159 years after it was taken.
On Nov 13, a red bronze (红铜) horse-head statue – one of 12 Chinese zodiac animal-head statues that were once in the palace – was handed over to Beijing by Macao businessman Stanley Ho (何鸿燊).
The statue’s return caused a lot of discussion online. Many Weibo users said they were happy to see it return, while others were reminded of the history behind the relic (遗产).
In 1860, British and French soldiers broke into the Old Summer Palace. They burned and destroyed the palace’s buildings, as well as stole countless treasures. Among them were the 12 Chinese zodiac animal-head statues.
“The return of the statue marks a broken link (连接) of collective (集体的) historical memory being reconnected,” Liu Yuzhu, director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, told China Daily.
It’s true that cultural relics represent the common memory of a nation. By standing for people’s values, beliefs and customs, they allow us to identify with (认同) others of similar backgrounds and feel a sense of unity (团结). Looking at the relics, we can better understand earlier generations and where we come from.
But beyond their cultural importance, the return of relics is also related (与……有关的) to national pride, China Daily noted. It stands for the rising power of China, as the country is able to get back things that once belonged to it. How do boys and girls spend their spare time after finishing their homework? Watch TV, play computer games, or go outside to relax? Here’s a good example.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark are both teachers. They live in the UK with their two daughters: eleven-year-old Amy and Lily who is two years younger. Recently, the Mark family became the focus of the whole country after they completed 100 different outdoor activities in one year.

Most high schools in the United States publish a yearbook once a year, usually in spring. It is a record of the school year—a “book of memories” for the students.
Inside a yearbook is each stud ent’s photo. The seniors are graduating soon, and their photos appear first. Next are the juniors. They are one year behind the seniors. Then come the second-year students. The last photos are the first-year students. The yearbook is not only about students. The teachers have photos, too.
The yearbook also has photos and descriptions of many activities. These are activities that students do after school, such as the chess club and Spanish club. There is even a yearbook club. Students in this club write, design and take photos all year for the yearbook.
In the yearbook, some students receive special titles. The seniors vote and choose the “class clown” (a funny student), the “most likely to succeed” (a student who got the best grades), and the “best dressed” (a student with a good fashion sense). There are also other awards.
Students usually sign each other’s yearbooks. This is especially important for the seniors because they are graduating. Students write notes to each other, such as, “We had a lot of fun,” or “I’ll never forget you.” They also write about the fun and funny experiences they shared in school together.

This is a story from a meeting held by some people and two things in nature. We call it the Four-Sided Talk. Let's "listen to" everyone carefully and find out what they think.
An old tree: I am thousands of years old, but I have fewer and fewer friends. I'm afraid I will be cut someday. People cut down many trees to make paper and chopsticks. People: We have lived on the earth since ancient times. The earth is our home. We have done some harm to our home! From now on, we should make full se of the resources on the earth and protect the earth. Let's try our best!
The United Nations: We know a little about the environmental problems. Hearing what all of you said, we've decided to protect the earth and love the earth. We've also made the June 5th World Environment Day.
