Unit 4 Where’s my schoolbag?
Period 1 (Section A 1a-1c)
【Teaching aims】
1. Language goals
Learn the new words: table, bed, bookcase, sofa, chair, where, in, on, under.
Master the key sentence patterns: Where’s my schoolbag? It’s under the table.
Where are my books? They’re on the sofa.
Master the usage of the prepositions of place: in, on, under.
2. Ability goals
Ss can use the key sentences(Where's.../Where are...) to talk about the places of different things.
Ss can improve their communicative competence.
3. Moral goals
At the end of the period, students are expected to keep things in order and keep their own room clean and tidy.
【Teaching important points】
1. Grasp the new words and sentences.
2. Learn to find something by using the sentence patterns:
Where's...It's on/ in/ under...;Where are...They're on/ in/ under...
【Teaching difficult points】
Ss can talk about where things are very fluently.
【Teaching procedures】
Step1: Warming up
Revise some school things by asking questions:
T: ----what is this? ----S1: It is a/an...
----How do you spell it? ----...
----Is this your...? ----Yes, it is./ No, it isn't.
T: ----What are these? -----S2: They are...
----Spell it, please. ----...
-----Are these your... ----Yes, they are./ No, they aren't.
Step2: Learn the new words
1.Present the new words.
(1)Show Ss some pictures about different furniture in different rooms(living room/ dining room/ bedroom): chair, table, bed ,bookcase, sofa.
T: What’s this? /What are they?/What can you see?
(2)Show the pictures and ask students to say the name of the furniture, then read them one by one in rows.
2. Consolidate the new words.
(3)Best eyes (speak out the words as quickly as you can)
(4) Look at the picture on page 19. Match the words with the things in the picture. Then check the answers. ( Eg: Table is in picture b)
Step3: Learn the prepositions of place
1.Watch a video about "in, on, under". Arouse students’ interests of learning new things.
2. Show the pictures of a ball and a box to teach ″in, on, under″
Present ″where’s...? It’s in/on/under...″.
3. Present some pictures on the screen and lead the Ss to practice:
″--W here’s ...--It's in/on/under..."
4. Do the pair work to consolidate the sentence "--Where's ...?--It's ...".
5. Show some books and a bookcase to the students an d present ″Where are...? They’re...”.
6. Present some pictures and ask students to practice this sentence pattern.
7. Do the pair work to consolidate "--Where are...--They're in/on/under..."
Step 4: Listening. (1b)
1.Before listening:
(1)Where are the small boxes? (Predict the things they will talk about and where the things are according to the small boxes in the picture)
2.While listening:
(1)1b. Listen and number the things in the picture [1-4].
3. After listening:
(1) Ask Ss to check the answers and read the conversations after the recorder together.
(2) Look at the room on the bottom of the picture 1a.
T: Look at this room. Is it tidy or messy? S: Messy.
(3) Present two pictures and compare them. (One is Tom's room. His room is messy. The other is Jane's room. Her room is clean and tidy.)
T: Boys and girls, please look at these two rooms. One is Tom's, the other is Jane's. Which room do you like? Why?
(4) Group work to describe each room with the help of the given paper, then ask a student to give a report.
(5) Draw the conclusion that we should keep our things clean and tidy.
T: So we should learn from Jane, but not Tom. Right? We should keep our rooms and our things clean and tidy.
Step 5: Summary
T: Ok, we have learned a lot in this class. Now let's sum up together.
Words: table, bed, bookcase, chair, sofa.
Sentences: -Where’s...? -It’s in/ on/ under...
- Where are...? -They’re in/ on/ under...
The usage of "in/ on/ under".
Step 6: Homework:
1. Remember the new words.
