第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项
中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)In our life, they are two different types of dreamer,一low-recall dreamers and high-recall dreamers. According to researchers at the Lyon Nero-science Research Center in France, high-recall dreamers reported they remembered their dreams almost every day while low-recall dreamers said they only remembered their dreams once or twice a month, reported Live Science.
Perrine Ruby,a lead scientist at the research center in Lyon, studied 41 people (21 high-recall dreamers and 20 low-recall dreamers) and recorded their brain activity. She found that a part of the brain called the temporo-parietal junction ( 颞顶叶交界处)was more active in high-recall dreamers. This was true both when they were sleeping and awake. This area of the brain is responsible for collecting and processing information from the outside world. This means that high-recall dreamers are more sensitive to what is happening around them. For example, when they are awake, they respond more strongly to hearing their own names. When they are sleeping, they tend to be woken up more easily by sounds and movements.
By closely studying people’s brain activity, Ruby found that high-recall dreamers have twice as much “wakefulness time” during sleep as low-recall dreamers do. And it is during these short periods of wakefulness that the brain memorizes dreams.
This is not hard to understand. Just try to think of your own sleeping experience. If you are restless during the night, you are more likely to remember your dreams, but if you sleep well and soundly, you tend to remember very little in the morning. This is because “you never get a chance to remember”, Robert Stickgold, a Harvard Medical School researcher, told The Washington Post.
As another research project at the University of Turku in Finland showed, dream content can also affect our memory. Negative dreams are easier to recall than ordinary dreams. Nightmares are often recalled because they are emotionally negative, and such dreams cause fear.
1、What can we know about high-recall dreamers according to the article?
A.They have very little brain activity when they sleep.
B.They can remember their dreams clearly.
C.They don’t know how to describe their dreams.
D.They can’t remember their dreams.
2、Which is true about low-recall dreamers compared to high-recall dreamers? A.They have higher quality sleep.
B.They have more sleepless nights
C.They are more easily woken at night.
D.They respond faster when hearing their names.
3、What is the main purpose of the second to last paragraph?
A.To explain Ruby’s findings.
B.To attract readers, interest in future studies.
C.To show the advantages of being a low-recall dreamer.
D.To suggest what to do to become a low-recall dreamer.
4、What did the research project in Finland find?
A.Ordinary dreams can help our brain rest.
B.Dreams are often affected by our emotions.
C.Nightmares often happen when we don't sleep well.
D.Negative dreams are more likely to be recalled.
22.(8分)Optimism May Help People Live Longer
People who have an optimistic view on life are more likely to live longer, a US study said Wednesday.
The study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, analyzed data from 2004 to 2012 from 70,000 women enrolled in the Nurses’ Health Study, a long-running US study tracking women’s health via surveys every two years.
The researchers looked at participants’ levels of optimism and other factors that might play a role in how optimism may affect mortality risk, such as race, high blood pressure, diet, and physical activity.
It found the most optimistic women, or the top 25%, had a nearly 30 percent lower risk of dying from any of the diseases analyzed in the study compared with the least optimistic women, or the bottom 25%.
The most optimistic women had a 16 percent lower risk of dying from cancer; 38 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease; 39 percent lower risk of dying from stroke; 38 percent lower risk of dying from respiratory disease; and 52 percent lower risk of dying from infection.
Previous studies have linked optimism with reduced risk of early death from
cardiovascular (心脑血管的) problems, but this was the first to find a link between optimism and reduced risk from other major causes.
“While most medical and public health efforts today focus o n reducing risk factors for diseases, evidence has been mounting that enhancing psychological resilience (弹性,复原力) may also make a difference,” said Eric Kim, research fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and co-lead author of the study.
“Our new findings suggest that we should make efforts to boost optimism, which has been shown to be associated with healthier behaviors and healthier ways of coping with life challenges.”
The study also found that healthy behaviors only partially explain the link between optimism and reduced mortality risk. One other possibility is that higher optimism directly affects our biological systems, Kim said.
Co-lead author and postdoctoral research fellow Kaitlin Hagan said optimism can be varied with relatively uncomplicated and low-cost interventions (干预), even things as simple as having people write down and think about the best possible outcomes for various areas of their lives, such as careers or friendships.
“Encouraging use of these interventions could be a n innovative way to enhance health in the future,” Hagan said.
1、According to the recent study, optimism can ________.
A.help women live longer than men
B.enable people to stay healthy
C.cure people of high blood pressure
D.make woman stay young and nice
2、From the recent study, the optimistic women ________.
A.took the risk of dying from infection
B.were less likely to die from some disease
C.had a 39% lower risk of suffering from cancer
D.were less likely to suffer from low emotions
3、The underlined word “mounting” in paragraph 7 might be best placed by ________. A.increasing B.appearing
C.doubling D.showing
4、Both Kim and Hagan believed that ________.
A.simple but high-cost interventions should be tried out
B.higher optimism indirectly influences our body
C.optimism should be encouraged and developed
D.optimism can help people meet all kinds of challenges
23.(8分)Humans make mistakes. Even surgeons with years of experience are not infallible. But what if these doctors could pool their knowledge and experience together and create a surgical standard of care, to be carried out by machines?
That's the idea behind surgical robots, which may soon perform most surgeries, from sewing up tiny wounds to performing heart procedures. Many of these operations are, in fact, already completed with the assistance of robots. But a recent test suggests that robots in the operating room may soon go a step further, performing on soft tissue completely on their own, from start to finish.
The Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot(STAR), successfully completed surgeries on pigs. "We're the first group to develop autonomous robotic surgery with soft-tissue surgery, and when compared to standard operation, it's better, "says Peter Kim, professor of surgery. "The idea is not to replace surgeons;it will make the surgeons better and make the procedures safer. "
A recent Mayo Clinic study found that major surgical errors-including operating
on the wrong site or side of the body, or even leaving tools or objects inside the
patient-occur every one out of 22, 000 procedures. That's rare, but robots like STAR would aim to lower the number even further.
In the da Vinci surgical system, surgeons place their arms inside instruments and use their hands to control the movement of robotic tools on the operating table from afar. The robot's every major move is controlled by surgeons, and thus its results may vary based on the surgeon's training or experience.
STAR, on the other hand, is entirely autonomous. It's not only able to work on its own and perform surgeries with a more flexible "hand", but it's able to react to the unexpected incidents. Cutting into hard tissue like bones is one thing, but operating on moving soft tissue is far more complex. STAR reacts to a changing environment, similar to how self-driving cars are programmed to not only drive on the highway, but also react to another driver making a mistake and getting in your way.
1、The underlined word "infallible" in Paragraph 1probably means ______ .
A.quite smart B.really creative
C.rather responsible D.always right
2、We can learn from the passage that STAR ______ .
A.can perform the operation on its own
B.has been widely used in the operating room
C.can make surgeries much faster
D.will take the place of surgeons
3、In the da Vinci surgical system, ______ .
A.robots are trained from afar B.robots always make mistakes
C.surgery results depend on surgeons D.surgeons have trouble controlling robots 4、In the last paragraph, the author mentions self-driving cars in order to show ______ . A.how smart an autonomous robot can be
B.how difficult self-driving on the highway is
C.how bad getting in another driver's way might be
D.how dangerous operating on people is.
24.(8分)An online supermarket company—Ocado in the UK, has recently displayed a robotic hand that can pick fruits and vegetables!
When an embryo is in the womb (子宫), the very first sense it develops is touch. The sense of touch is also the one that lasts the longest—as we get older and our vision and hearing begins to weaken, touch still remains. Humans use their touch to protect themselves, to create emotional relationships with other people and to experience pleasure. Can you imagine life without it?
The sense of touch comes from a net work of nerve endings (神经末梢) and special touch receptors on the surface of the skin. While there are different kinds of touch receptors, they help us judge pressure, texture and vibrations (震动). They are located in our fingertips, palms, soles of our feet, face, lips and tongue.
When we touch something, the mechano-receptors feel the touch and through a network of nerves send signals to the brain. This informs the brain about the location of the touch, the amount of force used, and the speed at which it was used.
Several different techniques have been tried in the past few years to create such a robotic hand—using three fingers. But this latest design by Soma copies the human hand. The gripper (钳子) is made up of flexible materials which grasp the thing based
on its size and shape. Then air pressure is used to control the movement of the robotic fingers to pick objects safely and without causing damage.
The next step would be for the robot to judge how ripe the fruits and vegetables are, and apply pressure accordingly. Members of the research team are currently working on adding computerized vision to the robots, so that they can see what they are grasping.
Does all this mean robots can replace people? According to Ocado, it helps improve productivity by removing some of the repetitive tasks done by humans.
1、What is focused on in the second paragraph?
A.The origin of touch.
B.The importance of touch.
C.The development of touch.
D.The process of transporting touch.
2、What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The brain. B.The touch.
C.The nerve. D.The signal.
3、What is the typical feature of the latest robots?
A.They can see what they're taking hold of.
B.They can take the place of people in work places.
C.They can tell whether the fruits and vegetables are ripe.
D.They can hold things firmly according to their outer features.
4、What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Sense of Touch for Robots
B.A Robotic Hand for Classifying Fruits
C.A Robotic Hand with a Gentle Touch
D.A Robot Made of Flexible Materials

In a recent airing of "Unsolved Mysteries", there was a young boy who was the victim of the holocaust(大屠杀).He'd been 1 in a work camp for several years and somehow had managed to survive the 2 of his imprisonment.
The story was of a boy - now in his sixties - and his quest to find an American soldier who had 3 a kindness to him by 4 some food.
