Text 1:M:Hi,I'm home.
W:Hi. Did you remember to buy the tickets?
M:Well, I remembered, but they were sold out.
W:Oh no. I was really looking forward to it. It's the last night that the play is on.
Text 2:M:Have you got something bigger?
W:That's the last one we've got, I'm afraid.
M:I'll leave it, thanks.
Text 3:W:Why so early?
M:Early? It's 3 o'clock now. School starts at 8:45 in the morning and I leave for the family at 5:30. I feel like a slave sometimes. Then, I have to clean the dishes and finish doing my history homework. Who knows how long that'll take.
W:Wow, sounds like you're going to have a full day. Hey listen, why don't I come over later in the evening, and we can play a game or something.
M:Sounds good, but give me a call before you come. My mom might try to come up with something else for me to do.
Text 4:W:The red tie is $15 and the black one is $18. Which color do you want?
M:Oh, I want the bright yellow one. How much is it?
W:It is twice as much as the black one.
Text 5:W:Why are you sitting here and doing nothing?
M:I forgot to bring my pencil to take notes in class.
W:That's all right. I have enough for both of us.
Text 6:W:What time is it, Dad?
M:It's 4:30. What's the matter?
W:I promised Jessica that I would go to her house at around 5 o'clock to help her fill out some forms for police college. Can I finish doing this later?
M:OK, but don't spend all night over there. Your mother and I are going out for dinner and to see a movie tonight, so when you get back home, please take Judd out.
W:I'll try to be home before 9 o'clock. I'd like to get all this stuff packed before Monday.
M:I'll be glad to help tomorrow afternoon after I come back from playing tennis.
W:OK, have fun at the movie!
M:See you later, Say hello to Jessica for me!
W:OK. Bye!
Text 7:W:Hi, Mark. Haven't seen you for ages. How are you doing?
M:I'm busy with my experiments in the lab. After work I like to play sports.
W:Like what?
M:Like tennis, running and golf.
W:Golf? That's my favorite game. How often do you play it, Mark?
M:I usually play it about once a month. What about you, Hingis?
W:I play it every Sunday.
M:Even when it rains?
W:Yes, even when it rains. I never miss a game on Sunday.
M:Where do you go?

M:Yes, I was there once. You're going to play next Sunday, I suppose.
W:Of course! Listen! Why don't you come with me? We can play together.

Text 8:W:So, how are things going, Steve?
M:Well, to be honest Carla, I was feeling great on Saturday, but I started to feel sick Sunday afternoon. I thought I'd get better, but I feel worse than before. And I'm really worried because I've got an exam on Friday, so I have to be better by then.
W:Well, what seems to be the problem?
M:Well, the doctor said it was just a bad cold. He gave me some cold medicine to take care of my fever. I'm supposed to take the medicine three times a day after eating, but it doesn't seem to help. He also told me to stay in bed for a day or so, but I'm so busy these days.
W:Listen, forget about that medicine! I have just the thing to get rid of bad cold. My mom has some very good Chinese medicine.
M:Oh, no thanks.
W:Ah, come on! Give it a try. You just take some of my mom's special tea and drink it four times a day. Believe me. You'll be up and dancing around in no time.
M:Dancing around in no time, right? Well, I guess. Nothing else seems to be doing the job.
W:Great. I'll come by your place at 7:30. See you then.
Text 9:W:Hey Taxi! Ah great. Thanks for pulling over.
M:Where to?
W:Well, I'm going to the National Museum of Art, and ...
M:Sure. Get in. No problem. Hang on!

M:Well, that all depends on the traffic, but it shouldn't take more than twenty minutes.
W:Okay. Uh, sorry for asking Yeah? But do you have any idea how much will it be?
M:Oh, it shouldn't be more than 18 dollars ... not including a ... uh-hum ... a tip of course.
W:Oh, and by the way, do you know what time the museum closes?
M:Well, I would guess around 6:00 o'clock.
W:Uh, do you have the time?
M:Yeah. It's half past four.
W:Thanks.
Text 10:My wife and I spent two weeks in London last year. We went there in the autumn. We think it's the best season to visit England. The weather is usually good and there aren't too many tourists in October.
We stayed in s small hotel in the West End. It was convenient as we did most of our sightseeing on foot. Taxis were too expensive. We couldn't understand the bus routes. My wife didn't like taking the underground. She said it made her sick.
We went to visit the places which all the tourists see. We saw Buckingham Palace and the National Gallery. We went shopping in Oxford Street and spent too much money. What we liked most, though, was going to the theatre. We don't have the chance to see such wonderful plays at home. A lot of people say English food is very bad. We don't think so. It is true that most of the restaurants are French or Italian or Chinese, but we had some very good meals.
In fact, we enjoyed our holiday so much that we have already planned another trip this year. We are going to take our umbrellas, though. I'm sure we'll need them.

第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
When my brother and I were young,my mom would take us on Transportation Days.
It goes like this:You can't take any means of transportation more than once.We would start from home, walking two blocks to the rail station. We'd take the train into the city center, then a bus, switching to the tram, then maybe a taxi.We always considered taking a horse carriage in the historic district, but we didn't like the way the horses were treated,so we never did.At the end of the day,we took the subway to our closest station, where Mom's friend was waiting to give us a ride home—our first car ride of the day.
The good thing about Transportation Days is not only that Mom taught us how to get around. She was born to be multimodal(多方式的).She understood that depending on cars only was a failure of imagination and, above all,a failure of confidence—the product of a childhood not spent exploring subway tunnels.
Once you learn the route map and step with certainty over the gap between the train and the platform, nothing is frightening anymore.New cities are just lines to be explored. And your personal car,if you have one, becomes just one more tool in the toolbox—and often an inadequate one, limiting both your mobility and your wallet.
On Transportation Days,we might stop for lunch on Chestnut Street or buy a new book or toy,but the transportation was the point.First,it was exciting enough to watch the world speed by from the train window. As I got older,my mom helped me unlock the mysteries that would otherwise have paralyzed my first attempts to do it myself:How do I know where to get off?How do I know how much it costs? How do I know when I need tickets, and where to get them? What track, what line, which direction, where's the stop, and will I get wet when we go under the river?
I'm writing this right now on an airplane,a means we didn't try on our Transportation Days
and,we now know, the dirtiest and most polluting of them all.My flight routed me through Philadelphia. My multimodal mom met me for dinner in the airport. She took a train to meet me.

When I was a kid, there was a series of books called Froggy. One particular book was Froggy Goes to Bed by Jonathan London. They would always tell how Froggy would go on these adventures in everyday life and finally his mom would call “Frooooggy” and tell him to do something he didn't want to do and he would take a long time to do it.
After hearing and learning to read these books,my parents kept giving me new books to read at night before bed and I realized reading wasn't so bad, because it would help me sleep when I had trouble sleeping. Each story had an interesting plot and lesson.
When I was older about the age of 11,I got really interested in Harry Potter.Once I started reading that throughout the day,I would think to myself,“If only I were a wizard and enrolled (入学) in a school like Hogwarts! Each day would be amazing and I could study whatever spells (咒语) I wanted.”I was totally absorbed in this series. My parents would read me a few chapters at night and my mom/dad would say“Good night,Evan!”but I would always want to hear more. Finally,I would get so interested that I would read sometimes when it was raining,or I had a long car ride ahead of me.

In today's information age,it's nearly impossible to avoid using social media.According to USA Today, even American universities are increasingly using social media as a learning tool.Their goal is to teach students how to use social media professionally.
Jade Johnson is taking an advertising course at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. For the class,he has had to organize and promote a contest via Facebook,Twitter and Instagram, channels that are commonly used by advertising firms.
“A lot of times students prefer not to use certain social media, but are forced to because of the class,”says Jade.
Some students may be reluctant to create an account, but Jade says that it was helpful because social media skills mean better job opportunities in today's world.
More college classes are appearing that are designed specially to teach students about social media, offering them a different look into something they may use on a daily basis.
Jenna Kapsis,a senior at William Paterson University, was required to post two Tweets on Twitter and one update on Facebook per week in her Digital and Social Media Communication class. The course had a specific Facebook page where students would create discussion groups and post links.
“Some of the topics included social media manners, online marketing and current events,”Kapsis says.
As technology continues to develop, colleges and universities will likely continue to find ways to combine it into their teaching.Whether it's to create discussion groups, carry out plans,or communicate with students, professors are ensuring that students can see the potential of mastering social media platforms.

It's 5:00 in the morning when the alarm (闹钟) rings in my ears.I roll out of bed and walk blindly through the dark into the bathroom.I turn on the light and put on my glasses. The house is still as I walk downstairs while my husband and three kids sleep ually I go for a long run,but today I choose my favorite exercise DVD,Insanity.Sweat pours down my face and into my eyes.My heart races as I force my body to finish each movement. As I near the end of the exercise,I feel extremely tired, but a smile is on my face. It's not a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit.
Some people enjoy shopping, smoking, food, work,or even chocolate. But I need exercise to get through each day. Some shake heads when they see me run through the town.Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother's chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my “no thank you,”or by my choice to have a salad.Over the years,I have learned it's okay to just say “no.”I shouldn't feel sorry for refusing food that I don't want to eat.
So what drives me to roll out of bed at 5:00 a.m.?What gives me the reason to just say no to ice cream?Commitment.A commitment to change my life with a way that reduces daily anxiety, increases and energy, extends life and above all improves my body shape. This is the point where a smile appears on my face as I look at myself in the mirror or try on my favorite pair of jeans that now fit just right. It's through commitment and sweat that I can make a difference within myself inside and out.
