The Manchu ethnic group, also known as the Manchus or the Nuzhen, holds a significant place in the diverse tapestry of Chinese culture. Origins and Early History.
The ancestors of the Manchus trace their lineage to the Jurchen tribe, who flourished in Northeast China during the Song dynasty. Over time, the Jurchen tribe evolved and eventually emerged as the Manchus, a distinct ethnic group with its own language, customs, and traditions. In the 17th century, the Manchus established the Qing dynasty, which ruled China for nearly three centuries, marking a significant period of Chinese history.
Language and Writing.
The Manchu language, also known as the Manchurian language or Nuxen, is a member of the Tungusic language family. It was the official language of the Qing dynasty and was widely used in government administration, literature, and daily life. However, with the decline of the Qing dynasty and the rise of the Han Chinese majority, the use of the Manchu language gradually declined. Today, only a small number of Manchus still speak the language, and it is considered endangered.
