Unless one is engaged in the task of writing a fairly comprehensive biography, the study of a writer rarely begins with attention to her or his juvenilia. A writer's early attempts to overcome various anxieties of influence, to master the intricacies of language, and to forge a distinctive voice are either dismissed or trivialized. This habit, or perhaps convention, precludes opportunities to inquire into the origins of the writer's ultimate achievement and power. Valid inquiries, of course, can be initiated at points other than the formative years. Nevertheless, our insights into the writer's style and aesthetic might be strengthened by trying to identify the literary origins of creative production. This procedure is especially germane in efforts to account for Tom Dent's importance as an African American writer and intellectual. The governing presupposition for these notes is a claim about quality in writing. The art or skill that makes good writing is a possession of value and an activity of mind that is never exactly, as Richard Wright accurately proposed in "Blueprint for Negro Writing," on the page. The art is in perspective. The page is a catalyst for the engagement of the reader's mind with that of the writer; they collaborate on a vision of reality, agreeing or disagreeing as the case might be. Thomas Covington Dent (or as he preferred, Tom Dent), a New Orleans writer best known for his work with Free Southern Theater and his extraordinarily popular play Ritual Murder, his electric mentorship of younger writers and artists, and his work in oral history that culminated in Southern Journey (1997), certainly had perspective in the sense that Richard Wright intended; Dent also had subtle political and historically analytic perspectives on African American cultures. These perspectives are richly manifested in Dent's fledgling work as a journalist, specifically from writing produced during his tenure as editor-in-chief of the Maroon Tiger, the Morehouse College newspaper, during 1951-52. His editorials in Volume 53, Numbers 1-6, provide early evidence of what we are beginning to understand about his orientation toward reality, his aesthetic preferences, his complex and historically grounded modes of thought and expression. Thisevidence, crucial for a full assessment of Dent's later work, marks Dent as a writer from the Black South who sought more than the vapors of fame.V2 是关于研究writer早期文章的作用,很短,分两段,第一段就是说研究一个writer 的早期文章怎么怎么好,第二段重点说一个writer名字叫X吧,说他现在是一个针对政治和历史方面的作家,但是以前是一个什么什么杂志的记者,说研究他当时的文章,可以帮助我们理解他现在的观点是怎样形成的。

V4一个 National Fast Food chain的director说服一个叫Cindy's Local Sandwich Shop加入他们的franchise, Cindy currently has 2 local restaurants in Tomville. 2. Standard menu, so customers already know what to order and know what kind of food quality they can expectn 3. Clothing store franchise has been successful. Join us now.

The following appeared as part of an editorial in an industry newsletter. While trucking panies that deliver goods pay only a portion of highway maintenance costs and no property tax on the highways they use, railways spend billions per year maintaining and upgrading their facilities. The government should lower the railroad panies property taxes, since sending goods by rail is clearly a more appropriate mode of ground transportation than highway shipping. For one thing, trains consume only a third of the fuel a truck would use to carry the same load, making them a more cost-effective and environmentally sound mode of transport. Furthermore, since rail lines already exist, increases in rail traffic would not require building new lines at the expense of taxpaying citizens. Discuss how well reasoned... etc.The conclusion of this editorial is that the government should lower property taxes for railroad panies. The first reason given is that railroads spend billions per year maintaining and upgrading their facilities. The second reason is that shipping goods by rail is cost-effective and environmentally sound. This argument is unconvincing for several reasons.First of all, the argument depends upon a misleading parison between railroad and truck pany expenditures. Although trucking panies do not pay property tax on roads they use, they do pay such taxes on the yards, warehouses and maintenance facilities they own. And while trucking panies pay only a portion of road maintenance costs, this is because they are not sole users of public roads. Railroad panies shoulder the entire burden of maintenance and taxes on their own facilities and tracks; but they distribute these costs to other users through usage fees.。

(同样没有原文)V2 People are interested in eating healthier, one way is to eat organic food which is grown without chemical and pesticide. Government is supportive for organic food. One grocery manager is recommending expanding their 3 out of 4 existing store to sell organic food.V3 就是最近的一个survey得出结论,现在的人更喜欢吃的营养,而吃的营养的一种方法就是吃有机食品。

This ad recommends non-prescription Acid-Ease over non-prescription Pepticaid for relief of excess stomach acid. The only reason offered is that doctors have written 76 million more prescriptions for the full-strength prescription form of Acid-Ease than for full-strength Pepticaid. While this reason is relevant, and provides some grounds for preferring Acid-Ease over Pepticaid, it is insufficient as it stands because it depends on three unwarranted assumptions. The first assumption is that the prescription form of Acid-Ease is more popular among doctors. But this might not be the case, even though doctors have written 76 million more prescriptions for Acid-Ease. Acid-Ease may have been available for several more years than Pepticaid; and in the years when both products were available, Pepticaid might have actually been prescribed more often than Acid-Ease.The second assumption is that doctors prefer the prescription form of Acid-Ease for the reason that it is in fact more effective at relieving excess stomach acid. However, doctors may have preferred Acid-Ease for reasons other than its effectiveness. Perhaps Acid-Ease is produced by a larger, more familiar drug company or by one that distributes more free samples. For that matter, the medical community may have simply been mistaken in thinking that Acid-Ease was more effective. In short, the number of prescriptions by itself is not conclusive as to whether one product is actually better thananother.。

You can tell the ideas of a nation by its advertisements.

In order to determine whether advertisements reflect a nations ideas, it is necessary to determine whether advertisements present real ideas at all, and, if so, whose ideas they actually reflect. On both counts, it appears that advertisements fail to accurately mirror a nations ideas.Indisputably, advertisements inform us as to a nations values, attitudes, and prioritieswhat activities are worthwhile, what the future holds, and what is fashionable and attractive. For instance, a proliferation of ads for sport-utility vehicles reflects a societal concern more for safety and machismo than for energy conservation and frugality, while a plethora of ads for inexpensive on-line brokerage services reflects an optimistic and perhaps irrationally exuberant economic outlook. However, a mere picture of a social more, outlook, or fashion is not an ideait does not answer questions such as why and how?Admittedly, public-interest advertisements do present ideas held by particular segments of societyfor example, those of environmental and other public-health interest groups. However, these ads constitute a negligible percentage of all advertisements, and they do not necessarily reflect the majoritys view. Consequently, to assert that advertisements reflect a nations ideas distorts reality. In truth, they mirror only the business and product ideas of companies whose goods and services are advertised and the creative ideas of advertising firms. Moreover, advertisements look very much the same in all countries. Western and Eastern alike. Does this suggest that all nations have essentially identical ideas? Certainly not.。

模板⼀ In the given memorandum, the director of human resources department concluded that the employee satisfactory was surely improved after HR department’s effort on enhancing communication between management team and the staff. To support his idea, he alleged that such communication was ranked top in a previous survey so that this issue must be the cared most by employees. At first glance, this conclusion seems to some extent convincing. However, with close examination, we can find at least 3 logic flaws. I would like to discuss in the following paragraphs to disclose how groundless the allegation is. First, the director’s conclusion is based on a doubtful survey. As the director introduced, the methodology of this survey is to have employees rank the issues according to the importance. To find out whether the survey results are reliable, we need to ask several questions: How many employees are included in this survey? Are they representative to the total staff? Does the questionnaire included all the issues cared by the employees? Is there any possibility that the staff are unwilling to disclose their true thoughts since the survey might require them to sign their names on the questionnaire? Without answers to the questions above, the director can not responsibly conclude that the survey result is reliable enough for the management to draw a decision. Second, given the survey result is representative and reliable, the communication issue constantly ranked top only suggests that it’s considered important, rather than that management need to improve. Very possibly, the management communication is already well carried out in company X, while some other issues ranked second or third, which are still important, are poorly noticed, and are the real cause of dissatisfaction Last but not least, even if the communication issue is the key to enhance employee moral, and more effort focused on this issue is the right way to solve the problem, however, this does not guarantee that the issue is solved. The director should carefully examine the effect of such actions - maybe through another survey - so as to make sure that every effort they made has achieved the expected result. In summation, the argument is not as persuasive as it stands. Since the survey has not been proven reliable and the importance of communication does not necessarily suggest that there is any weakness on the issue, we have every reason to cast our doubt on the director’s conclusion that enhancing communication is the key to improve morale. Furthermore, it is imprudent for the director to suggest that the campaign that his department held is effective. To convince us, the director needs to demonstrate that employee’s satisfaction does rise after the campaign. With such solid evidence, the arguer could further explore on the questionnaire and take some other solutions into account rather than directly jump intosuggestion/conclution that… . 模板⼆ Totally disagree: Some people keep talking about the problem of ..., claiming that ....If there is one-which I leave to doubt-then it probably came from the misunderstanding or misconduct, rather than the idea itself. *** is one of the most important elements in our modern society. That is to say, we need to ..., and also ...The rapid development of our society is requiring far more sophisticated problem-solving skills. We have little chance to win with a simplified code of conduct. Agree Dear reader, I’m Chinese, and what nationality are you? - Never mind, we are all human beings living in this world village. It is our responsibility to work together and make our home better. The arguer in the given material suggested that as global citizen, we should first be responsible to our earth, and then take the job to do benefit to our own countries. However, I see no conflicts between the to. If there is any, I believe we can easily solve it, since all people in this world will reach the same long-term target without difficulty. On the one hand, when we are working on your motherland, we are contributing to the whole human race. For example, a scientist working in his laboratory will share his findings no matter whether he is aiming to "make a better world" or just to contribute to his own country. In such a fast-developing era, science and technology has no boarders. All the invention, with or without penalty, will finally become the fortune of all the people on this planet. In such circumstances, when we protect the environment of our own village, we are doing favor to the whole nature. When we are making every effort to save energy, no matter by taking the underground instead of driving, or by supporting our government to invest on solar energy development, with your ballot and our tax dollars, we are playing our role of a responsibly citizen - both of the nation, and of the world. On the other hand, when we are saving our planet, we are saving our own country. Nowadays, many people with mutual belief work beyond the border on global affair. For instance, the Green Peace, a global NGO active in many countries, recruit members from all over the world, and serve all over the world. They generally believe that the environment is an organic whole. The pollution caused by low-level manufacturing in China would also poison the shrimps that American people devour. However, we have to admit that sometimes citizens, as well as nations, could appear selfish and shortsighted while exhausting their environment resources for short-round benefit. In this case, we do need to call for international cooperation to restrict such behaviors and protect our common homeland. To summarize, I would like to suggest that it is not necessary to distinguish the citizens for one country or for the globe. As long as we keep our mutual homeland, the earth, in mind, we can generally avoid the dilemma, and do what we consider right. 1 In the argument, the author concludes that … To support his conclusion, the author cites the study indicating that …/the author points out/reasons that … In addition, the author mentions (the evidence) that … Based on this evidence, the author further recommends that …(subjunctive动词原形)/recommends …(doing). The following appeared in a proposal from the development office at Platonic University.Because Platonic University has had difficulty in meeting its expenses over the past three years, we need to find new ways to increase revenues. We should consider following the example of Greene University, which recently renamed itself after a donor who gave it $100 million. If Platonic University were to advertise to its alumni and other wealthy people that it will rename either individual buildings or the entire university itself after the donors who give the most money, the amount of donations would undoubtedly increase.Discuss how well reasoned . etc.In this argument an analogy is drawn between Platonic University and Greene University. The author argues that to solve its economic problems, Platonic University should follow the example of Greene University, which was recently named after a wealthy donor, and offer to rename individual buildings or the university itself in exchange for donations. The author believes that since this tactic worked for Greene it would undoubtedly work for Platonic, and thus provide the much-needed revenue. This argument is questionable for several reasons. In the first place, the argument rests upon the assumption that a revenue-producing strategy that works for one university will work for another as well. However, Greene and Platonic may not be sufficiently similar to warrant this assumption. For example, a small, rural university is less likely to have alumni who could afford to make significant donations than a large, urbanuniversity. Lacking specific information about the makeup of the universities, and their alumni, it is impossible to assess the likelihood that the strategy employed by Greene will work for。

然后在随后的三年里 the number of tourists increased 25%。

所以,their demand should be rejected.

2、古龙水换代言人本月原始一个A开头的什么公司(反正是卖产品的)在first fouryears的ads campaign 中,它们的sales increase了30%,有一个which从句说这个campaign的speaker是一个professor。

但是last two years,它们的销售停留在同一个level。

director推测,potentialcustomer以后会是青少年,所以他建议把transform target customer from middle age men to stylish younger men。

V8. Company's cologne has experienced significant sales increase of 30% annually in the first four years of its launch. The company uses advertising campaign with professional sports stars and research found that most customers are middle-aged men. Cologne sale slowed down in recent years and CEO believes that they need to get younger people to use the cologne and he will hire Justin Bieber as their new spokesperson to achieve this.
