(6分)Our success, satisfaction and general happiness in life is not dependent on what happens to us but how we deal with it.
You will probably know from personal experience what a difference your attitude can make when, for example, you’re returning faulty goods or making a complaint. An open, polite and friendly approach, expecting a satisfactory result, normally results in one as people tend to respond with a similar attitude. If, however, you present an argument with an angry, accusing tone, expecting trouble, there is little doubt that this is what you’ll get!
Some people see the world through a filter of optimism and some through a filter of pessimism (悲观) which largely comes down to having a positive or negative (消极的) attitude. People who are suffering from a negative attitude primarily think that something ca n’t be done; they talk about problems, see all the difficulties, find fault with and criticize other people and focus on all the things they would like but haven’t got. On the contrary, people blessed with a positive attitude think that anything is possible. They look for ways to solve the problems, they see the good in everybody, and they are grateful for all the good things in their lives.
Whether suffering from or blessed with your attitude, this is not something that is put on us from the outside. We are very much responsible for our own attitude. We all start out with a “clean” board but this can get muddied by our experiences in life. As children we are made fun of and even get bullied (欺侮) and rejected, start to experience doubt and lose our self-confidence. If this .continues into adulthood, it can result in a bad attitude in later life.
1、It can be inferred from Paragraph 2 that people are likely to treat others . A.the way they are treated B.better when they are satisfied
C.worse when they are in trouble D.the way they consider appropriate
2、According to the writer, what affects people’s life attitude?
A.The situation they face. B.The people around them.
C.Their expectations of life. D.The way they view the world.
3、What is the purpose of the writer in writing this passage?
A.To show how to avoid a negative attitude.
B.To show the importance of a positive attitude.
C.To share his positive attitude with his reader.
D.To describe the effects of a negative attitude.
22.(8分)When John Muir was 11 years old, his family moved from Scotland to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. John was good with tools and soon became an inventor. He first invented a model of a sawmill. Later, he invented an alarm clock that would cause the sleeping person to be tipped out of bed when the timer sounded.
Muir left home at an early age. He took a 1,000-mile walk south to the Gulf of Mexico in 1867 and 1868. Then he sailed for San Francisco. The city was too noisy and crowded for Muir, so he headed inland for the Sierra Nevadas.
When Muir discovered the Yosemite Valley in the Sierra Nevadas, it was as if he had come home. He loved the mountains, the wildlife, and the trees. He climbed the mountains and even climbed trees during thunderstorms in order to get closer to the wind. He put forth the theory in the late 1860s that the Yosemite Valley had been formed through the action of glaciers (冰川). People ridiculed him. Not until 1930 was Muir’s theory proven correct.
Muir began to write articles about the Y osemite Valley to tell readers about its beauty. His writing also warned people that Y osemite was in danger from timber mining and sheep ranching interests. In 1901, Theodore Roosevelt became president of the United States. He was interested in conservation. Muir took the president through Yosemite, and Roosevelt helped get laws passed to create Yosemite National Park in 1906.
Although Muir won many conservation battles, he lost a major one. He fought to save the Hetch Hetchy Valley, which people wanted to dam in order to provide water for San Francisco. In late 1913, a bill was signed to dam the valley. Muir died in 1914. Some people say losing the fight to protect the valley killed Muir.

23.(8分) A couple of weeks ago, a few friends and I had an opportunity to attend a dear friend’s wedding in New York. After the wedding and reception, rather accidentally four of us gathered in a hotel room and began to explore the deeper meaning of life and death. What does it mean to live truly? If we are all getting closer to death, is all the material accumulation worth it? It is not exactly the type of conversations one has at a wedding.
While the answers varied from person to person, I was left with more questions than answers and a feeling of gratefulness to be surrounded by friends who were asking the “right” questions. As the clock kept ticking past 3 a.m., one of the roommates suggested we watch a short f ilm titled “Last Days of Zach Sobiech”. The film is about a teenager’s journey through the last days of his incurable illness. The film brought up a lot of mixed emotions but one quote that stood out for me was Zach’s simple explanation of happiness, “What makes one happy is seeing someone else smile because you put it
there.” By 4 a.m. , there was this energy in the room that had to be shared! With a few packages of post-it notes, we hit the halls of the hotel. We decided to leave short inspirational words on guests’ doors, so when they opened their doors few hours later a smile would turn up.
We ended up sticking post-it notes on all the doors until we ran out of them. The note on the door of the newly-weds properly said, “Where there is love, there is life.”1、About “explore the deeper meaning of life and death” at a wedding, the author thinks______
A.it is rather meaningful.
B.it is interesting.
C.it is natural.
D.it is not proper.

B.Zach’s poor fate.
C.Zach’s simple explanation of happiness.
D.Zach’s struggle with illness.
3、What did the author and his friends do after they saw the film?
A.They knocked door to door to offer help in the hotel.
B.They shared happiness with the workers of the hotel.
C.They stuck notes with encouraging words on guests’ doors.
D.They thanked the wedding couple gratefully for invitation.
4、What can we learn from the author and his friends’ action?
A.One who brings happiness to others is also happy oneself.
B.Helping others in trouble is good to oneself.
C.Friends are your valuable treasure.
D.Good is rewarded with good.
24.(8分)A Competitive Sport
Over the years, cheerleading(啦啦队)
has taken two primary forms: game-time cheerleading and competitive cheerleading. Game-time cheerleaders’ main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team cheers, which should not be considered a sport. However, competitive cheerleading is more than a form of entertainment. It is really a competitive sport.
Competitive cheerleading includes lots of physical activity. The majority of the teams require a certain level of tumbling (翻腾运动) ability. It’s a very common thing for gymnasts, so it’s easy for them to go into competitive cheerleading. Usually these cheerleaders integrate lots of their gymnastics experience including their jumps, tumbling, and overall energy. They also perform lifts and throws. This is where the “fliers” are thrown in the air, held by “bases” in different positions that require strength and working with other teammates.
Competitive cheerleading is also an activity that is governed by rules under which a winner can be declared. It is awarded points for technique, creativity and sharpness. Usually the more difficult the action is, the better the sco re is. That’s why cheerleaders are trying to experience great difficulty in their performance.
Besides, there is also a strict rule of time. The whole performance has to be completed in less than three minutes and fifteen seconds, during which the cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area. Any performance beyond the limit of time is invalid.
Another reason for the fact that competitive cheerleading is one of the hardest sports is that it has more reported injuries. According to some research, competitive cheerleading is the number one cause of serious sports injuries to women. Emergency room visits for it are five times the number than for any other sport, partially because cheerleaders don’t use protective equipment. Smiling cheerleaders are t hrown into the air and move down into the arms of the teammates, which may easily cause injuries. Generally, these injuries affect all areas of the body, including wrists, shoulders, ankles, head, and neck.
There can be no doubt that competitive cheerleading is a sport with professional skills. Hopefully, it will appear in the Olympics since cheerleaders are just as athletic and physically fit as those involved in the more accepted sports. It should be noted that it is a team sport and even the smallest mistake made by one teammate can bring the score of the entire team down. So without working together to achieve the goal, first
place is out of reach.
1、What is the main purpose of competitive cheerleading?
A.To compare skills of participants.
B.To make the audience feel amused.
C.To attract more people to watch events.
D.To cheer up the competitors on the court.
2、The underlined word “integrate” in Paragraph 2 probably means “______”. A.examine B.combine
C.identify D.replace
3、We can learn from the passage that competitive cheerleading ______.
A.lacks necessary guidelines to follow
B.enjoys greater popularity than other sports
C.requires more designed actions than gymnastics
D.has a relatively high rate of damage to the body

25.(10分)They follow you in the street. They ask you for money and they don’t leave you alone when you try to say no. They are the aggressive street-working,
fund-raising charity workers, otherwise known as “chuggers”.
The term “chugger” is a combination of two words, “charity” and “mugger”. Chuggers often work in the street. They set up a stall with information about the charity they represent, and they try to get you to donate money to the charity. Typically, they
prey on your feelings of guilt, greeting you with questions such as, “Do you care about the planet?” or, “When was the last time you did something for someone else?”
But a survey of their strategies has found that some charity volunteers are far from charitable. “Many chuggers simply refuse to back off when asked to do so,’’ said Brian Jones, a spokesperson for a charity watchdog (监察人). “One of the problems is that some chuggers say they are working as volunteers,” he added. “However, they aren’t really. Most of the 50 chuggers we spoke to showed little interest in anything other than raising the maximum amount of cash in the minimum amount of time. They get paid from this so it makes sense. Also, a fifth of fundraisers had no visible ID and almost a quarter failed to give clear information about the cause they were representing. By employing chuggers who break the law, tell lies or refuse to leave members of the public alone, charities undermine the trust we all instinctively have in them.”
But Shirley Bosworth, chief executive of the Institution of Fundraising, said
face-to-face fundraising remains “an appropriate and effective method”. “It enables charities to engage with a particular demographic of donor, and it means that charity and donor can enter into a dialogue about what the charity does and how the donor’s money wil l be used,” she explained.
1、What do chuggers do according to the passage?
A.They rob money of strangers.
B.They cheat you into buying things.
C.They ask you to donate money for charities.
D.They hurt your feelings by asking questions.
2、What’s the third p aragraph mainly about?
A.The survey of charity volunteers.
B.The problems with charity volunteers.
C.The basic information about charity volunteers.
D.The attitude Brian Jones takes toward charity volunteers.
3、What does the underlined word “undermine” may probably mean?
A.betray
B.strengthen
C.build
D.weaken
4、How does Shirley Bosworth feel about what chuggers do?
A.It’s useful. B.It’s disgusting.
C.It’s absurd. D.It’s popular.
