Users then get the range of calories for the meal that is photographed. We started with something simple -an apple. A couple of minutes later, the application replied that it was an apple and between 64 and 96 calories. More impressive was the reply we received after sending a photo of a mixed salad bowl. MealSnap replied that the bowl contained "yellow rice with corn, boiled eggs and beans〞 and that the food was between 532 and 789 calories.Mr. Smith, director of DailyBurn, said that usual calorie counting needed a long time, but that the application made it easier to know the calories in food. That is why it is so popular among those who are trying hard to lose weight. In addition, MealSnap can act as a food diary. No need to write down what they ,ve eaten, the photoes will be stored. The users can keep a visual log Mr. Smith said, "it ,s like a food journey, but easier. All you do is to take the picture. The simple act of recording something can cause a psychological (心理的) change that can help people on their health journey. Knowing the calorie range makes me think more about what I ,m eating.〞33. The purpose of DailyBurn is to________.A. help people find ways to lose weightB. make iPhone more popularC. help people have a healthy lifeD. persuade people to buy iPhone products34. What can be learned from the third paragraph?A. MealSnap is only useful for simple things.B. MealSnap can also tell what the food is.C. The result of MealSnap isn ,t always right.D. MealSnap needs a long time to show the calorie range.35. Which of the following statements about MealSnap is TRUE?A. It has been put into the market.B. People will have a physical change by using it.C. It ,s popular because it was developed by DailyBurn.D.

For some students, especially those from poor families, taking a job is not a matter of choice, but necessity. They need to work to save for college, or even to supplement family income. Counselors should help students who have a real need to work improve time management skills and seek employment that helps their educational goals."College costs are high, and young adults also want the amenities (便利设施) that extra money brings,〞according to John B. Boshoven, counselor for continuing education at Community High School in Michigan. However, he warns, "School is my students , full -time job.〞Studies show that students who work are more confident and possess better time management skills than students who are not employed. In addition to offering a paycheck, some independence, and satisfaction, a part -time job can provide teenagers with both training and experience. Working teaches students about responsibility and can also reinforce (充实) what they are learning in school. "Colleges want to find candidates who demonstrate maturity, responsibility, independence, and initiative, and good workers certainly demonstrate those important character traits,〞Boshoven says. "Employers can write excellent recommendation letters for the students who have worked for them.〞On the other hand, experts agree that students who work more than 15 to 20 hours per week often experience lessened school success, which can lead to dropping out entirely. Working long hours can also limit opportunities to build friendships and explore interests that enhance a teenager ,s intellectual and emotional development. The major point that students should keep in mind is the importance of balance. Dan Crabtree, college and career counselor at Wheaton Academy in Illinois, explains, "We want our students to establish a healthy balance in life and work to maintain it throughout their lives.〞If working will interfere with completing school work, participating in extracurricular activities, spending time with family and friends, or getting enough rest, it may not be a wise decision.1.

1. stop doing/to dostop to do停止,中断做某事后去做另一件事。

They stop to smoke a cigarette.

I must stop smoking.

[典型例题]She reached the top of the hill and stopped ___on a big rock by the side of the path.A. to have restedB. restingC. to restD. rest答案:C。

因此,应选择“stop to do sth.

2. forget doing/to doforget to do忘记要去做某事。

〔已做〕The light in the office is still on. He forgot to turn it off.

〔没有做关灯的动作〕He forgot turning the light off.

〔已做过关灯的动作〕Don't forget to come tomorrow.

〔to come动作未做〕[典型例题]---- The light in the office is still on.---- Oh,I forgot___.A. turning it offB. turn it offC. to turn it offD. having turned it off答案:C。

由the light is still on 可知灯亮着,即关灯的动作没有发生,因此用forget to do sth.而forget doing sth.

We can see the rising sun.

He is a retired worker.

There was a girl sitting there.

This is the question given.

There is nothing interesting.

Most of the people invited to the party were famous scientists. = Most of the people who were invited to the party were famous scientists. 1)The first textbook ___ for teaching English as a foreign language came out in the 16th century.A. have writtenB. to be writtenC. being writtenD. written答案D。

书与写作是被动关系,应用过去分词作定语表被动,相当于定语从句which was written2)What's the language ____ in Germany?A. speakingB. spokenC. be spokenD. to speak答案B。

What's the language (which is)spoken in German?2.

Not receiving any letter from him, I gave him a call.

As I didn't receive any letter from him, I gave him a call.Given more attention, the trees could have grown better.

If more attention was given, the trees could have grown better. 1)_____ some officials, Napoleon inspected his army.A. FollowedB. Followed byC. Being followedD. Having been followed答案B。

followed by(被……

With some officials following, Napoleon inspected his army.2)There was a terrible noise ___ the sudden burst of light.A. followedB. followingC. to be followedD. being followed答案B。

3)_______, liquids can be changed into gases.A. HeatingB. To be heatedC. HeatedD.

它相当于一个状语从句When it is heated,…

Used for a long time, the book looks old.

Using the book, I find it useful.

连词有:when,while,if though,after, before, as。

While waiting there, he saw two pretty girls come out of the building.

I found my car missing.

I’ll have my watch repaired.

She looked tired with cooking.

He remained standing beside the table.

例如:generally speaking一般说来talking of (speaking of)说道strictly speaking 严格的说judging from 从……判断all things considered 从整体来看taking all things into consideration全面看来例如:Judging from his face, he must be ill.

Generally speaking, dogs can run faster than pigs.

Hearing the news, he jumped with joy.

Arriving there, they found the boy dead.

The secretary worked late into the night, ___a long speech for the president.A. to prepareB. preparingC. preparedD. was preparing答案B。

While walking in the garden,he hurt his leg.

Having finished his homework, he went out.

=As he had finished his homework, he went out.典型例题___ a reply, he decided to write again.A. Not receivingB. Receiving notC. Not having receivedD. Having not received答案C。

Because he had not received a reply, he decided to write again.8.

He is the man giving you the money.(= who gave you…)

He is the man stopped by the car.(= who was stopped by…)

例如:a well-read person一个读过许多书的人a much-traveled man一个去过许多地方的人a burnt-out match 烧完了的火柴【模拟试题】A层次选题:(一)1.
