Lisa Pina never thought she would need the fire safety

On Thursday night, while Pina was babysitting her granddaughter, nephew and two nieces in her sister’s apartment, she smelled smoke and realized the apartment bui lding was on fire. When her 4year old granddaughter Ilean Garcia began saying,“We’re going to die,”she knew she had to act. Pina, first sealed the door, and then told all four children to get on the floor. Many schools have established successful home visit programs. Home visits by teachers let parents and children know how much teachers care. Also, it is a way for teachers to learn more about their students , get the parents to pay more attention to their children’s education and bridge cultural gaps that might exist between students and teachers. Most teachers report that their home visits have a lasting effect on the child, the parents and on parent—teacher communication.
The Head Start program has used home visits for many years. Head Start teachers are required to make at least two home visits for each student, regardless of their ability, during each school year in addition to regular parent-teacher conferences at school. Many U.S. kindergartens also require home visits by teachers before school starts.
The visit approach varies from school to school and usually depends on the funding the source. In some schools, teachers prefer to visit in pairs. They feel more comfortable that way and sometimes need a translator in order to communicate with a child’s parents. Other teachers visit one-on-one with parents. Some interact with both the child and the parent. Many teachers may bring along learning activities for the child that also involve the parents participation. Normally, visits can last from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the teacher and the activities.
When teachers get to know their students and their students’families, the parents become more active in their children’s education. Home visits, not unnecessary as some people think, can give teachers the ideas they need to help all students succeed.

The Red Sea is parting again, but this time no one can help. Satellite pictures show that the A rabian plate and the African plate are moving away from each other, stretching the Earth’s crust(外壳)and widening the southern end of the Red Sea.
Last September, series of earthquakes started splitting(分裂)the planet’s surface in Ethiopia. Over a period of three weeks, the sides on the rift(裂缝)separated by 26 feet.
“We think that the crust is melted slowly at depths greater than 10 kilometers, where it is hotter, forming molten(熔化的)rock,” said Tim J Wright. “This molten rock rises through the crust because it is less dense than the surrounding rock.”
The molten rock collects at depths of 3 to 5 kilom eters. Wright explained, “Slowly, the pressure has been building up until last September when it finally cracked, breaking the crust.”
The entry of molten rock into the gap between continents, rather than the cracking of the crust, is responsible for separation of continent drifts. For the past 30 million years Africa and Arabia have been going through the continental rifting process, the same one that made the Red Sea part again.
“The ground is continually moving---much more rapidly now than before,” Wright said. “On average, the two sides move apart at about 2 centimeters per year.”
This latest split, added to the long-term rifting process could eventually create a huge new sea. Although such processes could take millions of years to occur, this event has given scientists an opportunity to examine the break in real time.
32. According to the passage, what caused Arabia separate from Africa?
A. A series of earthquakes.
B. Molten rock flowing into the continental gap.
C. The cracking of the crust.
D. The pressure under the ground.
33. What is the right order for the following things?
①the pressure cracks ②molten rock forms ③the crust splits ④molten rock rises
A. ①②③④
B. ②①③④
C. ④①②③
D. ②④①③
34. What we can learn from the last paragraph?
A. The scientists have been able to examine the break now.
B. The Red Sea may become an ocean in the future.
C. The ground has stopped moving in the Red Sea area.
D. The Red Sea will never part again.
35. The passage is mainly about______.
A. the earthquakes in Ethiopia
B. the forming of the Red Sea
C. the cause why the Red Sea is parting again
D. the history of the Red Sea

参考范文(除去开头结尾112词):
Dear Zhang Ming,
We are all sorry that you have fallen ill. How are you feeling now?
You needn’t worry about your lessons as we will help you when you come back. Besides, what you should do now is to have a good rest so that you can concentrate on your lessons later.
There is no denying that we are faces with heavy study burden now, since we only have no more than one year to prepare for the College Entrance Examination. However, health is what ensures our success and future. Therefore, we should arrange our time scientifically. Only in this way can we study well, expect a bright future and enjoy a better life. Do you think so?
We are hoping you can be back with us soon.
Best wishes!
