Great Activities for Nature Lovers
Want to get away from the stress in your daily life? Mother Nature can help us find peace and direction in a noisy world. Here are some of the best activities to get in touch with nature.
Hiking
One of the easiest and most accessible ways to get close to nature is by setting out on a good old fashioned hike。
Hiking generally doesn’t require any fancy equipment or special skills; just a sturdy(结实的)pair of boots, a map, and a thirst for adventure。
Backcountry camping
Why limit yourself to just a day hike when you can have a full weekend for longer adventure? Backcountry camping involves packing your tent, sleeping equipment, food and water on your back to set up camp in a remote location. If you're an experienced camper, this is an excellent way to test your survival skills and explore the mysterious
wilderness. Many parks require backpackers to obtain permits, so make sure to register and map your route before stepping on the trail.
Rock climbing
Rock climbing is also one of the best ways to really get in touch with the natural environment. Climbing challenges your mind, tests your personal willpower, and encourages you to work with the forces of nature to accomplish your goals。
You'll definitely need to take a few rock climbing courses, and hire a guide before attempting to climb your own routes。
Gardening
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to travel beyond your own backyard to experience the beauty of nature every day. If your personality is less adventurous or your mobility restricted, consider planting a garden to grow your own vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers。
There’s something truly satisfying about mix ing up a salad with fresh ingredients you grew yourself.

It was Mother’s Day morning last year and I wa s doing my shopping at our local supermarket with my five—year-old son, Teayson. As we were leaving, we found that only minutes earlier an elderly woman had fallen over at the entrance and had hit her bead on the concrete. Her husband was with her, but there was blood everywhere and the woman was embarrassed and clearly in shock。
Walking towards the scene, Tenyson became very upset about what had happened to the couple. Ile said to me。
“Mums it’s not much fun falling over in front of everyone.”
At the front of the supermarket a charity group had set up a stand selling cooked sausages and flowers to raise funds. Tenyson suggested that we should boy the lady a flower。
“It will make her feel better," he said。
I was amazed that he’d come up such a sweet idea。
So we went over to the flower seller and asked her if we could buy a flower for the lady to cheer her up. “Just take it,” she replied. “I can’t take your money for such a wonderful gesture。
”
By now paramedics(救援人员) had arrived, and were attending the injured woman.
As we walked up to her, my son became intimidated by all the blood and medical equipment。
He said he was just too scared to go up to her。
Instead I gave the flower to the woman’s husband and told him. “My son was very
upset for your wife and wanted to give her this flower to make her feel better.”
At that, the old man started crying and said, “Thank you so much, you have a wonderful son, Happy Mother’s Day to you.”
The man then bent down and gave his wife the flower, telling her who it was from. Though badly hurt and shaken, the old lady looked up at Tenyson with love in her eyes
and gave him a little smile.

With golden sunshine and a gentle breeze, autumn is the most beautiful season in
the year. This is a great time to go outside and have fun。
Go to a valley to see red maple trees, go and pick fruit in an orchard or find an open field to fly your kite in。
However, for many high school students, these great activities may be just a dream. With plenty of work to do, they spend all their hours indoors, struggling for a high mark in their exams。
Of course, study is one of the most important things for teenagers. But life is definitely much more than that.
Sometimes we spend so much time studying that we forget how to make life wonderful。
In doing so, we lose the real purpose of life — to be a valuable and happy person。
To enjoy just how great it is to be alive, we have to put down our books and pens and look around us. Students, take some exercise to improve your health, talk with your parents and friends for understanding and walk around outside to refresh your body and mind.
Going out and enjoying the beautiful countryside often helps our creativity in our work. Chinese craftsman, Lu Ban, created a saw to help woodworkers. But if he hadn't walked outside, he would not have been inspired by a kind of toothed grass. We could also suppose if Newton hadn’t rested under that apple tree, then he wouldn't have been hit by an apple, and his classic theories would not have come out。
Going out is not only a break from hard work, but a chance to add to life experience。
So come on, give your brain a good rest. Step out of the books and get your bag ready for an autumn outing。
We are sure you will get much more than knowledge from the exciting journey。

A. Paragraph 1。
B. Paragraph 2.

30. The passage is developed mainly by .
A。

B。

C。

D。
pointing out the present situation of high school students
31. What message can you get from the passage?
A. Going out can make high school students get more.
B. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

A new keyboard can tell whether you are its owner。
The keyboard records information about the typing pattern and sends it to a computer program. The program then checks to see if the pattern matches the right user, if not, an alarm sounds, and the computer locks the typist out。
It locks out anyone else, even if that person knows password。
What’s more, this device needs no batteries。
It harvests all the energy it needs
from the action of your typing. Besides, the keyboard is also self-cleaning and the keys are free of damage from water, oil and dirt.
The keys of the new keyboard are made of the same inexpensive plastic that might be found on any other standard keyboard。
But instead of being smooth, the keys have millions of tiny plastic nanowires (纳米线) on their surface area to every key, increasing the effective contact area between the plastic and fingers。
This ensures that there's enough power to run the keyboard as someone types。
Liming Dai, a scientist , did not work on the new keyboard ,but he thinks the design could be important in getting better performance from a variety of devices。
” It could also be applied to a touch screen, for instance," Dai says. “ Then smartphones and notepads could harvest energy from the action of someone typing or drawing。
”
“Future work might make the keyboard even more useful," Dai adds.” A later design might build tiny capacitors (电容器) onto the nanowires,” he suggests. Capacitors are little devices that temporarily store electric charges。
Those might then LEDs to light a Keyboard in the dark.
Zhonglin Wang is a co-designer of the new keyboard. His team has built a working model of the keyboard.” If a company decides to fund its production, this keyboard could be in stores in as little as two years。
” says W ang。

By matching the typing pattern to the right user.
D. By recording information about the typing pattern.
33。
Why are there many nanowires on the surface of the keys?
A。
To help produce power. B。
To make the keys beautiful。

M: Jane, the new swimming pool is open at the Student Center. Let's go experience it! (8)
W:I’d like to, Tom,but I have a paper due on Friday, and I haven’t even started it yet.
M: Just an hour.
W: I do need the exercise, but I just can’t spare the time.
M: Okay, how about dinner at the Grill? You have to eat something, and it's right by the library. I'll go over there with you after dinner, and you can do your research while I study for my tomorrow’s test. (9)
W: That would be nice, but.。
M: Look,we really wouldn’t be wasting any time. We’d just be doing everything we need to do.
W: Okay。
I’ll meet you at t he Grill about six。
Is that all right?
M: Great.

M: Hi, Mrs。
Martin! Guess what?!I’ve decided that I want to play a sport. I’m thinking about joining one of the teams at school。
W: That's a great idea, Joe! Which sport do you want to play?
M:I’m not sure which one I’d be good at。
I can run really fast, (10)but I’m not very good at throwing or catching a ball。
W: Hmm, well, you probably shouldn’t play baseball or football, then。
And you wouldn’t be very good at basketball, either.
M: Is there a swim team?Maybe I’d be better at that。
W:We were supposed to have a swim team this year, but we didn’t get enough money。
(11)I’m sorry, Joe!
M: Oh well。
I guess I can find something else to do. Thanks for your advice。
W: No problem. Maybe we can look at the different clubs on campus you could join instead.
(12) Can you come back to see me after class?I’ll be in the School Volunteers office. Text 9
W:This is the last apartment we have in your price range,(13)and it is by far the nicest of the three。
You can see it has a great view over the city, and it is
a good price considering its place。
M:Wow, that's a great view over the harbor! (13)
W: Isn't it? And i t’s got everything - washing machine, dryer,dishwasher…you name it。
M: Hmm. I wonder how I would get my furniture all the way up to the 13th floor, though。
W: There’s an elevator for that.
M: Okay. What about the bills? (14)
W:Heating and water are included in the rent, although electricity, cable TV, and Internet access are not。
(14) Rent is $3000 per month. (15)
M: All right。
The first place we looked at included everything, correct? The basement suite? (15)
W: Yes, although prices are a little different outside the city. That's why it’s $1600 cheaper. (15)
M: I see。
And the studio? (16) That was $2000 a month, right?
W: Yes, but I seem to remember you saying you were worried about the noise at night, due to all the bars close by. (16)
M:True. (16) Well, I have a lot to think about. Thank you for your time。

Thank you for listening to my presentation on Dolly Parton today。
I'm not using a PowerPoint,so you might want to take a few notes because I’m going to tell you some interesting things. Let’s start with her background. Yes, many country singers start out from poor backgrounds, but Doll y Parton’s family was so poor that when she was born, her father paid the doctor with a bag of corn。
She loved singing, but when she was asked to sing on a local TV show, her mean classmates locked her in the classroom so she would miss her chance。
(17) She moved to Nashville after high school and got a job writing songs, (18)though she is most recognized for her performance skills now.Being famous hasn’t always been easy, of course。
Even if she changes her hair and clothing style, people always recognize her voice。
(19)But unlike some stars, she has kept close to her home。
She started a business in the poor city where she was born, and she also started a program that gives free books to poor children。
If this information sounds too strange to be true, you should look it up and read about this interesting country singer yourself。
(20)I hope you’ll all be inspired by knowing more about her life story.。
