2. I'm not the kind of mother who normally brushes her daughter's hair, and my daughter has never liked sitting there, waiting for me to do it.
But today, I set my daughter Sally on a kitchen stool (凳子). She's sitting high with her eyes closed, skin still wet from the shower, and her long hair behind her back. I realize she is enjoying the moment. It's the last time for a week that our bodies will connect. Today I'm sending Sally away for a week of summer camp. This was all my idea. She's nearly 12, and I
noticed that I'm with my child nearly 24 hours a day.
Living on a farm without any neighbors, I've chosen a life that is quieter than a normal family's. But rather than expecting space away from me, Sally has become increasingly dependent. What frightens me most is that she has become a"mini﹣me", even has the same hobbies, dreams, and opinions as me. That's why I pulled her to the summer camp: a nearby wilderness(荒野) camp called Hawk Circle.
After eating, I drive Sally to Hawk Circle. Once we get there, we are introduced to her fellow campers. Sally stands by them, holding my hand, ________ in her eyes, trying to work up the courage to join a game of soccer. "I need you for a few more minutes, " she tells me. I pull her away to walk to one of the camp's workers."Excuse me, "I say loudly, "I'd like to introduce you to my daughter. Maybe you could help her meet a few of these kids." He comes over to talk to Sally, and then I disappear before she realizes it.
It is a hard time for me to drive back. When I arrive home, I calm down and remind myself why I chose this way. I want Sally to have a chance to find herself. I want to learn who she is. If I don't set her free, I'll never really meet her real personality.

3. A new study shows students who write notes by hand during classes perform better on exams than those who use laptops (笔记本).
Students are increasingly using laptops for note﹣taking because of speed and legibility (清晰度). But the research has found laptop users are less able to remember and use the concepts(概念)they have been taught.
Researchers performed experiments that aimed to find out whether using a laptop is more likely to make notes" mindlessly" by taking down word for word what the teachers said.
In the first experiment, students were given either a laptop or pen and paper. They listened to the same classes and were told to use their usual note﹣taking sills. Thirty minutes after the talk, they were examined on their ability to remember facts and on how well they understood concepts. The researchers found that took twice as many notes as
those who wrote by hand. However, the laptop users performed worse at remembering and using the concepts. Both groups similarly when it came to memorizing facts.
In another experiment aimed at testing long﹣term memory, students took notes as before but were tested a week after the class. This time, the students who wrote notes by hand performed much better on the exam.
These two experiments suggest that handwritten notes are not only better for immediate learning and understanding, but that they also lead to a better performance in the future.

4. You and I can tell one face from another easily, but can computers do the same with few mistakes? At an earlier time time, many thought ________was impossible, but progress in facial recognition(识别)software has made it come true. Technology is quickly catching up with the human ability to read faces.
Some facial recognition systems use a digital picture and measure(测量)different points on the face. Measurement include the distance between the eyes, the width of the nose, the length of the jaw(下巴)line and more. A detailed map, or face print, of the face is developed, stored and later used as a basis for comparison and matching.
Some government agencies, airports and banks. use facial recognition technology for safety purposes. Apple and Facebook use it to provide their users with added convenience. For example, Apple's new iPhone is expected to use it to unlock the home screen. Other companies use it to help them in better recognizing their customers' needs. For example some stores are checking into the use of the technology to catch sight of return customers. Then they can offer special deals, based on the customers' buying habits.
In America, facial recognition is used by universities to check students' attendance. This year Welsh police used it to catch a terrorist outside a football game. In China it checks on the identities of ride﹣hailing drivers, permits tourists to enter some places of interest quickly and lets people pay for thing with a smile.
While some systems are used with the knowledge of the persons, others aren't. and that raises worries. For many people, however, convenience outbalances the worries, in other words, meaning that facial recognition technology is likely here to stay.
