简单句和复合句之间的转换(二)
1.用介词短语把状语从句转换为简单句。

(1)由when,before,after等引导的时间状语从句,可以用相应的介词短语来代替。

例如:
We’ll play football when school is over.
→We’ll play football after school.放学后我们要踢足球。

You must wash your hands before you have meals.
→You must wash your hands before meals.吃饭前你必须洗手。

(2)由if,unless引导的条件状语从句,可以用由without构成的介词短语来代替。

例如:
People can’t live if there is no air or water.
→People can’t live without air or water.没有空气和水,人类不能生存。

(3)由because引导的原因状语从句,可以用由because of构成的介词短语来代替。

例如:
We didn’t g o there because it rained heavily.
→We didn’t go there because of the heavy rain.由于下大雨,我们没有去那里。

(4)由(as...) as引导的比较状语从句,有时可以用“be of the same+名词”结构来代替。

例如:
Lily is as old as Lucy.
→Lily and Lucy are of the same age.莉莉和露西年龄一样大。

2.用介词短语把宾语从句转换为简单句。

某些动词后的宾语从句,可以转换为“介词+动名词(短语)”的形式。

例如:
He insisted that he should go with us.
→He insisted on going with us.他坚持要和我们一起去。

The poor boy doesn’t know when and where he was born.
→The poor boy doesn’t know the time and the place of his birth.那个可怜的男孩不知道他出生的时间和地点。

3.用介词短语把定语从句转换为简单句。

如果定语从句中的谓语动词have表示“有”的含义,从句可转换成由with构成的介词短语作后置定语。

例如:
He is a man who has a lot of money.
→He is a man with a lot of money.他是个有钱人。

Ⅰ.将下列复合句改为简单句
1.Are you sure that they are interested in it?
Are you sure about their interest in it ?
2.I’ve reminded him when we will have the party.
I’ve reminded him of/about the time of the party .
3.At Halloween you will see lots of people who wear special costumes.
At Halloween you will see lots of people in special costumes .
4.The pianist began to learn to play the piano when he was four years old.
The pianist began to learn to play the piano at (the age of) four .
5.He works even harder than before so that he can go to a good college.
He works even harder than before in order to/so as to go to a good college.
Ⅱ.将下列简单句改为复合句
1.She couldn’t go to bed early because of too much homework.
She couldn’t go to bed early because she had too much homework.
2.He can’t work out the problem without help.
He can’t work out the problem if he has no help.
3.I want to buy a house with a big garden.
I want to buy a house which has a big garden.
4.Do you know the girl in a red skirt there?
Do you know the girl who is in a red skirt there?
5.She learnt to dance at the age of six.
She learnt to dance when she was six years old.。
