Dear Pen Pal,
Hi! My name is Emma and I'm 8 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School. I'm so excited to tell you all about my school days!
Every morning, my mom wakes me up at 7am. I get dressed in my favorite outfit - usually a shirt with a rainbow or unicorn and some comfy jeans. Then I go downstairs and eat a big breakfast like pancakes or waffles with fruit. My dad makes the best breakfast ever!
After breakfast, I brush my teeth really well and put on my backpack. It's bright pink with sparkles and has my name written on it. Inside I pack my lunchbox, folders, pencils, crayons, and any homework I need to turn in.
At 8am, I walk out the door and my dad drives me to school. The ride takes about 10 minutes. I look out the window and watch for my school as we get closer. I get so excited when I see the big red brick building and playground!
When we arrive, my dad pulls up to the front doors. I give him a hug and kiss goodbye. Then I join the line of kids waiting to go inside. My best friend Sophia is always there to walk in with me. We talk about our evenings and what we're excited for that day.
The bell rings at 8:30am and we all shuffle inside. We hang our backpacks and jackets on the hooks in the hallway outside our classroom. My teacher Mrs. Miller stands at the door and says good morning to each of us.
Once we're all seated at our desks, Mrs. Miller does attendance and we say the Pledge of Allegiance together. After that, we have a different special each day - music, art, gym, library, or computer lab. Those are my favorite times!
For the rest of the morning we have math, reading, and writing lessons. Math is probably my hardest subject because I get mixed up with my multiplication tables sometimes. But I love reading time! We just started a book called Charlotte's Web about a pig and a spider who are best friends. Isn't that the craziest thing?
At 11:30am, we clean up for lunch. We all pack our own lunches from home. My favorite is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, apple slices, Goldfish crackers, and a juice box. We get
to eat in the cafeteria and then have recess right after. The playground has so much fun stuff - swings, slides, jungle gyms, and big fields to run around. I'm always sad when the bell rings to line up and head back inside.
In the afternoon, we have science, social studies, and more reading and writing practice. Science is awesome because we get to do experiments! Last week we built volcanoes out of vinegar and baking soda. What a crazy eruption that was!
Finally at 3pm, the ending bell rings. We gather our things and Mrs. Miller walks our class out to the pickup area. I watch carefully for my mom's red car to pull up. Once I see her, I wave goodbye to my friends and run to give her a big hug. She always asks me about my day on the drive home.
When I get home, I have a snack like string cheese and carrots with ranch. Then I relaxin the playroom and watch a little TV before starting my homework. I have to read for 30 minutes, do a math worksheet, and work on whatever writing assignment we have. Sometimes it's a lot, but I try my best to get it all done before dinner.
After homework, I get to play outside or with my toys until my dad gets home from work around 6pm. We all eat dinner
together, maybe tacos or spaghetti. My favorite part is dessert - my mom makes the yummiest cookies and ice cream!
Once it gets close to 8pm, I start getting ready for bed. I take a bath, brush my teeth again, put on my PJs, and pick out a few books for my parents to read to me. I'm usually super tired by the time they tuck me in around 9pm.
Then I wake up the next day and get to do it all over again! School days are always busy but so much fun. I love learning new things, playing with my friends at recess, and exploring the world bit by bit. A kid's life is pretty great.
I hope you enjoyed hearing all about my typical school day. Write back soon and tell me what going to school is like where you live! I'd love to hear all about it.
Your Pen Pal,
Emma

Dear Pen Pal,
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School. I'm so excited to tell you all about my school and what a typical day is like for me!
My day starts really early because the school bus comes to pick me up at 7:30 am. I have to wake up at 6:45 to get dressed, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, and get my backpack ready. The bus ride takes about 25 minutes. I like looking out the window and watching the neighborhood go by.
When I get to school, I go straight to my classroom and put my backpack in my cubby. We have these cool cubbies that are like little lockers just for our class. I put my lunchbox on the shelf too. Then I go pick up a free reading book from the class library and read quietly at my desk until the morning bell rings at 8:15.
Our first class of the day is always math. I really like math because I'm good at it and I find it fun to solve problems. We learn stuff like adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, fractions, and shapes. Sometimes we play games on the Smart Board to practice our skills. After math, we have a 15 minute snack and recess break.
Recess is my favorite time of day! We get to go out to the playground and run around, play on the swings and slides, or play fun games like tag or four square. I have a lot of good friends that I hang out with at recess. We just laugh and be silly and get all our energy out.
After recess, we have language arts class where we learn reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and do fun activities like round robin reading, plays, or journaling. I love reading adventure books and writing creative stories. Next up is science or social studies, which alternate each day. In science, we learn about plants, animals, the human body, weather, and do cool experiments. Social studies is where we learn geography, history, maps, and about different cultures around the world.
Then it's time for lunch and another recess! I always get the hot lunch which is stuff like pizza, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, or pasta. They also have fruits, veggies, and milk. After I eat, I go back outside to play for 30 more minutes. I'm usually pretty tired after lunch recess!
In the afternoon, we have "specials" class which rotates each day between music, art, computer lab, gym, and library. Those are all really fun classes where we get to do different activities. Like in music we learn songs and get to play instruments. Art is my absolute favorite special - I love drawing, painting, making clay projects, and all the different crafts we get to do.
Finally, we end the day with some quiet reading time and a closing circle where we talk about our day and share things we learned or announcements. The dismissal bell rings at 3:15pm. I
take the bus home, and after a healthy snack, I play outside for a little while before starting my homework. I usually have math worksheets and spelling words to practice each night.
Once my homework is all done, I get to relax and have dinner with my family. Then maybe watch a little TV, play some games, take a bath, and get ready for bed. School definitely keeps me busy but I have so much fun learning new things every day!
I sure hope you enjoyed learning all about my typical school day. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'd love to hear what your days are like too. Can't wait for your next letter!
Your friend,
Jamie

Dear Pen Pal,
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School and I can't wait to tell you all about it! Get ready for a fun adventure as I take you on a tour of my awesome school.
Let's start at the front entrance. There are these huge oak trees lining the sidewalk leading up to the big double doors. I love how their branches stretch up towards the sky like they're trying to tickle the clouds! When you walk inside, the first thing you see is the main office. That's where the friendly secretaries sit behind a big desk. They always have a bowl of lollipops to hand out to kids who do good deeds. Score!
Just past the office is the library, which is my favorite place ever. The bookshelves are stuffed with so many cool books - mysteries, adventures, joke books, you name it! In the back corner there's a little nook with squashy beanbag chairs that's perfect for diving into a new story. Sometimes I'll grab an armful of books, plop down in one of those beanbags, and totally lose track of time getting lost in different worlds.
Down the hall from the library are all the classrooms. My classroom (#112) is towards the end of the hall on the right. As soon as you walk in, there are cubbies along the back wall where we keep our backpacks and lunchboxes. Above the cubbies there are strings with clips hanging down, and we use those to hang up our artwork and writing assignments to put on display. The whole room is super colorful and decorated with alphabet
posters, number lines, maps, and all kinds of fun educational stuff.
At the front of the classroom is the teacher's desk and a huge dry-erase board that takes up almost the whole wall. That's where Mrs. Appleton writes down our lessons and where we go up to work out math problems and stuff. To the left of the
dry-erase board, there's a big green chalkboard that we use for drawing and hangman games.
In the middle of the room, there are six round tables where we all sit with our group during lessons. I really like sitting at the tables because it feels way more fun than having individual desks. We can lean over and whisper to our friends whenever we want! Although Mrs. Appleton says we aren't supposed to do that too much...hehe. My favorite part is at the end of the day when we push all the tables together to make one big super-table for storytime. We call it the "storytime table" and we all crowd around it while Mrs. Appleton reads us a chapter from the current class novel we're reading.
Okay, let's head outside to the playground! We get to go out for recess twice a day - once in the morning and once after lunch. The playground is HUGE with so much stuff to do. There are swings, slides, jungle gyms, tetherball poles, basketball hoops,
and all kinds of fun equipment to play on. My favorite is probably the spinning merry-go-round thing. You run around and around in a circle pushing it until it starts spinning really fast. Then you can jump on and go whirling and whirling until you feel a little dizzy! Just don't jump off until it stops, or you might go flying!
Around the playground, there are some picnic tables under the shade of these tall oak trees where we can sit and eat our snacks during recess. That shady area is a nice break from running around in the hot sun. Sometimes teachers will take their classes out there to have outdoor lessons when the weather is beautiful.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about the cafeteria! It's off to the side of the main building in its own little wing. That's where we go to eat our lunch every day. There are tons of long tables set up where we all sit with our classmates. The lunch ladies are really nice and serve up different hot meals every day, like chicken nuggets, pizza, tacos, and more. There's also a salad bar and a few different sides to pick from. My favorite is the tater tots - those crispy little potato puffs are sooooo good!
After we're done eating, there's a few minutes left in the lunch period where we can go out to the playground again for
recess. Then it's back to class for more learning in the afternoon. Speaking of learning, we have lots of awesome special classes and activities too! Every week, we have art, music, gym, computer lab, and library time. Those special classes are my favorite part of the week.
In art, we get to do all kinds of fun projects like painting, drawing, sculpting with clay, and more. I'm terrible at drawing, but I do love getting messy with the paints and making creative designs. We have a big sink in the art room for washing up afterwards so we don't go back to class covered in paint!
Then there's music class where we learn how to sing songs and play instruments like xylophones, drums, and even recorders! I'm not very good at playing the recorder yet, but it's still fun trying to learn. We also get to dance and move around acting out different rhythms and beats. You should see me busting out my awesome dance moves!
Oh man, gym class is probably the most fun of them all! We get to play all the great games like dodgeball, kickball, capture the flag, and my personal favorite - GAGA BALL! Have you ever played Gaga? It's this really cool game where you get in a circle and try to roll a ball to hit people's feet or legs to get them out.
The last one standing wins! Our gym teacher, Mr. Rodriguez, is the best and always gets us pumped up to run around like crazy.
The computer lab is also super cool. We learn things like coding, typing, making PowerPoint presentations, and all about using technology. I haven't quite mastered typing with all my fingers yet, but I'm a way faster typer than I used to be already! Maybe I'll grow up to be a famous computer programmer or something.
Lastly, we have library time once a week where we get to go browse the shelves and check out new books to take back to our classrooms. Our librarian, Mrs. Potter, is really nice and always eager to help us find the perfect book to dive into.
Whew, that was a lot of stuff to cover! I guess in a nutshell, my school Oakwood Elementary is simply the best. The teachers are great, the classes are tons of fun, and there's always something exciting happening. I really love going to school each day to learn and play with all my friends. Sometimes I wish the weekends didn't have to come so I could just spend every day at school!
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading all about my awesome school. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'd love to
hear what your school is like too so we can compare. Can't wait for your next letter!
Your friend,
Jamie

Here's a letter to a penfriend introducing going to school, written in English from a child's perspective, about 2000 words long:
Dear Penfriend,
Hi! My name is Emma and I'm 8 years old. I live in a small town called Oakville. Today I want to tell you all about going to my school because it's really fun and exciting!
Every morning, my mom wakes me up at 7 o'clock. I get dressed in my favorite outfit - usually a pink shirt with rainbows and unicorns, and some colorful shorts or a skirt. Then I brush my teeth and hair, and go downstairs for breakfast. My favorite is pancakes with maple syrup and berries!
After breakfast, I put on my backpack and get ready to go. My backpack is bright blue with purple polka dots. It has a picture of my favorite cartoon character, Princess Priscilla, on the
front. Inside, I pack my lunchbox, some pencils and crayons, and any homework I need to turn in.
The best part of my morning is waiting for the school bus! I live a few blocks away from the school, so I get picked up by the big yellow bus. I love seeing my friends get on one by one. We always wave to each other excitedly from the bus windows.
When the bus arrives at Cherry Blossom Elementary School, we all get off and line up by class. My teacher's name is Ms. Garcia and she's really nice. She always has a big smile and gives us stickers if we do good work.
The first thing we do is put our backpacks away and sit on the colorful rug for the morning meeting. We sing fun songs about the days of the week and months of the year. Sometimes we even do silly dances!
Then we have reading time where Ms. Garcia reads us a story from a big picture book. My favorite stories are about animals or magic adventures. After the story, we talk about what happened and what we liked best.
Next is math time where we learn about numbers, shapes, patterns, and problem solving. We use fun manipulatives like
counting bears, pattern blocks, and number lines to help us. Sometimes we even play math games on the classroom tablets!
My favorite part of the day is art class! We have a special art teacher, Mr. Ross, who comes to our classroom once a week. He teaches us how to paint, draw, sculpt with clay, and make all sorts of creative projects. I love getting messy with the paints and using my imagination.
We also have music class where we sing songs and learn about different instruments. Last week, we even got to play the tambourines! Physical education is fun too - we play games like tag, do obstacle courses, and practice throwing and catching balls.
Around noon, we line up to go to the cafeteria for lunch. My lunch box usually has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple, some carrots, and a juice box. After we eat, we go outside to the playground and run around, swing, slide, and play games with our friends.
In the afternoon, we have science where we learn about nature, the human body, weather, and do cool experiments. We also have social studies and learn about communities, maps, traditions, and people from around the world.
Finally, we end the day by cleaning up our desks and packing up our backpacks to go home. We sit on the rug again and Ms. Garcia reads us one more story before dismissal.
When the final bell rings, we line up again and meet our parents or get on the bus to go home. I'm always tired after a busy day at school, but I had so much fun learning and playing with my friends!
That's what a typical day is like for me going to Cherry Blossom Elementary. School is the best because I get to learn new things, be creative, play at recess, and spend time with all my friends and favorite teachers. I hope you enjoy school just as much as I do!
Write back soon and tell me what YOUR school is like. I can't wait to hear all about it!
Your Penfriend,
Emma

Dear Pen Pal,
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 8 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School. I'm so excited to tell you all about my school days!
Every morning, my mom wakes me up at 7am. I get dressed in my school uniform - navy blue pants and a white polo shirt with the Oakwood logo. Then I brush my teeth and eat breakfast. My favorite is waffles with syrup and bananas!
At 8am, mom drives me to school. The big yellow school bus also comes to pick up kids on my street. I like riding the bus sometimes because I can sit with my friends. We talk and laugh and look out the windows at all the houses and trees going by.
When I get to school, I go straight to my classroom and put away my backpack and lunchbox. My teacher is Mrs. Anderson and she's really nice. She has blonde hair and always wears pretty dresses. As soon as the bell rings at 8:30am, we all stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance together.
Then we have our first lesson of the day - usually reading or math. In reading, we're learning about different genres of books like fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and more. We read fun stories together as a class. In math, we're working on adding and subtracting bigger numbers. I'm getting really good at it!
After our first lesson, we get a 15 minute snack and recess break. I like to eat an apple or granola bar and then play on the swings or jump rope with my friends. Recess is my favorite part of the day because we can run around and get our wiggles out before sitting still again.
Once we're back in the classroom, we have lesson time again - often science, social studies, or writing. Science is cool because we get to do experiments. Like last week, we made little volcanoes erupt with baking soda and vinegar! For social studies, we're learning about the states and capitals of America. I've almost got them all memorized. Writing is when we practice our handwriting skills and write short stories or journal entries.
At 11:30am, we get ready to go to the cafeteria for lunch. We line up quietly and walk down the hallway in a straight line. I always get the hot lunch because I love the chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, and cookies! After we eat, we get to go out to recess again for 30 minutes to run off some energy before afternoon classes.
When we get back to the classroom, we have one more lesson - usually art, music, computers, or gym. Art is messy but fun because we get to paint, draw, sculpt with clay, and be creative. Music is great too because we learn new songs and get
to play instruments like xylophones and drums. In computer class, we practice typing and learn how to use programs. Gym is my least favorite because I'm not very athletic, but I still like playing games like dodgeball and doing fun exercises.
Finally at 3pm, the bell rings for the end of the day! I pack up my backpack and wait for my mom to come pick me up. Sometimes I go to after-school care at the YMCA until my parents get off work. There, I can play games, do crafts, have snacks, and even get homework help.
After I get home from school, I have a snack like apple slices with peanut butter, then I relax for a little bit by watching a show or playing outside if it's nice out. Around 5pm, I start my homework - usually just a sheet of math problems and spelling words to practice. I like to get it done right away so I can have the rest of the evening to play before bedtime at 8pm.
School days go by so quickly! I learn a ton of new things every day. My favorite subjects are art and reading. I've made so many good friends too. I love going to school and I'm sure going to be sad when summer vacation comes!
Well that's about all I can fit into this letter about my typical school day. I hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I
enjoyed telling you! Let me know if you have any other questions. Can't wait to hear back from you about your school!
Your Pen Pal,
Jamie。
