A
There was a man playing the piano in a bar. He was a good piano player and always performed in this bar. People came in just to hear him play. But one night, a customer told him that he didn't want to hear him just play the piano any more. He wanted him to sing a song.
The man said, "I don't sing."
But the customer was persistent (执意的). He told the bar manager, "I'm tired of listening to the piano. I want that man to sing!"
The manager shouted across the room, "If you want to get paid, sing a song. Our
customers are asking you to sing !"
So he did. He sang a song. A piano player who had never sung in public did so for the first time. And everyone was surprised by his song Mona Lisa. He got lots of applause (掌声) that night.
He had such a talent for singing, but he just had been sitting on his talent for the past years! If without such a chance, he may have lived the rest of his life as a no-name piano player in a no-name bar. However, now he has become one of the best-known singers in America.
You, too, have skills and abilities. Maybe your "talent" is not as great as the singer above, but it may be better than you think ! And with effort, most skills can be improved. So, in your life, you should be brave enough to try doing different things and find out what talents you really have!
21. Why did the man start to sing?
A. Because he wanted to make more money.
B. Because the bar manager said he liked his song.
C. Because the manager asked him to sing at the request of a customer.

22. What do you think of the bar manager?
A. Strict.
B. Rude.
C. Patient.
D. Kind.
23. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Some people really have no skills or abilities.

C. Sometimes through effort we can know our talents.
D. No skills can be improved even if you try your best.

I like music. I think maybe most people like it as much as I do. I believe other people would have the same feeling towards music. For me, music can always make me feel happy and relaxed. Sometimes when I feel very depressed, or suffer setbacks,
music can do its magic which helps me through unpleasant mood. Music makes me feel quiet and peaceful. Furthermore, it has the power to revive my spirit. So I can imagine if there's no music in the world, how boring and colourless our world might be.
There are so many different styles of music, such as pop, classical, rock, heavy metal and so on. Maybe everyone has the different taste and likes the different style. Even though music gives us different effects in different conditions, one thing can be ensured for us that music can help us release the pressure when we feel nervous or reduce pressures on our shoulders. And it can depurate(净化) our heart. When we feel happy, we can listen to some music which makes us happier: if we feel sad and frustrated, we can choose the music which gives us power and makes us refreshed. If we are introverted people, we can listen to the music which makes us more outgoing.
Above all, I've stated so many effects of music. We have so many beautiful melodies in the world which could make our life more and more pleasant. So I think we should thank the people who create music, who use rhythms to express various feelings and things as we use articles and languages to express our thinking. So nice! They create the great music, while music makes our world even better. I love music forever!
28. What is not the reason for the author's love for music?
A. Music can always make the author feel happy and relaxed.
B. Music helps the author through unpleasant mood.
C. Music gives the author great imagination.
D. Music makes the author feel quiet and peaceful.

B. Music gives us a similar effect in many conditions.
C. Music can help us to reduce our pressure.
D. Music can sometimes hurt our heart.
30. How can we understand the underlined word"introverted" in the second paragraph?
A. Depressed.
B. Delighted.
C. Confused.
D. Quiet and shy.
31. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Music can help us to be healthy.
B. We can't live without music.
C. There are many kinds of music in the world.
D. Music makes our life pleasant.
D
As you grow older, you'll be faced with some challenging decisions—like whether
to cut class or try cigarettes. Making decisions on your own is hard enough, but when other people get involved and try to pressure you one way or another, it can be even harder. People who are your age, like your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, or get you to do something, it's called peer pressure.
Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system. Maybe you got others excited about your new favourite book, and now everyone's reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other.
Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them; your soccer friend might try to convince you to be mean to another player and never pass him the ball.
It is tough to be the only one who says/' no" to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.
You've probably had a parent or teacher advising you to "choose your friends wisely". Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who don't cut class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won't do these things either, even if other kids do.
If you continue to face peer pressure and you're finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you trust. Don't feel guilty if you've made a mistake or two.
32. For whom is the passage most probably written?
A. Students.
B. Parents.
C. Teachers.
D. Doctors.
33. In the last three paragraphs, the author mainly .

34. Which of the following may help handle peer pressure?
A. Spending more time with classmates.
B. Taking up more relaxing hobbies.
C. Choosing friends with no bad habits.
D. Helping others who are in trouble.
35. What is the topic of the passage?
A. Friendship.
B. Making decisions.
