Nowadays there is a growing concern over the reform of high-school English education. More than half students support the idea of reform for it gives them hope for future studies. It is not hard to find that there is something wrong with English learning and teaching.
English has become an important tool to study, work or live with, though, students who are willing to learn have lost interest in English learning. What has caused this phenomenon? In high school, English teachers concentrate their minds on how to let students pass exams. Such education helps students learn how to get high score in exams instead of how to master that language better. What’s more, students who learn English well do not know why they study that language and what they can do with it. We can easily know the fact that many students do not like such kind of teaching, so how can we solve this problem?
There is no doubt that we need to change the ways of teaching. A teacher should not be so strict with his students because it will make students feel much stressful. Besides, English teaching should refer to some English cultures. As there are so many attractive things in English-speaking countries, teachers can make English learning colorful by stories, movies or music, so that students will become interesting in learning this language. Taught by this way, students will learn more about
English language than grammar and reading. It is such an idea that worth being put into action.。
