10 Beijing Library
The world's third largest library opens in Beijing. China's New National Library Building, also known as Beijing Library，puzzled visitors and readers when it was，opened to the public early this month.
Positioned in Beijing’s western suburbs, the new library covers 140，000 square metres of floor space．The old 35，000-square-metre library building in the city，is now a branch library．The new Beijing Library united with the old library；is the third largest in the world，next to the U．S．Library of Congress and Britain's National Library．
The old Beijing Library was founded in 1909，over 80
years old．As years went by, it failed to meet the growing demands of readers because of its limited space．Many books had to be stored away and often readers had to wait for months for a best seller．There were only 800 seats in the reading一room．Construction on the new building started nine years ago．More than 290 million yuan invested in the project. The new library with 3，000 seats in 33 reading一rooms owns more than 15 million books．
