Our “Mommy and Me” time began two years ago. My nextdoor neighbor and fellow mother, Christie, and I were out in our front yards, watching seven children of age 6 and under ride their bikes up and down. “I wish I could take one of my children out alone,” said Christie.
Then we worked out a plan: When Christie takes one of her children out, I’ll watch her other three. And when she watches two of mine, I’ll take someone out.
The children were extremely quick to accept the idea of “Mommy and Me” time. Christie’s daughter, McKenzie, went first. When she returned, the other children showered her with tons of questions. McKenzie was smiling happily. Christie looked excited. “She’s like a different child when there’s no one else around,” Christi e shared with me quietly. With her mother all to herself, McKenzie didn’t have to make an effort to gain attention.
Just as Christie had noticed changes in McKenzie, I also discovered something different in each of my children during our alone times. For example, I am always surprised when my daughter, who is seldom close to me, holds my hand frequently. My stuttering(口吃)son, Tom, doesn’t stutter once during our activities since he doesn’t have to struggle for a chance to speak. And the other son, Sam, who’s always a follower when around other children shines as a leader during our times together.
The “Mommy and Me” time allows us to be simply alone and away with each childtalking, sharing, and laughing, which has been the biggest gain. Every child deserves to be an only child at least once in a while.

C. it’s tiring to look after three children
D. parents should watch others’ children
27. What is one of the changes the author finds in her children?
A. The daughter acts like a leader.
B. Sam holds her hand more often.
C. Tom has less difficulty in speaking.
D. The boys bee better followers.
C
As puters bee more popular in China, Chinese people are increasingly relying on puter keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the puter too much, they may end up forgetting how to write each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand m ore or type more? In Beijing, students start using a puter as early as primary school. And puters are more widelyused among university students. Almost all their homework and papers are typed on a puter.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a puter. It’s faster and easier to correct if using a puter. And that’s why puters are being used in modern education. But when people are taking stock in puters increasingly, problems appear.
“When I’m writing with a pen, I find I often can’t remember how to write a character, though I feel I’m familiar with it.”
“I’m not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper.”
Many students don’t feel this is something to worry about. Now that it’s more convenient and efficient to write on a puter, why bother to handwrite?
Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said, “Chinese characters enjoy both practical and artistic value. But those characters typed with puter keyboards o nly have their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is
lost. And handwriting contains t he writer’s feelings. Through one’s handwriting, people can know one’s thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression(印象)of them.”
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes pulsory(必修的)and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and papers written by hand.
28. Why do all the students interviewed prefer to write using a puter?
A. They are asked to email their homework and essays.
B. They can correct the mistakes quickly and easily.
C. They found it difficult to remember how to write a character.
D. puters have bee a trend and fashion in China.
29. The underlined part “taking stock in” in paragraph 3 probably means _____.
A. getting dependent on
B. getting bored with
C. getting involved with
D. getting curious about
30. What conclusion can we draw from the text?
A. More and more students will give up writing on a puter.
B. Writing by hand will give way to typing by puter one day.
C. The typing article better expresses one’s emotion and quality.
D. More and more students will pay attention to handwriting.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. To type or To Hand Write
B. The Importance of Handwriting and Typing
C. Writing by puter Will Replace Writing by Hand
D. Practical and Aesthetic Value of Chinese Characters
D
The sharing economy, represented(代表)by panies like Airbnb or Uber, is the latest hit. But many supporters haven’t noticed that this new business is largely based on escaping regulations(规则)and breaking the law.
Airbnb is an Internetbased service that allows people to rent out spare rooms to strangers for short stays. Uber is an Internet taxi service that allows thousands of people to answer ride requests with their own cars.
The good thing about the sharing economy is that it uses resources in a better way. Millions of people have apartments with empty rooms, and Airbnb allows them to make money from these rooms while allowing guests a place to stay at prices much cheaper than hotels. Uber offers prices that are petitive with standard taxi prices and their drivers are often much quicker.
But the downside of the sharing economy has gotten much less attention. Most cities and states both tax(收税) and regulate hotels while houses from Airbnb just escape the tax and regulations.
Airbnb can also raise issues of safety for its customers and trouble for hosts’neighbors. Hotels are regularly inspected to ensure that there are no fire traps and that they don’t form other risks for visitors. Airbnb hosts face no such inspections. And host’s neighbors have to live next to an apartment with a neverending series of noisy visitors.
The story is also true for Uber. Uber is now arguing over whether its cars meet the safety and insurance requirements which are accepted by standard taxis. Also, if Uber and related services flood the market, they could harm all taxi drivers’ ine.
This downside of the sharing needs our consideration, but that doesn’t mean the current(当前的)tax and regulato ry structure is perfect.
32. What is the positive thing about the sharing economy?
A. It is a global trend.
B. It makes the most of spare resources.
C. It is beyond regulations and laws.
D. It brings in large amounts of profit.
33. What is the problem with Airbnb’s customers according to the passage?
A. They are closely inspected.
B. They are likely to steal from the hosts.
C. They have to pay heavy taxes.
D. They can be noisy to hosts’ neighbours.
34. What is the argument over Uber according to the passage?
A. Whether it lowers customers’ expenses.
B. Whether it provides fortable services.
C. Whether it protects customers’ safety.
D. Whether it can pete with standard taxis.
35. What is likely to be talked about in the following paragraphs?
A. The benefits of the sharing economy.
B. Necessary improvements of current laws.
C. Further development of Airbnb and Uber.
D. More downsides of Airbnb and Uber.

W: Hello, everyone. Wele to our program. Today, we are fortunate to have a special guest with us.
Some of you may have heard of him before. He’s an artist. His works have received many prizes and have been shown in over one hundred exhibitions across the country — Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, to name just a few. His name is Chris Cucksy. So Chris, tell us a bit about yourself.
M: Well, I was born in Springfield, Missouri, and grew up in Kansas. I didn’t e from a family with wealth or posit ion, but I did manage to get a master’s degree in fine arts.
W: When did you first start to make art? And what was the turning point in your life that made you an artist?
M: I always liked drawing as early as I can remember, so right from then, I knew what I was going to be: an artist.
W: What is it that always inspires you to create?
M: Nature is the biggest inspiration. I’m always inspired by things of beauty and harmony.

M: You must be pretty excited about your trip to Europe, Dorothy. When are you leaving?
W: In just two weeks, and I am excited. I’ve been looking forward to this training program for a long time. But there are still a few things I need to do before I go.
M: Like what?
W: Like renewing my passport and figuring out what to do wit h my apartment while I’m gone.
M: Y ou are not going to give it up, are you?
W: No way! I’ll never find another apartment like it around here. But I don’t like the idea of paying three months for an empty apartment, either. So, I’m looking for someone to take it while I’m away.
M: Um, let me think. Oh, I know just a person. An old colleague of mine, Jim Thomas. He is ing here to do some research this summer, from June to August.
W: Well, that’s exactly when I’ll be away!
M: Tell you what: I’ll be calling Jim late this week anyway, so I’ll mention it to him.
W: Well, thanks, Bill.

W: I hope I’ve given you a clear idea of the schedule for your London weekend. And, before I finish,
let me just give you some advice which should make your stay more enjoyable. Firstly, please do remember to put on some fortable shoes. London is a big place, and whatever you do, you’ll find yourself doing quite a lot of walking. So, fortable shoes are really necessary. And secondly, let me ask you to please look after your money. Keep it safe at all times, and then you will not have any unpleasant accident, which could ruin your whole weekend. You’ll find a copy of your weekend’s schedule in your room. Take a look at it, and make sure you’re clear about everything. Well, that’s all from me for now. Go and leave your luggage in your rooms. I’ll be seeing you here again in fifteen minutes. Goodbye for now!。
